About The Bionics
The year is 4010. Nuclear war and the wasteful nature of humans have all but destroyed the United States. A new government regime rules the day with strict laws, rationed food, and careful control. When those injured in the nuclear blasts that rocked many of the nations largest cities are offered another chance by the Restoration Project, how could they refuse?

Little do they know that the robotic additions to their body will paint targets on their backs once the government decides that they are dangerous. At the forefront of the resistance is a girl with a bionic eye, Blythe Sol, who wants nothing more than to be a normal girl. Blythe has yet to realize that normal will never exist again for her, or anyone else.

About The Bionics, Book 1:
All I ever wanted was to be a normal girl. I had dreams of joining the ranks of the Military Police and making my family proud. But the nuclear war that laid waste to our country destroyed any hope I had of being normal ever again. They took everything away from me, including my humanity. I am now half-human, half-machine, part of the never-ending freak show that is the Restoration Project.

They hate what they created and they fear us for being powerful.

And so they hunt us, destroying our lives so that they can bury what they built. What they don’t know is there is a Resistance out there and The Bionics aren’t going down without a fight.

Here's the thing. I have a peeve. Well, I have tons of peeves about bookish stuff, and I've written about them plenty before. And this one hits upon a peeve of mine.

First, let's chat about what I did like. I liked the characters and the unique personalities. The three main characters each get to share their POV in a part of the book, and I found that to be an interesting way of doing things, and it worked well to share the various perspectives.

The world building was solid and disturbing and realistic. The Bionics are people who were injured in the horrific events and then were given special prosthetics or computerized body parts to replace their broken ones. Then, quickly, they became a "threat" to society, and anyone with enhanced features became a public enemy. The brutal treatment of the people who get captured (and have their prosthetics ripped out) by the government is very disturbing and effective to set the scene and make this dystopian world quite scary.

I also enjoyed the narrator. She did a good job with individual voices and accents. She helped make the characters realistic.

So my peeve? When a book stops. Just, stops. Yes, cliffhangers are annoying, but this isn't what I'm talking about quite here. The book does end on a secret reveal about one of our main characters during his POV section, but the book then just ends with him getting his face slapped by the girl. Done. Book over. Sorry, but that's not a conclusion or a cliffhanger. I love a good series, but I also love each book to stand on its own pages. This one did a great job setting up the story, the world, and the conflict, but it didn't satisfy upon the conclusion.

Another thing I didn't love? How each chapter started like a log entry with the names of characters involved in that chapter, and date of "entry". The rest of the narrative wasn't like a journal but just a continuation of the story from multiple POV, so that felt odd.

Has anyone read this book or this series? It sounds like there are quite a few books in the series, so I'm intrigued but unsure.

I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook for my honest review.

OMG! i cant believe THATS where the book finished! bloody unbelievable.

So obviously i highly enjoyed this book. the world and technology was fantastic and so interesting. the writing was great, which is always important - nothing more off putting than bad writing.
The characters where also wonderful though while Blythe is pretty awesome i think its a bit of a joke that the two hottest and most alpha guys there are both into/love her, there are plenty of other fantastic characters so why her? you get me?
also why does she make out her life is so much harder then everyone else's? i imagine quiet a few people have lived through similar things in this "world" or possibly even worse.
still this book was pretty mind blowing awesome, so im very excited about the next installment.

What a start to this exciting series! Even though The Bionics is a novella, it excels in building a world that is well thought out and described fluidly. I was able to read this story in one sitting and devoured it. The story quickly draws you in with the skilled writing and descriptive world.

I'm a fan of dystopian young adult books, and The Bionics holds its own with the popular books in this genre. The concept behind the world is intriguing, and I found myself wanting to read more to discover all the details that I could. This book was told from the point of view of Blythe, and she was an excellent introduction to this story and this world.

There is a sprinkling of romance, but it doesn't overshadow the rest of the story. The tension, with the romance and the society, is brimming over the edge. As soon as I finished this part of the story, I wanted to continue reading the rest of it.

If you're a fan of the Divergent or The Hunger Games with a SciFi twist, you'll love The Bionics!

**I received this book free of charge in exchange for an honest review. My thanks to Clean Teen Publishing and Alicia Michaels.

Honestly, I didn't think I would like this story. I'm not a big fan of Sci-Fi or Dystopian books, but this book pleasantly surprised me. I was engrossed from almost the beginning of the book. The characters are interesting and entertaining to read about and the idea of this story is really unique and unlike books I've read before!

I love the plot to the story. A group of half-human, half-mechanical people, coming together to rescue others who are like them from the people who made them the way they are. When a nuclear war injured many people, they took those hurt or poisoned by the bombs and fixed them, giving them bionic abilities and mechanical appearances. When they, the people who created them, started to fear their power, they tried killing those who hid away from them. The Bionics are seen as outcasts. As targets that are dangerous and need to be taken out. In such, they became, the Resistance, and they'll do anything to protect their kind from the people who made them the way they are today.

I seriously enjoyed this first part to this series. I look forward to seeing what happens next in the story! I recommend this book to everyone!

The Bionics is the first book in an pretty intense and intriguing NA series. I didn't know much about the book before I picked it up but it turned out pretty good. I loved the dystopian setting where people who have bionic parts are being hunted because they are supposedly dangerous. In Bionics, the Resistance against the government who hunts and kills Bionics is introduced.

I really enjoyed this book, even though it was really small and all the action is left for the next one. It was a great introduction to the characters and the Resistance and the world they are fighting against. The romance moved a bit fast but still I did love reading about all the characters so I didn't mind that much.

The ending left so much more to be expected. I am picking up the second book immediately.

In Book 1 of the series, the reader is introduced to the Resistance. A group of Bionics that strive to be accepted and live in a world that shuns them. The main character, Blythe, is well developed. You feel her struggles and the reader connects to her story. Blythe saw her family gunned down because they refused to turn her over to the Military Police to be destroyed. She fights the demons inside her daily and with the help of her friend, Dax, she copes. Her salvation is in finding and rescuing others like her.

Since this book includes multiple POVs the reader also get view point of Dax. We get his shady back story and well as a gruff look at the Resistance and their plan to rescue the hostages and other Bionics by storming the Capital. The romance that he wants between himself and Blythe is explored. Don’t be fooled. This is no sappy love story. The action and suspense grips all pages.

Lastly, we get the POV of Gage who also becomes a love interest for Blythe. Gage, Dax, Blythe, the Professor, and other members of the Resistance stage a rescue for Olivia and other Bionics from the prison in Washington D.C. Of course dangers and unexpected chaos arises. The team gets separated and receives aid from a very unlikely source, The Rejects. This doesn’t come without a price. Secrets are revealed and lives are changed forever.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Alicia Michaels and her Bionics Series. These stories play out in my head like a television series. Mrs. Michael’s vivid descriptions of the post bombed U.S. and the part human, part machine Bionics comes alive in my imagination. I am so glad I gave this series a shot. I haven’t been able to put it down.

Having just finished reading book 1 of the "Bionics" series 'The Bionics' I am HOOKED!! It had been a while since I'd last read a dystopian/sci-fi book, but once I started I was literally sitting on the edge of my seat till the end. I was engrossed from the first sentence!

Set in the years after the necluer war in 4006, people turned to robotics or Bionics to help all the injured left. The Govenment in charge at first likes the idea, but soon they change there minds & start the hunt of all Bionic/humans.

I loved the plot of this story, half human/half robotic resistance coming together to help others like themselves to escape the tyranny of the Govenment, who made them how they are in the first place. The POV changes through out the book are marked clearly, which helps when you start reading a new POV, otherwise things would be confussing. We get POV's from Blythe, Dax & Gage.... I need more, I found the whole idea behind this book not only intriging but unique. Bring on book 2, reader for life!

This book paints an appalling picture of a post-apocalyptic dystopian future in which hate, prejudice and greed prevail. For me, the story started slowly but soon built momentum as the characters’ unique characteristics and background were gradually revealed.

I loved the narrator’s voice and the writing style that brought this imaginative tale to life. I did not care for the love triangle, but it did not impede the action and adventure scenes that made this book so much fun to read, for me.

I look forward to the next book and watching this fictional world expand as the Resistance strives to overcome the mostly manufactured bigotry and fear rampant within this broken society.

This book was given to me in exchange for my honest review.

I would love to give four stars to this book for the interesting dystopian, sci fi world building, the quality of the writing, and the suspense. But I was very disappointed in the casual attitude to sex, and way that the promiscuous female character was referred to as the "slut" but those who slept with her were not given a label. The sex wasn't graphic, but just didn't make sense given the relationships that we were supposed to be drawn to amongst the characters. Further, a decision to terminate a pregnancy in a group that is about saving lives, and a tiresome love triangle, convinced me I won't be reading on.

This romance between a bionic girl and a "normal" and another bionic was sweet, a little bit too sweet for me.

On the path to saving lives and hiding to survive in a world pretty hostile to say the least, there are: intense kissing sessions, interrupted sex scenes, sexiest men in the history of the world speaking like poets to court a shy girl and rescue missions that turn into " we have to do it again because we forgot someone".

I wasn't really seduced.

I am sorry but after about 10% of the way thru this book I had to stop. Supposedly takes place in the year 4000-something but the villains and technologies are current or near term future.... ok except for the ‘bionics’. But I mean really ..... Bionic left hemisphere of a child’s brain? Bionic adrenal gland that makes you move super fast? Kevlar hard skin replacement that a knife cannot penetrate? Trying too hard.

***THIS REVIEW HAS BEEN UPDATED BECAUSE IT SEEMED INCOMPLETED AND DID NOT DO THE SERIES JUSTICE. THIS IS A COMPLETE LOOK AT THE SERIES AS A WHOLE.

The Bionics Series is a group of short (120-150 pages) stories meant to be read as a group. This is not a stand alone book. In order to fully understand and comprehend the reader needs to read the series in order. Each book is told in a different characters POV. In doing so the author gives you a unique understanding of all sides. Honestly from the synopsis I didn’t think I would like this book. Sci Fi, dystopian type books are not my genre, but Bionics surprised me. The series is based on a group of outcasts called the Bionics. The US Government who made them after the horrific bombings that shattered the land and its people, has now turned against them and sees the Bionics as a threat. Due to the mechanics of having titanium legs, bionic eyes and Kevlar skin the government is scared that with the Bionics physical superiority they may take over. The Government declares that all Bionics must be destroyed thus making the Bionics fugitives on the run. The Government also runs false propaganda against them to turn the "normal people" against them. The Bionics as a whole are not a violent people and want to live normally as they did before. Striving to maintain their way of life the Bionics are forced to live in refuge camps in hiding. Teams go out in search of others like them and bring them back to city they have created. This is a great series that showcases the heart of the human spirit. It shows us that our differences are what make us who we are and that those differences should be embraced and not ridiculed or punished.

Bionics (Book 1)

In Book 1 the reader is introduced to the Resistance.

It is a well written opening book. You do have to read Book Two to finish the story.

Titanium (Book 2)

Book 2, Titanium, picks up immediately where Book 1 ended so you will not be disappoint. There is not a recap so you need to read the series in order. Again, I have to say that this is not my genre but the author, Alicia Michaels, does an excellent job of painting a canvas of a post apocalyptic world that sucks me in every time. I am compelled to complete this series.

Book 2 is written from the view point of Dax. We get his shady back story and well as a gruff look at the Resistance and their plan to rescue the hostages and other Bionics by storming the Capital. The romance that he wants between himself and Blythe is explored in Book 2 also. Don’t be fooled. This is no sappy love story. The action and suspense grips all pages. You won’t be able to put this book down. Once again we end with a conflict so moving on to Book 3 is a must!

Secrets (Book 3)

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Alicia Michaels and her Bionics Series. These stories play out in my head like a television series. Mrs. Michael’s vivid descriptions of the post bombed U.S. and the part human, part machine Bionics comes alive in my imagination. I am so glad I gave this series a shot. I haven’t been able to put it down.

Secrets is action packed just like the books before it. This installment is told form the POV of Gage. There is never a dull moment in this series. Gage, Dax, Blythe, the Professor, and others stage a rescue for Olivia and other Bionics from the prison in Washington D.C. Of course dangers and unexpected chaos arises. The team gets separated and receives aid from a very unlikely source, The Rejects. This doesn’t come without a price. As the title suggests, secrets are revealed and lives are changed forever. I cannot wait to pick up Spark and continue this storyline!

Spark (Book 4)

In the fourth installment of The Bionics Series, Spark picks up with the Resistance battling the Rejects as well as battling the negative propaganda perpetrated by the Government. This installment is told from the POV of Blythe. Blythe has endured a lot in the previous books and you really see her come out in this book. Without giving away spoilers, get ready to see the kick ass side of Blythe as she emerges into a warrior in the battle against the Rejects. The Resistance also gets some unlikely help from a former Army Corporal. Look for something that Gage said back in Book 3 to create a “spark” in book 4.

As I have said in previous reviews of this series, I didn’t think I would like it but wanted to give the author a shot. This has been a great, exciting, fast paced series. I am now in the midst of a book hangover until another installment is released

I received this book from the author to give my reaction to the different twists and turns, characters, strength of the fantasy presented etc.

What an amazing read! I didn't quite know what to expect when I started reading this book. Half-human and half-machine you kind of wonder if you will enjoy this book. And let me say I did. From the first chapter I was hooked! I loved how it was set into the future but did not have that normal future setting like most books have. I have to say I loved the character Blythe, with her being reserved but bitchy when she needed to be. I also enjoyed how everyone was a family even though they were not blood, and had each other's back. I can see a love triangle happening between Gage, Blythe, and Dax. It will be interesting to see what happens between all three of them, and who will Blythe pick.

The Bionics takes place in the year 4010, and bombs have hit cities in America. For those that were hurt by these bombs they had parts put on them. Such as titanium legs, arms, robotic eyes, skin that you can not penetrate. After a while the president and the M.P.'s started to capture those that were half-machine, he wants to get rid of "those" type of people. Blythe, Dax and the others have a hiding place and take in refugees they go on missions to different towns and help rescue those and bring them back to where they are safe. On one of the missions they come back empty-handed but one of their team-mates ends up bringing back refugees that will join their team and Blythe falls for one of them. Gage! Now Gage has his own story though he is quiet about it. Feelings are put out in the open, a male pissing contest starts. And they have a mission that needs to be done. Will they succeed?

My favorite quote within this book was the following when Blythe was talking to Gage. "I'm not kidding Gage, I will smack the shit out of you with my titanium hand and you'll wake up tomorrow with a concussion." All I could do was laugh because how many times have we wanted to smack a guy not with our titanium hand but our hand none the less. Especially when they walk away from us like Gage did with Blythe.

There were some parts that I wished the author would have elaborated more on. Such as how old was Blythe when the unthinkable happened to her family and what kind of person was she before? Was she kind, hateful? How exactly did Dax find her? Why were only those cities affected? How does the professor know Gage exactly? (which that maybe reveled in book 2) What exactly caused the humans to turn on the people that were part machine? Was all the food affected by the bombs? How is life for the "not-machine" people? Do they have regular jobs?

I do love the way the ending was. It makes you want to read more about what is going to happen. Are they going to succeed? Is anyone going to get hurt? Maybe the author will put some more background into Blythe, Gage, and Dax. I can not wait to read book 2 I so need to find out from the author when that will be coming out. :D Thank you for the wonderful book to read for you. I truly enjoyed it.

Well I totally, absolutely loved this book. I never read a book about a half robot person before and it sursprised me to realize that i was still able to relate with her. I'm not as sentimental over the family thing as she is but i still think we have a ton of things in common. These sorts of books are my favorite to read; ones where the characters reactions would be my own. In most books, its more like "UUGGHH, Why did you do/think/say that?"

Characters. All the characters in this book were great! They were very interesting in their own ways and it was easy to dislike the ones you were supposed to dislike. The sort of love pentagon thing was a bit weird though, but i enjoyed reading the different sides. I remember being younger and having a crush on like 3 guys at once, so it's very realistic. There were awesome amounts of sarcasm, which i totally adore, and a fair amount of humor too, which i also totally loved. In general, all the characters were developed very well. All were strong and independent. My favorite would have to be Blythe, of course, but i really adored Dax and Yasmine as well.

Plot. The storyline of this book was spectacular In a nutshell, the was a nuke war. The injured was given a second chance at living by being giving robotic type limb (or other body part) replacements. Then, when the government how strong the new "bionics" were they wanted to back out and decided they were terrorists. In theory though, a person that's half robot (just think a really intelligent terminator could be wicked dangerous. I don't want to bring in too much politics but it's like the gun control thing. Millions of people have guns but only sick/uneducated/evil people actually shoot people down and act like terrorists. And if they don't shoot people down, well, they will find a sling blade or bomb or whatever else they think they need to fulfill their sick perversions. Anyway, so the government wants to strip all there robotic parts away and let them die or just plain killed them out right. The magnitude of this story makes me feel kind of sad. While this is just a book, the same concept of oppression can be applied to so many things. The plot of this book ended at a very critical time in the story, so i am very interested in getting my hands on the next book! I really really want to know what happens!

Setting. The setting of this book was great. I could really see and feel the desolation of the cities. Likewise, inside the compound and hoovercraft i could really imagine the environment well. I'm not sure if this was my own rogue imagination or if the book gave me what i need, but i definitely have a good envisioning of most scenes in the book. My favorite scene is the when Agata is in the glass room!

All in all i most definitely loved this book and will most definitely be reading any other books in this series. I noticed that the Author has another series out as well. I will probably check that out too because i really like her writing style! I'd recommend this book to anyone wanting to read a good apocalyptic book without zombies!

The Bionics by Alicia Michaels is an intriguingly original and highly satisfying story that will pull you in quickly and hold you until the very end. The pace is fast yet evenly held throughout the twists and turns that come around every corner. I couldn’t guess what was coming next which kept me reeled in the entire time. This story had me on the edge of my seat in eager anticipation of how the plot would thicken and develop.

I have read a few dystopian stories up to this point, and this genre is quickly becoming one of my favorites. The mystery of each new reality has me breathlessly peeking around the next corner to see what it coming ahead. The determination of the characters to live a real and rich life has me desperate to make sure that I remember that each day. The realization that no matter how quickly or how harshly freedom, safety, and joy are stamped out, the innate drive in each us to preserve these things forces us to push that much harder in order to recover them no matter the cost. Their harsh world proves to them over and over that love, hope, and faith are the only things that will keep you alive. They are the only things that will keep your heart beating, your mind functioning, and your soul from dying.

Each of these alternate earths shows me many of the same truths that echo over and over. Those truths take on many different shapes and sizes, but their content is just as important as the next. We need to learn from these truths and take them to heart in order to now allow our world to become like theirs. As far-fetched as their world may seem, it wouldn’t take much for our society to delve from one extreme to another.

Alicia Michaels has penned a truly touching yet intensely dark story of devastating loss, determined preservation, and delicate hope. She takes special care to highlight the worth of each of us. Our differences make us who we are. They shouldn’t be used as a basis for discrimination but instead as a beacon of hope of what can be accomplished through each of our unique abilities and gifts. Each of us is inherently beautiful and innately valuable beyond any measure that man can take. The Bionics is sure to tug on your heart strings and will refuse to let go even after the story ends. Consider what could be at stake if you don’t open your heart to this spellbinding story of hope and worth. I hope you take up the challenge and dive in to find the precious treasure that lies just beneath the surface.

This book was given to me by the author for an honest review.

The future looks grim, especially if you’re a victim of the program created by a government that now resents those same victims they created. Known as the Bionics, men, women, and children who suffered the loss of limbs, organs, and even skin in the nuclear war are now outlaws whose only hope is the Resistance. That’s where Blythe comes into play, rescuing the refugee Bionics, saving them from a death sentence if caught by Military Police.

One of the first things I noticed about this book is the very real possibility of these actual events occurring, perhaps much sooner than the year in which this story takes place. There are many factors in the scene that make this story seem much more real than others of its genre. The author does a wonderful job of opening the story with action, captivating the reader from the first page, and keeping that energy throughout the rest of the book. I absolutely loved the tension, the descriptions, and the inner struggles Blythe has going on inside her head. One downside to this story is that it’s quite short and the reader is left wanting more of the story. But that’s not really such a bad thing, since I’m certain the action picks right back up in book 2 of the series. I do wish there was a little more background given on some of the characters, like Dax. I’d love to know more about his story and how he came to be in the resistance, and perhaps a little more background on how the Resistance itself came about. Some details are provided, but the reader is still left with just a few questions. I don’t feel it really takes away from the quality of the story, however, it’s just something I would have liked to see more of.

I’m really looking forward to reading the second book in this series, because the author did such a great job setting up the tension that I’m craving more. I would definitely give this 4/5 stars, and would be 5 had there been just a little more background to the story.

What a fresh and new story i honestly have to say my one disappointment is that its a novella.. i didnt want the story of Blythe.. Dax.. and Gage to end.. but lemme tell you a little bit about it and hopefully youll see where im coming from..

The story is set in 4010.. btw STILL no jet packs.. i know im slightly disappointed in humanity as well.. As it usually does shit has hit the fan and our country is war torn.. we were bombed and those who didnt loose their lives perhaps lost a limb or 5 but because of Professor Hinckley they were given bionic limbs! yeah awesome right.. pretty much anything could be bionic.. but after they were umm for lack of a better word created our government turned them into villains and sought to destroy them.. Professor Hinckley couldnt let that happen so he and the bionics went underground so to speak.. Blythe lost her family after she recieved her new limbs they were trying to protector her and thats somethings shes got top live with.. and its not easy.. Dax saved her and gave her new purpose of course they are best friends and OF course theres unspoken feelings.. that dont really surface until they meet Gage he is rescued along with other bionics only he is normal he is intact.. He is accompanying a bionic little girl hes niece to be exact she has a bionic left brain and can do some pretty awesome stuff.. while they were being rescued a huge group of bionics were found and kidnapped sentenced to death and all Blythe and her friends want to do is help them.. save them and so they set out to do just that..

It is a different world now. After the nuclear war many people had to become part machine just to live. The government helped in these projects to give people a fighting chance. Now the government wants them destroyed and will stop at nothing to do so. Blythe once had dreams of being military police now she is in the middle of saving what the government calls the Bionics. She will do whatever it takes to stop the government.

Blythe puts up a very tough exterior. She doesn't like to talk about what led to her having machine parts. She like many others has had a bad past but she above all else wants to help other people survive. She hates the government and along with all this she is confused by her feelings for the new guy Gage. Gage is from a rich part of the country and very protective of his niece. He really doesn't let you into his head yet. I'm not sure about him yet. Now for the one I love is Dax. He is tough and really cares about Blythe even if he won't show how much. He is the one who tries to save all people with machine parts.

I really like this story. You get the feel of what happened as you read and you can see how the government has turned on these people. They are still people but don't get treated that way. Now they have done what I would do as well. Started to fight back and you can't blame them. This is a quick enjoyable read that leaves you wanting more. You like some of the people some I didn't so I won't say all of them. I want to know more about these characters and see what they do and especially Jax.

This is a great sci-fi novel. The idea leaves so much room for growth. It is well-written, interesting, and it just grabs your attention. Once I started reading, I couldn't stop, reading until the end.

You really get to know the main character Blythe, which is essential for a story. You wonder about her, and hope things go her way, and are concerned about her interactions with other people. The world that the Bionics is set in is explained well, and easy to understand without having it all dumped on you to set things up.

I wish there was an option for half stars, because I would have given this 4.5 stars. The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars was because I felt like the romantic relationship was slightly forced. It kind of took away from the flow of the story, and while the actions of the two characters leading up to it was okay, the one scene. I kind of was ready to just get back to the problems at hand with the people in the novel. I felt like the relationship really would have developed more. I don't want to spoil it for other readers so I won't go into details.

The story also could have been longer, but it is part of a series, and honestly, I only wanted to read more because it was so good!

I would read more. I think this is a great series. I hope the rest is just as good!

This book is amazing. The story of this bionics characters suck you in and the more you read the more you want to know about them. The sad part of this story is how we still at war with other people and always trying to kill innocent people in the process is sad to know is the truth even do is a book. But the story of this people half human and half robots are amazing and how they help each other and try to become stronger to prove they are not a threat to other people but they are just like regular people just with a little bit of difference. I like Blythe character so much she's strong and always trying to help others even do she's still grieving about her family. Dax is strong and gets mad pretty quickly especially if is has to do with Blythe and his a little over protected of her but I think is because he loves her more than a brother. Gage I think I'm writing the names right lol but I think his handsome and a little mysterious but he is sweet because his protecting somebody that he loves and care for. I don't wanna give out to much and I can keep talking about this book but I think it would be better if you go an check it out. I know your gonna enjoy the book just like I did. Hopefully you give a try and I promise you would be hook. Well I'm off to read book 2 of this awesome series don't miss out.
Happy reading

Blythe is bionic, she has an arm that is made out of machinery because she lost it during the nuclear war. Now feared by all, Blythe is one of many bionics who take part in the Resistance, rescuing those who were “restored” by the government but now is hunted by all. Dax is Blythe’s friend, the only person whom she lets gets close enough to her and who really knows who she is. Together they make an amazing team, rescuing other people who hide from the government.

I have only read one other book where there was a cyborg type of storyline. This one however was different that one…I was hooked right from the beginning! Bionics was written from Blythe’s point of view and how she saw how things were going. The story moved along a great pace, with characters joining in and bringing a little spin to the tale. I truly enjoyed the characters and the personality that they each had; they all have been through a lot and have something to add. Throughout the story, I couldn’t put the book down….I wanted to know Blythe’s story. I wanted to know more about Blythe & Dax…was there more to them than just friends? I wanted to know more about the resistance and whether or not they can dismantle the Restoration Project.

Blythe and Dax are best friends, brought together by tragedy, heartache, and having titanium body parts. They're part of a Resistance of others like them, on the run from a government trying to decommission all the "Bionics," even if they're no threat whatsoever. Set in the distant future, bombs were dropped all across the U.S., and many survived the blasts and resulting fallout and other issues by replacing their damaged body parts with titanium/bionic ones. The government did this to help save lives, but then decided the "Bionics" couldn't be trusted anymore and created an initiative to get rid of them all. Our main characters are all fighting for their lives while trying to save others from meeting the same fate.

While this book might seem a little short, it definitely has a lot of information, and I found it extremely enjoyable. The tension created between Blythe and Dax when the new guy, Gage, is brought into their Resistance facility is almost palpable, and that, coupled with the problem of the government trying to kill them all makes for a great story. I can't wait to see how this series continues!

The Bionic is a series of book that you really need to read in succession. I have never read dystopian before and I wasn't really sure just what to expect or even if I would enjoy it. But I was really pleasantly surprised and I thoroughly enjoyed the book and the concept that the series is about.

One thing I loved was how each book is told by one characters point of view, it gives you a better idea of them and what the are personally facing a midst all the civil unrest.

As each book concentrates on one characters POV you get a better connection with them this way, not that I didn't instantly connect with th from the start, but hearing their own story about how the Restoration Project came to change their life -for better and for worse - you get a better understanding as to what life is like for them as a bionic.

The way that Alicia Mitchell's describes the post apocalyptic world, and the bionic enhancements that the characters have has you instantly imagining it clearly in your head.

These were a great series of books and I really enjoyed the genre, definitely will be checking out more of the dystopian and post apocalyptic genre.

Although a book of novella length, there is a lot of ground covered in the pages that make up The Bionics, the first in a series of science fiction books by author Alicia Michaels. The events of this story take place far the future, in the early years of the 41st century. Telling the story of a group of individuals with bionic modifications who are part of the Resistance against the government who want to exterminate them, this first book introduces us to members of a team who are trying to save others like them.

Two of the main characters are Blythe and Dax, both of whom I grew to like, as well as Gage. The book may have been short, but I felt in that time that they were well-developed. Not only that, I found it easy to be sympathetic to their plight. I also need to make mention of Agata, who is an absolutely adorable character. I know that there are two other books in this series, and I'm curious to see how events unfold and find out what happens to all of them.

I'd recommend this book to any fans of bionically-modified humans or science fiction in general.

A great short story that put me in the mindset of Hunger Games and Divergent but with more. The Bionics are the government's creation. After nuclear bombs were dropped in several major cities, the government created a program to help those injured. A couple of years later, the government wants them all to turn themselves in and give up what they gave them, no matter what quality of life, if they survive the removal, the people will have after. Seems the sky is the limit on what the scientists created (arms, legs, eyes, glands, etc.)and now they are scared of those very creations. So, the Bionics go into hiding and create a resistance movement.

With all this going on, a very tense love triangle is starting to form between Blythe, Dax, Gage. This was just an intro, so of course it has you wanting more and ends when things are really starting to get good.

Love the cover too. Sci-Fi is not my normal reads but I've been adding them to the mix and I'm glad I picked this one up.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for a review.

Well what can I say? It is great to see some NA authors tackling sci fi and doing it in such an amazing way. I love the idea that the government came up with the technology to save people and then decided they were so frightened by their own scientific development that they felt they had to eradicate a whole race.

My only complaint would be that it was too short and has that pesky cliffhanger ending that authors like to throw around lately (which in this case wasn't too bad for me as I had book 2 ready to go). I wonder if perhaps the subject matter is so good that this series of Novella's wouldn't be better put together as a novel as the pages certainly flew by.

Definitely for older teen / adults for the language content.

The Bionics by Alicea Michaels, is the first part of a face paced read. This romantic science-fiction story is a thought-provoking take on the victims of war and the government's accountability towards them. In this story, bionic replacements of damaged body parts are given to the victims. Once the war is over, the same victims are branded dangerous by government forces and rounded up to remove all bionic limbs. This spells possible death for a lot of them and they form a clandestine resistance group. Gage, the only full-human character infiltrates the group in order to save and protect his young bionic niece. Being bionic doesn't exclude the human side of the victims and emotions prevail. The story ends at a cliffhanger where a dangerous rescue is about to occur.
This story is a sure pleaser for young and more mature readers and a great incitement to go on to the sequel.

Let me state for the record that I am not usually a fan of futuristic style books. I had some reservations about reading this book, but I have followed Alicia Michaels on social media for a while and she sold me on reading them. I am not sorry I took the chance!
Living in a world that is far in the future some people are now Bionics, part robot. We meet Blythe and her best friend Dax as they search for other people like them. They work on a team, but they are very close friends too. Problems start to occur in the friendship with the addition of Gage to the team. Gage has secrets to hide of his own. He comes in with his niece Agata, and he will do anything to protect her.
Can Blythe focus on the job of saving other Bionics while trying to figure out her feelings for these two guys? You will need to read this to find that out! Now for book 2!

This book is amazing, heart-wrenching and inspiring all at the same time! Set 2000 years in the future, it doesn't seem our government has changed much, create something and then hate it, turn everyone against it with lies, and then try to destroy it.
Nuclear bombs are dropped all throughout the U.S.A. and the government is able to save many many lives by adding bionic parts to them to save them. But then like our government does, they turn on the very thing they have created. Now the bionics are fighting for their lives and on the run and in hiding. This beautiful story is one of fighting for what is right and never giving up hope that good and truth will win in the end. Plus an amazing twist of sci fi that left my jaw hanging open and thinking...now wouldn't that be awesome!! But alas, now I am chewing my nails off waiting to see what is going to happen next! Bring on book 2!!!
