Kendall McKenna is an author of M/M erotic romance novels featuring well-developed characters, complex stories, and realistic action sequences.

Kendall McKenna is the MLR Press 2013 Author of the Year. Her first work of fiction was written at the worldly age of nine, and was a transformative work that expanded on the story told in a popular song of the time.

She tried her hand at vampire and cowboy fiction, winning high school poetry and short story contests along the way. It wasn’t until she discovered the world of m/m erotic fiction and found her stride with cops, Marines and muscle cars, that she felt inspired to share her stories with readers who enjoy the same things.

Putting herself through college by working in a newly-created HIV testing clinic in her local Department of Health, introduced Kendall to the gay and lesbian community. Understanding and empathy has made her a lifetime advocate of GLBT issues.

A brief bout of unemployment gave Kendall the time and focus she needed to finally produce a novel worth submitting for publication. Her first novel, Brothers In Arms , introduced the world to her authentic military stories and characters. Kendall’s second novel, Strength of the Pack, was nominated for a 2013 Bookie Award, by Author’s After Dark.

Kendall was born and raised in Southern California, where she still lives and works. A non-conventional relationship has kept her happy for the last decade. Her four dogs enjoy it when she writes, as she sits still long enough for them to curl up around her.

Re-read August, 2024: There is no denying that this is my GOAT.

Re-read November, 2015: Thanksgiving comfort read. Fucking LOVE this book! READ IT people!

If I could give this book 6 stars, I most certainly would!

August 2013 edit: Even though it hasn't even been a month yet, I re-read this again this weekend. Loved it even more! The ending is what stuck out to me this time. It was so incredibly perfect. While I would gobble up a sequel if one were written, I don't think I'd be disappointed if one weren't. I'll sing it from the rooftops. This book is perfection.

The third book in Kendall McKenna's The Recon Diaries series tells MC Corey Yarwood's story. (The first two books in the series concentrated on Jonah and Kellan, so this could be read as a stand alone. Jonah and Kellan make appearances, but their roles are explained well enough where I believe you can easily follow the story. This book is, in my opinion, far superior to the other two.) Corey is suffering greatly with a nasty case of PTSD and self medicating with alcohol when he meets up-and-coming actor/musician MC Sean Chandler. Sean Chandler is the kind of guy straight woman and gay men everywhere fall asleep at night dreaming about. Kind, considerate, sexy, motivated, and he is all about getting to know Corey, PTSD baggage and all.

As the story progresses, we get into a whole lot of what has caused Corey's PTSD and while that was riveting and highly enjoyable, I kept turning the page hoping they would get back to his relationship with Sean. We really didn't learn a lot about Sean so I'm going to take that as a sign that Ms. McKenna is planning on giving us a sequel at some point. *please*

As far as the love story between our two heroes goes, this one could not have been more perfect. The emotion between these two men literally took my breath away. I actually stopped and re-read their first kiss three times because it was so powerful and emotional. The conversation they had before they made love for the first time? Made. Me. Cry. I kid you not. And I'm not one of those mushy, sappy book readers! Yeah, I like my M/M romance with emotion, but I also like my military men to get down and dirty and to fuck like animals! And these two did, While making me cry. I guess only Kendall McKenna can make me do that, because she made me do that in Strength of the Pack too.

The Final Line is on my fuck yeah, 5+ stars list and on my favorites list. I can recommend it to everyone. I absolutely LOVED this book. Read it and enjoy. It is perfection.

3.5 Stars!

I was looking for something different to read when I tried this one. I don't read a lot of military books. And unfortunately I found this one to be a bit too heavy on the military. Not quite enough romance.

But despite that, I did like the story-line and the main characters.

But it was too long though.

I really liked Sean's character and wish we had gotten his POV also. Corey wore me out a bit.

I appreciated that it was low on the angst and drama. There was enough steam to keep me satisfied. Overall an enjoyable read.

This was such an amazing story. I know I've said it before in my other reviews of the author's work but McKenna does an fabulous job with delivering an authentic military feel in her books and I love it, they're jargon heavy and we learn a lot about how the military works but it never feels like an infodrop. I really enjoy Kellan and Jonah from the previous two books but this is my favorite of the series so far.

Corey's PTSD and the unclear story about what happened to him and his men overseas really made this a very tense read. The development of his and Sean's relationship was so riveting and really tremendously hot that I just couldn't put it down. I liked how Sean reacted to Corey's symptoms and how Corey treated Sean's work.

Why this didn't reach 5 stars territory for me was because of Sean. I don't know if there's another book coming that will focus more on him but there was an unfinished quality to his backstory that left me with a lot of questions, specifically: . I'd love to see more of these guys with a story focusing on Sean's background to find out some answers.

This a great read though. Realistic stress reactions, a fantastic story progression and the chemistry between Sean and Corey is off the charts. Even though this is book three in a series it could be read as a standalone, Jonah and Kellan do have cameos here but the story introduces them in a way that they are definitely secondary to the main romance and never overshadow this book. Can't recommend this one enough.

Oh yes, plenty of hot kissing....

This is another terrific read from Kendall McKenna. I was looking forward to Corey Yarwood's book from snippets of a young corporal in Brothers in Arms through to the Staff Sergeant he is now, training new Recon Marines at Camp Pendleton.

This book is full of things I like -

Military men. Correct military jargon, when it is required.

Seeing snippets of Jonah and Kellen again, just the right amount - my love of them still holds strong.

A great plot - the death of a girlfriend at a Marine's hands and how it was intertwined with/tied up with an incident being investigated by J.A.S. as well as the civilian justice system.

Very well handled psychological aspects of the book, not just contrived generic material or quick fixes. Kudos to Ms McKenna, it was spot on - and I will pick the eye teeth out of this sort of thing if it isn't right.

No insta-love, although there is a strong insta-attraction. Who hasn't had that?

Corey and Sean - what a GREAT couple. Their relationship made this story. I had to get past something first but when I did I just felt the love leap out at me. Two wonderful characters who will stay with me.

A perfect sex to plot ratio. It had a build and when it happened it was red hot!!

While it is part of a series, it can be read as a stand alone book.

If you like other Kendall McKenna books such as Strength of the Pack. If you have enjoyed The Recon Diaries series, Brothers In Arms and Fire For Effect. If you have been yearning for some Corey Yarwood lovin' - then here it is. Full review at On Top Down Under Book Reviews - http://bookreviewsandtherapy.blogspot...

Ahhhh, a true emotional connection between two grown adults and no need for the author to fuck it up with unnecessary drama or ridiculous plot twists near the end. Thank god. And while everyone knows I love a man in uniform, the sexiest thing about this book was the communication between the MCs. I was also really turned on by the fact that while Corey didn't always want to ASK for help, he always tried to take that which was freely offered. No shame in that. Nope, none at all.

I missed the action sequences that Kellan and Jonah's books had (only because McKenna writes them so well, NOT because I felt like the book needed them), but this was still my favourite of the series.

There have already been many wonderful reviews for this story, and while I really don't like repeating the same thing as everyone else, it is very difficult not to.

I fell in love with Jonah and Kellan in the previous books, and while I was looking forward to seeing more of their story, this one did not disappoint in the least. In fact, it was even better than the first two books.

Once again, the military aspect is spot on. From the story line, to the characters, to the lingo - Kendall does it all and does it extremely well. Some times, the jargon can be confusing, but I find it almost a game to see if I can figure out some of the lesser knowns. To have any less of it would take away from the realness, in my opinion. The issues are all very real, and she has a way of making you feel as though you are right there in the story watching it unfold.

I enjoy that there is always a story beyond the romance in these books. Here, the investigation (headed by Kellan and Jonah) of potential dishonorable conduct in Afghanistan was very realistic, as were the issues of PTS, memory loss, etc. dealt with by the soldiers. This was the first time I read a PTS related story that had the side affect of ED, and I really liked how that all played out.

Corey and Sean - wow. Big, strong Corey tries so hard to deal with his PTS issues on his own so that he is able to function in his role as instructor. Thankfully, he had people like Jonah, and then Sean, among a few others, who pushed him to seek help. Sean was such an amazing, sweet guy. I loved how he dealt with, handled and helped Corey. These guys take it slow. Their kissing scenes were some of the hotteest I've read in a long time. They don't have sex until almost halfway through this story, and when they do, it is off-the charts hot. Even then, they have to work around Corey's issues.

When I picked up this book, I did not want to put it down. The only possible issue I could find was the repeat of a phrase here or there, and really, the rest is so darn good, it really didn't bother me. So, once again, if you love hot military guys, with an actual story and action going on, don't hesitate to pick up one of Kendall's books.

I was disappointed to hear this was the last of this series, as I really want more of these guys. However, I eagerly look forward to whatever Kendall is sending our way next.

Okay, I just have to start off by saying, I love this author. No joke. She is amazing with military stories.

Now that I have that out of the way I can start talking about this book. Where to start... It's the final in the series... Sad, I know. I'm almost in tears. I loved these characters and Corey just broke my heart here. I never expected to love this book as much as the other two, Kellan and Jonah are just hot and everything else I love in two guys.

But Corey and Sean were just so sweet and adorable and... hot! They were really smoking hot and even their first kiss had me swooning. It was a slow burner in some respect. But their relationship built over time and it was stronger because of it.

I loved the military talk. You kind of get used to it, because in the first book it lost me once or twice, but then I loved the story and I didn't care. It was a different story here because now I expect the military references. I started to enjoy it after a while and then it became a vital part of the story.

Ms. McKenna did an excellent job with the PTSD as well as Corey's other issues. He was realistic and believable without being unlikable. That can be very hard to do, especially when you read books with unlikable PTSD sufferers. His recovery was slow and gradual and he had help. Something that I really loved was he didn't have to recover on his own, he had Sean, Jonah and Kellan to help him.

Another great thing and I want to give Kendall a big hug for this is she had Kellan and Jonah in this. They were not forgotten, which is nice for fans of those two. Plus they helped with the story a lot. I loved seeing the smaller signs of their relationship in this book. It was subtle, but nice.

Unfortunately, this is the last book in the series. I am glad it ended on a high and love the author for giving us these wonderful characters. So, all I can say is I highly recommend this series to fans of MM military romances.

M/M Bingo
Round 8 - Week 5
"Want to Watch This on Screen"

********************

I put off reviewing this book for weeks now. I’m just struggling writing this. Conflicted. And I realize I'm in the minority here when it comes to this one...

The thing is, the subject matter of this book is important. It FEELS important. It has WEIGHT to it that is almost physical as you read this book. And honoring our military servicemen…heroes who come back with nightmares and flashbacks and who struggle through it…well, I can’t say anything to take away from that. So, to have a book deal with this, and in a real and honest way, I applaud the author.

However, as a reading experience, I felt the book lacked momentum and I really had a hard time getting through to the end. I skimmed a lot of it, to be honest. And it became a repetition of the same chapter over and over again.

The book started out strong – intriguing characters in Corey and Sean and an attraction between the two that had me interested and hooked right away. The romance was sweet and sexy and I really liked this pairing. The military storyline was suspenseful and I was engaged for most of it…as the truth is being revealed. And I did really like the writing…

But all in all, this could have done with maybe 5 less chapters, 20 less “why are you with me?”s, 30 less scenes with Sean fiddling on his guitar…and (I’ll minimize this rant as best I can) 100 less typos!!!!! (For a book in which I pay $8.99, I’d expect quality editing/proofing. I was FUMING by the end of the book because of this…and no, not just one or two…but HANDFULS!)

When I finished, I was actually a bit annoyed (maybe it was the typos, maybe it was the skimming, I don’t think it was the story). But, as I’ve waited and moved past the book, I can admit that it was a decent-enough read. I think I’m a fan of the writer but not a fan of the editor maybe. I’m wavering between 3 – 3.5 stars…ugh…but those typos…

I would say that this was one of the more angstier of McKenna's works. She continues to write what I assume to be a realistic portrayal of all things military, and she always does this well. Despite the story not being smack dab in the middle of a combat zone, she does touch on the ramifications of war on its soldiers and how they cope (or don't) with PTSD. Overall fans won't be disappointed with the palpable UST between the 2 MC's, and the frequent smex is of course, good. This was another win in my book.

WOW!! 10 FUCKIN STARS!! McKenna has done it again. O' how I love a gay man in uniform. I was hooked on Staff Sergeant from the first chapter. His strength, honesty, and loyalty were unlike any character I've read. And damn the sex was freakin hot. I however, loved that the story had a strong plot and story line. The book wasn't just about a M/M relationship, it was about Corey's career and his honor as a Marine. Sean was just a godsend, I mean have you ever read a more caring and patient man.... yeah well...I haven't. Even though I did not read the previous two installments of this series. I didn't feel like I missed pertinent information to this beautiful story. Masterfully done Kendall.

'The Final Line', book three in Kendall McKenna's Recon Diaries series, is an amazing and awe-inspiring book of courage, honesty, honor, fear, hope, rage, commitment, loyalty, and love. Above all, love.

I fell for Corey Yarwood when he was first introduced in prior books. I couldn't help it and I didn't want to - he tugged at my heartstrings from the moment he walked onto the pages. Now he has his own story told from his point of view and what a point of view it is. Corey is struggling, trying to deal with memories from his last deployment, nightmares he has practically every night waking himself up screaming. He's trying to self-medicate with alcohol and that's not really working very well for him. He meets Sean Chandler one night and their attraction is unmistakable. Sean is an actor/singer/songwriter/model with a gentle, healing soul that Corey so desperately needs. And Corey gives Sean what he needs - someone who isn't fixated on Sean's looks above all else. These guys are incredibly hot together, but besides that, it's a miraculous journey watching them fall in love, watching them be what the other needs so badly, and doing it with honesty and grace.

Amidst all of this is the DOD's investigation (enter Jonah and Kellen) into an incident that occurred in Afghanistan on Corey's last deployment. Someone is covering something up and DOD is trying to get to the bottom of it. Unfortunately, Corey is right in the middle as much of his PTS is derived from this incident. Add to that, a member of Corey's former platoon beating his girlfriend to death and trying to shift his responsibility onto the Corps and the Afghani incident and you can understand why Corey is stressed out beyond belief. Luckily, Corey listens to Jonah and Sean and begins counseling and medication to help him deal with the trauma he has suffered.

'The Final Line' is different from the prior two books in the series, but in NO WAY does that detract from the powerful emotions this story brought about in me. This story deals with the horrible reality of war - not just physical injuries, but the almost more devastating mental and emotional scars that are incurred. The author writes this in an empathetic, compassionate, but very stark manner which brings the beauty of the human spirit to the forefront. In case you can't tell from what I've written, I loved this book. I loved Corey. I loved Sean. When I was done reading, I wanted more, more of the guys, and more of this world the author has created. These books are on my re-read pile for a reason. Don't miss out on it!

Staff Sergeant Corey Yarwood has been battling PTSD by self-medicating with alcohol. Both his PTSD and drinking are getting out of hand, and affecting his work as a military instructor. His PTSD, which came about due to a disastrous deployment, begins worsening when his deployment becomes the focus of two separate investigations.

Corey meets Sean Chandler, an up-and-coming actor and musician, at a bar one night. Sean is everything that Corey looks for, but Corey doesn't want to get into a relationship with his issues. But Sean won't back down, and he's more than willing to provide the patience and strength that Corey needs to become healthy and whole again.

I read Brothers In Arms a while back, and wasn't impressed at all. I'm glad I still decided to continue on to 'The Final Line', because this book was a treat. If you want to skip the preceding two books in the series, book 3 works fine as a standalone.

I would say that this book is more focused on Corey and his recovery than it is on the romance. Kendall McKenna did an excellent portraying what PTSD is actually like, and how it can effect someone psychologically, physically, and emotionally. Kudos to the author for highlighting that PTSD does not, in and of itself, make people extremely violent. I've read way too many books where violence is excused due to PTSD.

Corey's recovery is painful to read, but the payoff is worth it. It was also interesting to see how Corey's recovery was closely linked to resolving the investigations into his deployment.

The romance isn't at all lacking, even if it played second fiddle at times. Corey and Sean have an instant connection, and they build on it. The two realize that making a relationship work means to give and take, and they actually communicate. The two were sweet and fit together perfectly. I really enjoyed reading how Sean's determined support gave Corey hope for a future together.

Also, Corey and Sean were very steamy in the bedroom. That's always a plus.

If you're looking for an MM romance that's slow-paced and focuses on the emotional connection between the MCs, then I would recommend 'The Final Line.'

It takes every ounce of Marine discipline for Corey Yarwood to make it through a day. And the only sleep he gets is found at the bottom of a bottle of Jack Daniels. Living with PTSD is bad enough, but not remembering is even worse. Not to mention that one of his old unit brothers wants to pull Corey into his drama. Now is so not the time to fall in love. Good thing Sean didn’t get that memo.BrothersinArmsw-series250

*squee* I have waited 15 months to find out whatever happened to Yarwood. And man was it worth the wait. Now, don’t get me wrong I LOVED Jonah and Kellan in Brothers at Arms, but there was just something about Corey that spoke to me. He was just this dumb kid, but my mama heart just wanted him to be safe and happy. Watching Kendall break in him down and then allowing Sean to help him put the pieces back together kept me glued to my Kindle for two days. I LOVED THIS STORY!!!

The Final Line is by far, my favorite book of the year. It plays like an action adventure movie. And just like Brothers in Arms, the romance takes a backseat to a very well plotted mystery. The men react like men and the steamy stuff is thrown in all the right places. The medical details of Corey’s struggle with PTSD are spot on, as were Sean’s reactions. The secondary players were great, and I must admit, I wished Kendall wrote Het fiction so she could tell another couple of brothers’ tales. Bottom line, The Final Line had it all, romance, action, suspense and authenticity. I highly recommend this title.

And just in case you are one those readers that jumps right to chapter one, I thought I’d include the important parts of The Final Line’s dedication page. ;-)

First and foremost, for Portia de Moncur, who wrote the first

ever review of Brothers In Arms. She also holds the dubious honor

of being the first to demand Corey Yarwood be given his own

story. Her encouragement is why Jonah, Kellan and Corey live in

more stories.

(Kendall, I’ll be looking for my autographed print copy in the mail. I am beyond honored that you listen to the pleadings of little ole me. ;-) )

4.5 stars. This is one of those military books I can happily reread. The struggles Corey deals with are heavy but it never feels overdone. Sean is such a calming and steady influence for him when anxiety and stress are weighing Corey down and the shit hits the fan. I only wish there was an epilogue.

I loved it. I loved the differences between Sean and Corey, both big and little, I loved Corey's honesty, I loved Sean's patience, I loved coreys humility and i loved Seans caring, I loved the way they met, I loved the way they both dealt with Corey's PTS, I loved the sex scenes, I loved how they fell in love, I loved how Sean stood up to Jonah, I loved how Jonah and Kellan were protective of Corey, I loved Corey's core of honour and loyalty, I loved the courage that they both had to face the things they had to no matter the consequences (I wish I had that kind of courage sometimes), I loved the way Corey supported and encouraged Sean and the way Sean called bullshit on Corey when it was needed. I loved Sean and I loved Corey.

The only thing I hated was on page 365 (according to my reader) - it is 364 page book.

Just in case you didn't catch it or I was being too subtle, I just loved it.

Well, my first book from this author and I'm not sure what to think: I liked it but didn't love it. Also the love scenes didn't work for me so I ended up skipping most of them. Most of the book was a flat line for me, without any ups or downs and considering heroes with PTSD are amongst my favorites, I expected something more. Still, I did come to care for the main MC and my emotional investment is the reasons this gets a higher rating than just "OK".

This books release day is today, July 4, Americas Independance Day and fittingly this story is all about a man who has contributed above an beyond to the freedom that we all enjoy, and about the very personal price some of our soldiers pay. This is the third in the Recon Diaries series and I mention that straight up because even though I have read the other two, and they do introduce Corey briefly, you can read this as a stand alone book and receive the full enjoyment and impact that The Final Line promises and delivers.
This is Corey Yarwood's story make no bones about that, he is a Recon Marine, strong, loyal, proud, confident and honorable. Kendall McKenna writes from a singular POV which is very refreshing and gives an intimate insight into the main character that is not often available in other books. She, and by extension the reader, really get to know Corey on a level that I think Corey would be supremely uncomfortable with. She also tackles PTS and the effects that it can have, especially when it is untreated or unrecognized. She is brutally honest in her portrayal, not shying away from symptoms that might cause some romance writers to shudder at their keyboards, she and her characters handle it with the love and compassion. Her treatment can lead by example, the realisation that PTS is not a choice and seeking help should never be considered weak and should not stigmatize anyone suffering fom it.
Corey is in a dark place when we are introduced to Sean Chandler, a singer/songwriter/actor/model, and whilst we only find out as much as Corey gets to know about his back story, we can infer a lot due to his reactions and love him for how he steps up and into Corey's life. Sean has his own issues as we all have, but he gets that his baggage does not necessarily fit onto Corey's shoulders and once he realises this he is better able to appreciate where Corey is coming from.

In showing an insight and compassion for these wounded warriors and the people that love them, Kendall composes a beautiful, well-written, romantic love story that I am going to get many rereads out of. I felt like I went through an emotional rollercoaster, and waiting for events to unfold or the other shoe to drop was nerve-wracking, and that level of tension gave me an understanding of what Corey was going through and made his relationship with Sean that much more poignant and beautiful.

The sex was hot, and handled with a sexiness, eroticism, and emotion that Kendall is so good at. For the romantic at heart which I must confess I am, had my heart cut loose from its mooring, trying to fly out of my chest with joy and fear, and sadness and anger and the whole gamut of emotions. And at the end I did not want to let these men go, I still want to find out more about both of them. And ultimately, that feeling for me is the ultimate test of how good a book is. You have to immerse yourself in the Recon Diaries world because ultimately we all want to know or be these men, in some way, shape or form.

What an amazing book with such an accurate depiction of the military environment and such a well-plotted story, I'm in awe. The characters are so authentic and I loved Corey’s and Sean’s immediate attraction to each other, and Corey’s honesty, and Sean’s patience. The characters both seized my heart right from the start. I think the author did an incredible job at portraying the physical and emotional connection between them. I loved reading every page of it.

And their sex? So f*cking hot. (I totally have a new found love for ... dog tags)

Definitely a book I will reread!

Wow. My heart is still in my throat. So much amazingness about this book: the mystery was complexed, slowly, tantalizingly pieced together, and it always retained a strong humanistic, personal edge; the delivery compelled me to keep reading and then powed me in the gut! And the characters! The main character struggled through searing emotional trauma, and his growth and self-awareness was realistic as was his developing affection for the other main character. Both men were fully-dimensional, mature men. Sean was a tad too perfect, too together--it would have improved the emotional balance, the equality, if Corey could have assisted him with some personal struggle as well. I completely understood Corey's insecurity regarding the relationship, and I think it was still somewhat unresolved.

The sexual tension was sizzling. Special mention for dealing sensitively (and erotically!) with erectile dysfunction.

I admire the amount of research the author put into this book, too--all the military jargon and procedures! I don't know if it was accurate but it was sure specific (without being boring to someone such as me who is not interested in military themes at all). The editing was fantastic as well; the only time I cocked an eyebrow was when I did a count check and saw the verb-adverb phrase "sighed explosively" was used ten times.

I haven't read any other books in this series, so this was a solid stand alone. Loved my trip into this world.

Very likable characters here and a relationship driven story. The sex is really hot, they get in some nice clenches and kiss thru it all.
I would have liked to see a bit more action and better continuity. Sean starts out singing in a bar rescuing a girl, then he's an actor and the bar and girl are never mentioned again. He's sort of preachy and drama queen, but he's hot so it's ok. We never find out why sean is insecure 'just don't let go' what are his issues? Guys who want him as arm candy?
Corey is awesome, but insecure and vulnerable. He whines about conditions and sweating, muscles aching, dreading an exercise. Suck it up soldier.
The charm of this book is liking these quirky flawed characters and just cuddling Corey and kiss it all better.

I enjoyed reading this one. Not too much angst and too cheesy either. Both heros were really likeable. There was a lot of army stuff going on and I got confused about all the departments and who was who every now and then, I didn't ruin the story for me, but it did fuck with my reading a bit. I had to go back and reread the lines, to understand. Maybe it helps when you read the first books of this series, which I didn't. Maybe it was just me being an idiot, who knows.

Anyway...I liked the storyline, the characters were really nice and there was some nice steam. So a succesvol read for me. 4 stars.

I did feel sorry for Corey and his *issue*

Just awesome. I loved this book. Very rarely do I read a #3 that is better than the first two. Do not get me wrong I loved the first two as well. This was a great story that felt real and the love story felt complete. A truly solid HEA.

Rating: 5 stars out of 5

One of the finest books I have read in years. Timely and compelling, a true portrait study of a Marine dealing with PTS and his recovery.

Wonderful!

Fantastic story. I have enjoyed the whole series so far, but this was my favorite. It was well researched and it taught me a lot. The supporting characters were fleshed out and I hope they continue in future books. Corey and Sean deserve their happiness.

Well, at least it was better than the previous two.
I liked it. I didn't love it, but that was not because the story was bad, just some things were not to my liking.

The blurb kind of says it all. Boy meets boy, they slowly fall in love, boy nr 1 has PTSD from his time in Afghanistan, boy nr 2 does not mind, they have sex, they declare their love and live happily ever after.
Okay.. it is a little bit more than that and overall I really did like it.
But some bits were a bit boring... Corey en Sean were cute together tough. And the way the author described the military and marine stuff felt really authentic. I don't know if that was the case, but it felt real to me.

I did have one issue with the story. I am fine when a book reflects real life (a little), but I do not want to read about erectile dysfunction in my books. I really felt for Corey and everything he has been through, but the way his problem was handled in this book felt a bit off. I know they solved it with little blue pills, but still, it was weird. Especially after Corey took a viagra and then says to Sean:

"Feel that?” he asked, smiling wickedly down at Sean. “That’s for you. All for you.”

No it's not, you just took a viagra, dude!

Overall a nice read, but I won't read it again.

I have to admit that I've done something I don't normally do, read this story without reading the previous books in the series, mostly because of the blurb and the rating. I can also admit that this book already had a star going for it as I loaded it on my Kindle just because of the author and a war/military theme. How I love my military guys!

I was not disappointed with the depth of both the story and the characters. Corey was an easy character to respect and love, making me hurt with him as he battled PTSD and nightmares about an event he cannot recall and is now the center of a military investigation. When he met Sean at a local bar where he was the entertainment for the night, Corey is also battling his need for alcohol to be able to sleep. Sean literally becomes his salvation and following their growing relationship was such a joy to watch. Sean is one of those talented people we can all admire as he pursues a career in film and music. But his empathy and support for Cory's struggles is what really makes him a star for me.

Run, don't walk to pick up this book - you won't be disappointed!
