These stories could have been good but all I can say is this...AN EDITOR IS YOUR FRIEND...and if you actually had an editor for these books you need to fire their ass like yesterday!!!
I read four of the five tales but could not stomach reading the last one. The stories are passable, all involving a virgin and a very rich and/or powerful man, usually about 10 years older than the heroine. There is usually some sad issue afflicting the heroine and indeed the hero but the redemptive power of love prevails just in time before the book ends. Heaven bless repetitious stories as I did not have to pay close attention all the time but still managed to follow the narrative no matter which title I was reading.
These stories are not meant to be funny but the endless parade of misused words ( "depreciatively" for "deprecatingly", "an institution of hiring learning"), an inability to use tenses correctly ("had went" for "had gone"), many, many typos and calling her characters by the wrong name, led to much hilarity in my household. My partner at one point suggested she learned to write in another language as she clearly could not write in English.
It is lazy writing to inflict such careless work on a reader, especially a paying reader, as bad as a poorly finished garment. A spellchecker is a basic requirement but is only useful if the writer wants to get it right. In Michelle Hughes' case, she needs a copy editor to turn these pigs' ears into something approximating good writing. As it is, others have commented previously on her poor writing but she clearly does not care enough to take any pride in her work and have some consideration towards her readers.
I am really enjoying the stories but I am FRUSTRATED at the editing! It's one thing to have grammatical errors or misspellings here and there but they are everywhere and there are multiple places in multiple stories that have name mix ups. There were more than a few times I re-read a paragraph to make sure I was following correctly. I am giving 3.5 stars because of the editing.
The good? At .99, it was worth the read. Ms. Hughes does a great job developing the characters and the story lines while predictable, were good.
The bad? Someone needs to find Ms. Hughes an editor and a very good thesaurus! It was almost irritating reading "Jessie girl" and "make haste" over and over and over again. The phrasing, misuse of words, and punctuation errors made me cringe. I found myself flipping back and forth making sure I didn't miss something to make the plot make sense.
For 99., it's a decent read if you can hang in and ignore the goof ups...
I think this is my first written one star review. Based on my personal rating system, I really can't give it a full star. The story concepts had promise. When the reader gets to the steamy sex scenes, the author knows how to turn up the heat. That wasn't the problem. Not the story type or genre. Here were the three problems I couldn't get past in order to recommend:
1) Needs an editor. There would be sentences where the sentence starts with a quote (") for person speaking and then no end quote. I am by no means the grammar police. But this was a consistent error that drove me nuts. There are other paragraphs where two characters are speaking but then the one character calls them by another character who isn't present. Example: When speaking to Cayce, Dylan calls her Cait (her twin not present).
2) Every single female lead character had some sort of sexual history that was bad, and had fear overcoming it. I don't mind this storyline. But all five books, I felt like the female lead was just renamed. There was nothing unique that set each one of them really apart for me.
3) Alternating POV every other paragraph. Again, I am okay with alternating POVs. At chapter breaks or break within the chapter. This was the problem that I had that made me struggle with completing the read. Example: First paragraph, it's Angela POV, next it's Nolan's, then Rachel the BFF, then next one we are in the Lead Singers head. I felt like I was at a tennis match and had no idea where to follow the ball. The reading became exhausting. Thus why it took me so long to finish.
I really don't like to write negative reviews and this one I almost just didn't because I couldn't be positive. But, if someone follows my shelves, I wanted to make sure they know how I felt about the book. There are others who may love this series (it's a steal for 833 pages at 99 cents on Amazon), but I can't in good conscience recommend.
Book 1 "Sin" Never in a million years would I have guessed this to happen. This book is simply amazing. There is drama, sex, lust, romance, and love all wrapped into one neat little package. What a great romance novel! Titillating!!!!
Book 2 "Romance Book Club"
What a romantic story! The passion alone is to die for. The world of BDSM lightly explained for the curious beginner. Provides a provocative tale of, passion, lust, desire, trust, and love.
Book 3 "Scarlett's Temptation"
Truly mesmerizing! Fun, fun , fun!!!! Dungeon play with a full test of one's will. Heart pumping, racing, palpitating scenes to make one dream to scram their safe word. Talking about pushing and testing one's limits. Excellent play time fun!!!!
Book 4 "Angela's Salvation"
Angela is a beautiful soul trapped in a traumatized mind and body. When confronted with her savior she is at a loss for words. She is given the change at a lifetime dream at the cost of her reputation. Can she found peace, love, and happiness from her "Savior"? The passion that is unleashed is just as traumatic as her past.
Book 5 "Undercover Submissive"
A short steamy romance about an innocent losing her virginity to the nations most eligible bachelor. The only issue is he thinks, initially, she is someone else. When he find out, he has a woman he doesn't want to let go. For him, it's a struggle, he's never "kept" anyone. Yet she has touched his heart deeply. Their lives are mixed in the hopes of rescuing her sister. But in the end, their hearts will need rescuing.
Some were great, some not so much, but there is something for everyone.
Even though this collection has a central theme, it is all over the place. Sometimes I felt the writing was great, sometimes I had to force myself to continue reading. Some of the characters were great, and some were atrocious. At $0.99 though it was a good buy. You may not love all five of them but the couple that are gems make the purchase worth while.
Out of the five stories, I only liked book 1 Sin. The rest for me are just crap. Or maybe I'm just not really into pure BDSM with only like one page worth of love story angle to it. This is like reading BDSM 101 with no story. I most specially hate the 3rd book I forgot counting how many times I called names for both the lead characters. I just hated it.
I really liked the first book and whilst the next 2 books were not bad, they went a little downhill as the series progressed as far as plot development goes. I felt the endings started to get a little rushed. Also too many name mixups throughout the book made it a little frustrating. Book 1 Sin would be a 4.5 star rating but by the last book I was down to 2 stars.
This series does than enough to introduce the reader to a great author by show casing several well developed stories with characters facing that will introduce to this world of BDSM while also letting you know how that alternate lifestyle is lived those who live it or in how those who enter come from differing backgrounds and find the hidden pleasure they have been missing in their lives while finding that one person who is the other half of their soul.
Loved all the couples. The men were totally alpha, the women were, in most cases, in distress, they were also strong, in their own way. I think anyone will enjoy reading these stories.
I couldn't put it down. Rhett, albeit was handsome and sexy as hell. Cayce touched my inner submissive soul. To want, to need, to beg to feel anything that was so deeply hidden behind fear and self doubt.
Sinful delights should be called Sinful writing. I suggest that the author download Grammarly, and fire her proofreader, not that it would help how predictable her characters are.
The stories in this book are decent, but the lack of proper grammar, punctuation, and word usage really ruins it for me. In one of the stories, it appears that the author decided to change the character's name from Leigh to Scarlett, but didn't replace all the occurrences of "Leigh" with "Scarlett." There are also several other occurrences in that story where she calls the main character by her friend's name, making some of the lines confusing. Luckily, that's the only one that has this problem. In all the stories she uses the possessive "submissive's" instead of the correct plural form "submissives." There are several occurrences of misplaced or incorrect punctuation, honestly more than I can count. There are also a few (very few, maybe two or three) instances where the author uses the incorrect word. The correct word is similar, but has a completely different meaning. If not for the complete lack of proper editing, I'd probably give it a 4-star review. I would venture to say that a good 80+% of the pages have some sort of error. I realize the book was extremely cheap and that's why I'm not contacting Amazon and demanding my money back. That isn't, however, an excuse for the author to give less than her best to her readers. I read the excerpt from her new book. It seems like it might be good, but I'm leery about purchasing it because of this book. Also, the book refers to the main male character as a succubus, however that is the name for a female demon/creature. A male is called an incubus. Just throwing that in there.
These 5 stories in this set are quite steamy and they give a completely different outlook on BDSM. I wasn't crazy about how the "slaves" were spoken to, but I kept an open mind. As for the edits of these books, I'm not sure who had that responsibility or if the wrong copies were uploaded, but the errors were ones that should've not been overlooked (wrong names referenced and incorrect word usage along punctuation). I'm not one to normally point this out, but when it takes away from what you're reading it makes it difficult to follow. I would've given more stars had the editing mistakes not been there.
Firstly get a different editor. Mixed up names, repeat paragraphs, wrong words. Drove me crazy. But what really got me was what this authors idea of who a dominant is. I will say by the last story she had it right. But in story 2 &3 &4 her subs were acting like women with battered wife syndrome . I think the author needs to learn a lot more about BDSM relationships. So 1&5 are okay...2,3,4 start out good but go so wrong.
I thoroughly enjoyed the collection. They stories were quite different although a common theme in each. The characters were believable and I was impressed with the alpha male dominate with a good heart. The only reason I did not give 5 stars was because of numerous grammatical errors but with corrections I would change that to 5 stars immediately. I look forward to reading more from the author.
This is a compilation of stories starting with sin which I loved! The next 2 were good and the last two I started to read but detested. I guess I can deal with misfortune in characters life but the last story made me not even want to read it. The tv show story was just annoying since I am not a fan oft that type of tv either.
I can easily state that the style of writing is captivating. Although I expected raw sex the stories went beyond action and made me "feel" for the characters and were not truly short stories. yeah!!!
I hope everyone agrees to read the book and finds pleasure also.
You would think that if books were put out for others to read that someone should be able to proofread them before the are published. I enjoyed the plots but find it hard to get through all of the misspelled words, names being confused and total lack of grammar.
This was a great book. I could barely put it down. Would probably read it a few more times. the characters in the stories are real. you laugh cry and yes even get mad. at some points I think I even blushed. I'd definitely recommend it.
Although I always try to keep a open mind about the books I just thought some of the storylines was ridiculous. So far and sins was my favorite. I keep putting the book down and coming back to it. I'm glad I didn't pay a lot for this books
Each story in the boxed set has strong characters that grow throughout the stories of passion and influences of the world that they came from to the circumstances they now find themselves in. Couldn't put them down.
If this lifestyle is not you, it will surely make you think twice. Taking you places, you've never been. Making you want more and more.... on a mind blowing experience that will last a lifetime.
The reason I am giving U only 4 star rating is because in some of the story there are chapters missing. Like in the first story (Sin) there is a chapter missing it is Chapter 16.
