I did it! It took a year and three months but I have now read the entire Catholic Bible. I am 100 percent sure God won't care at all when I meet him. If you have any doubt about God or any wonder about Satan, this book will most certainly address those questions while, at the same time, raising a bunch more. I am looking forward to a bible study group when my schedule changes.

I have read the Catholic Bible many times each year with the help of Our Daily Bread guides, but it didn't include the 7 Catholic books of the Bible and I had to work those in each year as well. My priest and friend gave me this book and I started it last January. Every day is a different reading in both the old and new testament. The book is not arranged traditionally, you just read along each day's assignment and you don't have to search for the correct old and new testament chapters. I love it!

This is the easiest way to read the entire Bible in a year. I just started in February but can already see that this is ideal for me. It takes just about 15 minutes a day. It's an Old Testament passage and a New Testament passage. It tells you what we are celebrating on the liturgical calendar and includes a quote from a Saint or blessed. What I appreciate is not having to figure out where to start or how many chapters to read. I highly recommend this book for any Catholic interested in an easy way to include Scripture into your everyday life.

I have read this one year Bible before. Decided to jump into it mid year,puts me right in the middle of 1 Samuel with Saul going after David and1 Corinthians. The format makes you read parts of the Bible that can be difficult or boring but ultimately there is always graces to be gathered in the struggle

Part of my ongoing project to read through most of the major English Bible translations. The text here is the 2010 revised edition of the New American Bible, a Roman Catholic translation not to be confused with the New American Standard Bible. The style (with gender-neutral language) is very much like that of the NRSV. One supposes there is probably some influence of the Vulgate in matters of translating particular verses. This is one of those editions where the readings are set our for each day of the year, with an Old Testament/Apocrypha reading and a New Testament reading for each day. The subtitle--20-Minute Daily Readings--is a bit misleading. Some of the daily readings were just over two pages, while others ran for almost ten. Matthew was divided up into passages that often were no more than a paragraph long, while Luke was generally read a chapter at a time. I didn't understand the rationale for the way the readings were divided.

The Catholic Bible in a Year

What I liked about this book, is that it covers the entire Roman Catholic scriptures. The RSVCE is used in the text, and it is both readable and a good translation. We use this translation during Holy Mass.

The readings are a bit long, it actually takes me longer than 20 minutes to get through them and make sense of them. But that is OK.

Each day you have an OT reading and a NT reading. You may want to split these between morning and evening.

Overall a good experience.

The format of this book makes it very approachable, breaking it down into daily chunks. Since I admittedly skimmed some long sections, particularly when I started to fall behind schedule, I’m going to continue to read it next year. The daily commitment to read one section is insignificant, and rereading will help me get more meaning out of the Bible.

It's difficult to read the Old Testament without notes to put it in context, but if you just want to read the scripture, this is an excellent way to do it. So glad I made the choice to do this this year.

Nice way of breaking the passages into manageable chunks.

The passages were of the right length each day. It also split between front to back and split up passages to cover the New Testament.

Love the layout of this book.

It is a complete Catholic bible with a good amount to read each day. It's quite straight forward, and love that you finish in one year.

It's amazing to think that Paul Thigpen's book helped me achieve a life long goal - to read the Bible from cover to cover. Of course, it's not the same a studying the Bible and this is why I appreciated this version. Unlike my study Bible, this edition has no footnotes, maps, concordance, or anything other than scripture.

Each day features a quote from the Saint whose feast is celebrated on that day. The Nook format worked great on my eReader and it was unbelievable to go through all of the books. Some were more challenging than others for me, particularly the prophetic books.

Bottom line: if you want to read the Bible in one year, this edition will get you there!

The bible divided into easy-to-read chunks. Each day of the year is assigned an Old Testament reading and a New Testament reading. Quotes from saints introduce each day of readings. This format made it easy to read the entire bible in 365 days and enabled me to complete my goal of reading the bible from cover to cover! I hope to continue this year after year.

Read the Bible in one year, one day at a time.

I have always imagined reading the Bible but one glance at the size of this magnificent book overwhelmed me. Then I found a way through this version to complete the reading in one year by simply reading one Old and one New Testament reading each and here I am on 12/302016 and it has been completed. I encourage you to do the same .

I read this every year. With this you read the Catholic Bible (NABRE) in a year in approximately 20 minutes a day. The NABRE is a wonderfully understandable, contemporary English version of the Bible and is the one used in Mass, etc., in American Catholic Churches. Goodreads asked me for a review because I just finished it, tomorrow I start again.

Very Good - I feel like I accomplished something worthwhile - I read the Bible - cover to cover. It reinforced my habit of reading scripture each day. I highly recommend it!
