Molly has developed even more amazing powers in the sixth and final hypnotic installment of the New York Times bestselling Molly Moon series—perfect for fans of Lemony Snicket and Pseudonymous Bosch!
Molly Moon can hypnotize or morph into anyone she chooses, travel through time, read minds—and now, thanks to a mysterious and magical coin, she can play EVERY instrument. The harmonica! The guitar! The drums! The piano! You name it. But will Molly be able to free herself from the coin's powers to save her friends—and herself?
In the fun-filled sixth and final book of the Molly Moon series, Molly must face the music—the hypnotic music—of a magical coin that has the power to turn its owners into monsters!
Lady Georgia Mary Caroline Byng, (b. 1965), is a British author of children's books and a former actress. Her first writing was for a comic strip, and her first published book was The Sock Monsters. Byng's best known work is Molly Moon's Incredible Book of Hypnotism and its sequels, about a girl who finds a book about hypnotism and learns how to hypnotize people. Georgia's first published item was a comic strip for kids from the age of five to seven.
This is the most awful, betraying, butchered end to a series that I have ever read.
Fun, interesting protagonist? TRANSFORMED INTO BRATTY PLOT ELEMENT. Hypnotism? PASSED UP FOR OTHER RANDOM MIND TRICKS Excellent plot with interesting bad guy? NO MORE. JUST NO MORE. Keeping the feeling of the series alive? NO. THE MOST PERSONAL THING WE GET OUT OF THIS BOOK IS SOME PROTESTING ABOUT HUNTING WHALES. Possibility for the series to go on? ABSOLUTELY, 100% NO CHANCE. BYNG LITERALLY NOSEDIVED THIS SERIES INTO THE GROUND ON PURPOSE WITH NO CHANCE OF A FIX UP.
That said, I'd like to point out that every single book that came before this was excellently crafted, funny, witty, smart, and with great characters. I don't understand why this book was so unspeakably horrible- did Byng not want to write another one? Was this some effort of the publisher to discontinue something? What...? I don't understand at all.
What I DO get, though, is that no only does this garbage/terrible excuse for a series wrap-up make the rest of the series look terrible but it also was done in a way that flat out showed readers that this was the end. Stranding the story on a desert island with no hope of escape. And no, that's not to be taken literally.
I loved this series. It hurts me how much this book ruined everything.
I seriously DID NOT LIKE the ending. I cried. How will Mickey get back to the future to vist his foster-family and friends?! How will Molly ever open her Hypnotic Hospital to cure patients of their fears?! How will she ever live?! We all know Molly can't live without her hypnotic powers. Sooner or later, she will ache for them. Even though this is the last book, I expect there should be one last story to officially end it. Leaving Molly stripped of her powers is not how should be ended.
This is a bad ending to the series, and I regret that it interferes with the whole " afterward" of molly moon. no detail, no solid plot. of course there's a coin that makes her evil, and she can play anything. the book also states that she lost her powers. it doesn't explain any of this. there is no sister-brother build-up to bond or whatever, and all of the characters seem flat. one star for the book being created as a final thought for Molly Moon. I also will give it a pity star, just for HAVING READ IT. I DIDNT ENJOY IT AT ALL. the only part that seems even related to the other books is when DR. logan, her great-great- great grandfather shows up and he starts explaining things. it give no solid description of how and when he dies either. only stating it was by choice. wow. just wow. I do not recommend it.
As upsetting as the ending - and Molly's attitude for most - of this book was to everyone, including me, I can't hate it. For the most part, yeah it was a stab to the heart, but not completely. Spoiler to those who haven't read this yet, her ancestors told her it may take time for her powers to come back. Her hopes for a hypnotic hospital may seem bleak but not impossible. Micky still has the ability (once he relearns it all) and Rocky still has voice hypnosis. For now, my theory is that it can still give way to another book where Molly is trying to just be a kid again. This time would not be like with Hardwick House, but with family who love her. It'll teach her to be normal for a while and to actually pay attention to her parents rather than the little bit we've seen of them where she doesn't want the relationship to be completely parents and child yet. I have hope for another book - maybe not soon but - set when she's a little bit older and gets thrown into the world of hypnotism once more. I don't yet see an end to this wonderful series.
Molly Moon can hypnotize or morph into anyone. Thanks to a coin she found in Japan she can play every instrument. But will she be able to withstand the power of the coin? Find out in this book by Georgia Byng recommended for anyone in search of a good read.
This was so incredibly disappointing as the finale to such a fun series. Throughout the Molly Moon books, her magical powers have been the least compelling thing. What really makes the books stand out is Molly’s commitment to being kind and the love she and her friends and family have for one another. This installment definitely still had a little bit of that, especially toward the end of the book, but for the majority of it, everything that makes this series endearing was completely gone. The whole coin thing made no sense and was just frustrating to read about. I am all in for my girl Petula, so Molly being mean to her kind of ruined the book. One thing I do appreciate is this at least being semi-connected to the prior book, even if I wish it had a completely different plot. Also, Molly losing her powers was just disappointing, and for this being the series conclusion, I really missed seeing the sweet interactions between Molly and everyone (Rocky, Petula, Micky, her parents, more of the orphanage children, etc.). Some of the backstory we got about Dr. Logan was interesting—if a bit random—and I adored the last chapter or so of the book, but it was still just generally missing so much of the spark of the books. This could’ve had potential in an alternate universe, but it was just way too out of character and far too many random new magical things were thrown in here while simultaneously disregarding everything else that had been built up to until this point. Also, I can’t believe I forgot this until now, but the whole anti-whaling / fishing plot was so very random. After the past few books, it’s clear that Georgia Byng cares a lot about the environment and animals which is great, but why was the villain both a music producer and overseeing a whaling company that traps children for days on end if they interrupt whaling at all?? So random and not well integrated into the rest of the story.
The first time I read this book, I had not read any of the other Molly Moon books. DON'T do that. DO read Molly Moon books. Start with Molly Moon's Incredible Book of Hypnotism, then try this one. When I first read it, I enjoyed it, but it just wasn't as good as it could be. Now, rereading it, I realized how good it really was. This is the kind of book that you can read over and over and never get tired of. Molly has a special coin which makes her a brilliant musician. Now what kind of author would have thought of that? Georgia Byng, of course. With all her books my expectations are extremely high, having read her Molly Moon books, and the books I pick up greatly exceed my expectations. I love, love, love them! I also really like her style of writing; that might be a problem for some people, though. But way more important than the style of writing is the plot, and I love her plots too. For a book about hypnotism, and in this one, magic coins, the plots are strangely believable and the characters are just amazing! I love the way she weaves different characters into her stories like it's easy as pie. At times her books can be a bit confusing, but other than that, her books are THE BEST! I recommend this book to everyone, although children will probably enjoy it the most.
I love Molly Moon honestly, but I don't want Georgia Byng to drag it out forever, when authors do that the series lose their value, at least in my opinion. And Molly Moon is a super human because she can read minds, hypnotize people, time travel, shapeshift, and now she can play any instrument. And turn people into monsters..what's next she gonna start flying?
Update: This is the last one in the series, okay, I'm cool with that. 6 books are okay :)
This book was a rather disappointing end to my beloved childhood series! First off, Molly was mean mean MEAN! And I understand it was the coin making her merciless, but still! She what's always been one of my favorite heroines but in this book she was so cruel! The other frustrating part was the end. HOW CAN MOLLY LOSE ALL OF HER POWERS? I UNDERSTAND IT IS FOR THE GREATER GOOD BUT NO, JUST NO!
This was a little disappointing. Maybe these books are for a younger set than I remember. Seemed like there wasn't very much action, and just a lot of selfishness going on.
This book is a bad ending to the series. Super fluorine uranium chlorine potassium iodine nitrogen G. I mean, is the book implying that you should never work too hard or the result is ... NOTHING? I'm saying that this book is so bad that if it weren't for this book, then the Molly Moon series probably would be my favorite series. Things that I didn't like: 1. Molly's gonna be in BIG trouble after her parents find out that she hypnotized her brother and even more trouble when they figure out that she has none of her powers left. 2. Boycotting whale hunting while there is a WAAAY bigger problem that's happening? Does her friends even know she lost all her powers? 3. Her grandfather died and now she is left with a gift that she has NO idea how to use (well some idea, but not much). 4. That single coin can solve EVERY problem?! And Molly had nothing that helped make the second coin. Usually it's Molly's powers that solve the problem. In this book? Her grandfather and a distant relative do pretty much ALL the work. On the other hand, Molly just follows her grandfather's steps. Besides, when did the previous owner play an instrument? If I could, I would rate it negative 2 or 3 stars. Georgia Byng should write another number six book, in which Molly does much of the problem solving.
This book was completely unecessary in terms of the series, it wrapped up in a way that felt a little too lazy and like the author didn't want to go back to it. Molly losing her powers over the coins obviously enables her a normal childhood, and now there's no need for anymore books! That's basically what happened Although the setting could be interesting, everything just felt too lazy and weird. And OK, this was published in 2013 and we weren't all 'woke' then, but what is the NEED for every single Japanese character to have an accent? wtf. Molly going all weird and evil was really strange too and like it didn't accomplish anything except give her a "lesson". The only thing I found remotely interesting about the book was Dr Logan showing up and his time travel to the past to meet the hypnotist ancestor. That was a pretty good twist. But outside that, it's kind of a terrible ending for a good series.
I think the series should have ended with the fifth book. This one wasn't needed, and I felt the writing reflected the author grasping for another power, more characters, and another adventure. It didn't pull me along like the others. The best part of this one was Molly meeting her ancestors who also had strong hypnotic powers, and the worst part was not getting our favorite strong, caring Molly Moon and her amazing bond with Petula and Rocky throughout.

Molly Moon and the Monster Music is an .amazing book filled with fun and excitement. Recommended for children of ages 8+ Yay! I am Jen's daughter and am totally into reading follow my mom at Mountainmidwife@fastmail.fm!
This book reads like the author went on a trip to Japan and then tried to cram as much Japan in the book as they possibly could. The series is worn out. If it wern't for my love of Molly Moon I wouldn't have finished this book. I think the series could have comfortably ended after book 4.
My favourite childhood book series... what the fck did you do to it, Georgia? In my opinion, the original trilogy are all five stars, the mickey minus is a four, morphing is a three, but THIS? I wish it had never existed
I chose this book from the library as I am currently writing a middle grade novel and wanted to see what children's books are like these days and this one of a hypnotizing, mind-reading, space-travelling, music-playing young heroine sounded like fun. Besides, the cover art of a cute pug dog looked appealing and Georgia Byng is a New York Times bestselling author. Despite, looking forward to it, I was disappointed right from the beginning. Maybe it would have helped if I had read the first of her books, but I found many problems with it. The long list of characters listed at the beginning of the story in a diary felt overwhelming and contrived. It would have helped, myself at least, if they were introduced as they appeared. Then the point of views kept changing, which only added to the confusion. The plot involved Molly being "taken over" by a mysterious coin which resembled a precious ring from a more intriguing children's book. I felt bored but persevered to the end wondering if the story would take off at some point. One thing I gained from this novel was a certain level of confidence that if she can do it...
It has been a while since I read a Molly Moon book. I was happy that Petula was on the cover and was excited to read about the adventure that Molly Moon got herself into. This story involved Molly and her friend Gerry knowing a Japanese boy band named, Zagger. Their manager Mr Proila is a very nasty person that hates music, but loves the money the band generates.
Molly has a nasty personality that is attributed to this gold coin that she possesses. Petula smells this thin, sour lemon odor every time Molly responds mean and selfish. She holds the coin and she plays a harmonica and electric guitar like no ones business. She wants fame and fortune and gets paranoid that someone will steal her gold coin away from her.
I didn't care for the meanness and the whale hunting and cock fighting that was part of the story. The latter 1/3 of the book was much better than the first 2/3.
Easily my favorite GOOD characters of the series were in this book. Even BETTER, I was surprised with an ending I really liked. BEST in my real world, the kid who made me read these books gave me a long appreciative hug when we finished. Great reward for all the exhausting and dangerous adventures we've been on together for this series of six books. The nonstop begging for just another chapter...and another...and another is going to linger in my head. He probably hypnotized me to do it all in the first place.
