Suddenly the perennial playboy is knee deep in pie charts and thinking he may have found the perfect mom for his boy. She's smart, funny, and directs a funeral home no less---what could be better? You know, after getting through about three chapters I jumped online and read a few reviews because I honestly wasn't feeling the darn book at that point. In fact, I thought the main character was idiotic and that he needed to be hit in the head with a hammer. The reviews I read were glowing. GLOWING. And I'm looking at them thinking that there must be something fundamentally wrong with me because I felt the exact opposite of everything that everyone else was feeling. Okay, I really do know there's nothing wrong with me, regardless of my predilection toward skull-themed clothing. I know that not every book will appeal to every person. I know all this. Yet... the thought still lingered.

Regardless of my fundamental wrongness, I finished the book. It was tough. I had a few moments where I wasn't sure it was going to happen. I even went through a period where I felt like Frodo on his epic journey to Mount Doom- I was just never going to reach the goal and there were possibly going to be creepy Gollum-like creatures threatening my well-being at every turn. BUT I FINISHED IT! I cast that bitch into the fiery depths of the mountain and sent the slavering hordes back to the hell from whence they were spawned!

Okay, it wasn't quite that dramatic. And now I have the urge to watch Lord of the Rings.

After that epic struggle, I still didn't care for the book. It was too flippant. It felt like it tried too hard to hit every single funny-bone moment that it could. Leonie, the main female character, was less a character and more of a cardboard cutout that Dakota was fixated on. There was really no chemistry between them.

About the only thing that saved the book was Dakota's realization that he could be a good father. He did grow. Somewhat.

I don't know. I don't like giving bad reviews but this book was really not my cup of tea. I have a good friend who firmly believes that every book has an audience waiting to discover it. I can say, without reservation, that I am not part of this book's audience.

I found myself laughing out loud, really. This was a great follow up to 'Scuse Me While I Kill This Guy'.

I gave it 5 chapters, but it was SO BAD that I had to put it down. I won’t rate it because I think that’s unfair to do to a book I haven’t finished, though I do know that if I had finished it, it would’ve been a one-star read.

Sorry Jenna…I tried! 😂

If you're feeling down and depressed, this is a great series to read. Not quite as hilarious as 'Scuse Me While I Kill This Guy, Dakota's book is still a lot of fun. Not sure about a lawyer that drops a kid off at his (unknown to him) biological father's doorstep without the paperwork, but, still, a lot of fun!

Another wacky adventure about the Bombay family of assassins. This time Dakota Bombay discovers he has a son and meets the assassins of his dreams. Often laughed out loud as I read this fun story.

"Guns Will Keep Us Together," is the second installment in the Bombay Assasins series. The first book introduced us to the family through the eyes of Gin Bombay. This second book is her brother, Dakota a.k.a. Daks, story.

Dak has been a womanizer all of his life. He goes after blonds and has a love and leave them attitude. Then one day a man from social services shows up with a six year old boy name Louis. One of Daks many conquest has his child. Unfortunately, she has died and her dying wish was that Louis be delivered to his father upon her death. Daks cannot believe it, but when his family finds out, they take Louis in with open arms. Louis is a percocious little boy who is six going on 40. He is bright, intelligent and mature beyond his years.

Dak's mother has set him up on another date. The woman is an ED doctor. Yep, you've got it right, erectile dysfuntion. Dak can get over that the doctor's voice sounds like a man. However, he meets a redhead named, Leonie Doubtfire that has him tongue tied and standing on unsure footing. She is a mortician and just bought Crummy's Funeral Home. He can't seem to get this woman out of his mind and they begin dating.

Meanwhile, the council calls Dak and his cousin Paris to a meeting. It seems that the family assasins annual report is in and their numbers are down by 25%. Since Dak and Paris have business degrees they want them to establish a brand that will help improve their numbers. They have two weeks to get the job done. It doesn't help matters when someone breaks into Daks home. All the robber will say is that "Doc Savage" sent him. Doc Savage, man of bronze is a mythical character from a book series.

Paris and Dak discover that an organization named National Resources has been basically stealing their business from them. They are lethal and cheaper than the Bombays. So, the council puts out a contract on the five member and Paris and Dak has to fulfill it. Dak and his sound Louis get to know one another while he and Paris take out four of the people on the hit list. When they discover the identity of the fifth person all hell is about to break loose. One thing I will say, we get a chance to see Dak's mother is all of her glory because no one but no one messes with a grandchild of Carolina.

This was another fun read in this series. It was nice getting a feel for other members of the Bombay family. I will say that it was pretty obvious who the fifth member of the National Resource was but the lack of surprise did not get in the way of my reading enjoyment. I will definitely be going on to read book three in this comical series.

The premise of these books is quite fun. The plot is also pretty good. I've only read two, but the relationships are incredibly unlikely and make the books less enjoyable to read. Things happen way too fast and no one seems to have any problem with that or throw up red flags. And by things, I mean commitment and marriage. Because it seems so unrealistic, I keep being drawn out of the story. Overall they're fun, light, easy reads, but nothing anyone needs to rush out and read.

I originally read this eight years ago. Though I didn't remember much about it, I still found it to be as predictable and funny as I did before. I originally read this eight years ago. The only drawback to the audio version is that the reader's voice was terrible (and didn't fit the character I pictured in my head) and he read too fast.

Another Bombay gets up to his pits in trouble

Dakota is a playboy assassin until he meets a redhead funeral director and finds himself with a six year old son from one of his many conquests. The fun is just beginning.

The first book in this series dealt with Gin Bombay. This one focuses on her little brother, the womanizing Dak. His life is upended when he is introduced to a son he never knew existed. Another good one in this series.

This high quality humourous mystery is the best laugh out loud book I've read in a long time. The characters are wildly entertaining, the mysteries are intriguing and the dialogue quite the comedy club. I'll definitely read more books in this series.

This was a fun read. The romance is very lacking. However, just the premise of an assassin finding love while balancing the family dymanic is very enjoyable. The story was charming and humorous.

Short review. *Spoilers* I like the second installment I thought it was really good, I wish that Dak's family had been a little understanding instead of giving him a hard time when he discover that he was father. He needed to adjust to the news not have everyone acting like he should go from 0 to 60 right off the back other than that I enjoyed the book.

This writer lives in the Quad Cities. That is my old neighborhood and I'm glad I didn't know that until after I finished this book!

Okay, the GOOD thing about this book is that the premise of it is wonderful. Really, it is. A family of assassins, from a tradition that is some 2000+ years old, is a great idea. In the hands of a good writer, this could have been fantastic. It could have been rich and layered and....good. Instead, it is campy, and silly and ridiculous. The names of everyone is the family is a place name, to the extreme that you have characters named Delaware and whatever else? Come on. The jokes aren't funny. The dialogue is clumsy and heavy handed. The relationship between the characters doesn't exist. They talk at each other, like cardboard, instead of to each other, like people. Langtry has good ideas. The plot of this book, a family enterprise that needs to spice up its marketing, is a great jumping off point. The problem is that Langtry needs more practice taking her good ideas and turning them into good books. She has the first part down: she has good ideas for plots and for characters. She just has to turn them from silly caricatures into people. If she does that, she'll be much, MUCH, better.

I really didn't like this book but grudgingly gave it an extra star because the humorous writing style showed the author has much talent when it comes to crafting a novel and telling a tale. However, a family who is quick to kill off children and grandchildren, even the tiny ones, who don't measure up and start to train 6-year-olds to kill people was just too sick for my taste and ceased to be funny, however witty the dialogue. At the point the grandmother ordered a DNA test on an out-of-wedlock six-year-old, who she planned to kill if he turned out not to be the hero's biological son, I pretty much ceased to find this book very funny or entertaining. Add to that the heroine's being the most colorless, boring dipstick in the history of romance (she decorated her funeral home in various shades of beige to suit her personality, or lack thereof) and you have a romantic comedy that is neither romantic nor funny. This sad tale was just a waste of a potentially talented writer's time and efforts.

This was another amusing light read for me. If you read the first book in the series, you know what to expect - lots of quick witty one liners and many references to pop culture. Honestly, I didn't really like Dakota's character - he was a womanizer (yeah, he reformed by the end), spoiled rotten, and didn't strike me as tough enough to be an assassin. At times, I actually thought the voice of Dakota was the same as his sister Ginny - if it wasn't for the obvious guy references I would have thought I was reading Ginny's story. Again the tale is very 2D - I didn't believe the any of the characters were realistic (especially the child), and I didn't believe in the romance. I was happy to see the the girlfriend turned out to be more than I expected (previous book, Diego was what he was, a bodyguard you don't want to hire), and we met up with all of the characters from the previous book. Will I read the next book?? Definately! Its too much of a fun ride NOT to join in - just don't think too hard about the story!

Dakota Bombay oozes sex appeal which matches perfectly with his line of work, an assassin. Dakota is from a long line of assassins and the Bombay's pride themselves with their work over the last few centureies, but times are changing and their numbers are down. The council wants to know why and assigns Dakota and his brother to take care of the competition, but Dakota's life is about to go from cushy to crazy when he finds out he has a six year old son he knows nothing about and he finds himself enraptured by a certain red head who is not his type but he can't seem to stop thinking about her.

There are a couple really hilarious moments in this book and I loved the beginning. Normally I have a hard time with first person narrative, but this one grabs you right away. My only issue with the book is that you really don't see a lot of development between Dakota and Leonie which would have elevated this one for me.

Guns Will Keep Us Together was a fun, fast read. I really enjoyed book one in the Bombay Assassins series, 'Scuse Me While I Kill This Guy (read my review here), and I jumped at the chance to read more of Leslie Langtry's unique series. After two and a half years of blogging, I still get a thrill when I actually receive a book that I've requested!

I love Langtry's wit, writing style, and unique storylines. The book moved at a great pace and kept me interested the entire time. My problem was with the narrator, Dakota. He's a real ladies man and I never quite connected with him. Much of the time, I didn't even like him! But, he grew on me and I found myself rooting for his happiness.

This series is so quirky and fun. I loved the concise ending and look forward to book three, Stand By Your Hitman.

This book was picked for a book club I am in. I don't usually pick romance types, but this was pretty funny.
This book cracked me up. The author is most definitely hilarious.
The main character Dac is an assassin. Not only that, but he was completely fool of himself and was a total player. He was silly. He grew up in the book though and fell in-love for the first time and found out he had a 6 year old son. I did like the book. I only gave it 2 stars because it didn't "wow" me. It was funny, but I was all that into the story. It was just a fun and easy read. =)

I did skim over the sex parts though. Wasn't into reading that stuff though the lady scared of trees that came out in a diaper had me rolling around laughing.. LOL!!
