Gilbert Keith Chesterton (1874–1936) was an English writer. He wrote on philosophy, ontology, poetry, plays, journalism, public lectures and debates, literary and art criticism, biography, Christian apologetics, and fiction, including fantasy and detective fiction. Chesterton is often referred to as the "prince of paradox". Whenever possible, Chesterton made his points with popular sayings, proverbs, and allegories—first carefully turning them inside out.

Chesterton is well known for his reasoned apologetics and even some of those who disagree with him have recognized the universal appeal of such works as Orthodoxy and The Everlasting Man. Chesterton, as a political thinker, cast aspersions on both progressivism and conservatism, saying, "The whole modern world has divided itself into Conservatives and Progressives. The business of Progressives is to go on making mistakes. The business of the Conservatives is to prevent the mistakes from being corrected." Chesterton routinely referred to himself as an "orthodox" Christian, and came to identify such a position more and more with Catholicism, eventually converting to Roman Catholicism from High Church Anglicanism. George Bernard Shaw, Chesterton's "friendly enemy" said of him, "He was a man of colossal genius".

Gilbert Keith Chesterton was an English writer, philosopher, lay theologian, and literary and art critic.

He was educated at St. Paul’s, and went to art school at University College London. In 1900, he was asked to contribute a few magazine articles on art criticism, and went on to become one of the most prolific writers of all time. He wrote a hundred books, contributions to 200 more, hundreds of poems, including the epic Ballad of the White Horse, five plays, five novels, and some two hundred short stories, including a popular series featuring the priest-detective, Father Brown. In spite of his literary accomplishments, he considered himself primarily a journalist. He wrote over 4000 newspaper essays, including 30 years worth of weekly columns for the Illustrated London News, and 13 years of weekly columns for the Daily News. He also edited his own newspaper, G.K.’s Weekly.

Chesterton was equally at ease with literary and social criticism, history, politics, economics, philosophy, and theology.

G.K. Chesterton is like one of those desserts you love and want to eat the whole thing in one sitting. Wisdom says to lengthen it to enjoy it, relish it, comprehend the tastes and aroma with a good red wine or 20 year old single malt scotch that blends wonderfully with every sip and bite....awe...yes! Three years is all it took and better to have enjoyed the journey to the finish of the whole that to have rushed and paid the price with a headache and bad digestion. G.K. is a formidable thinker with great humor and deep insights. The world he lived in suffered the same evil as we know face it is interesting to hear his thoughts on evil. As an Anglican I see his freedom in the Kingdom although can't buy into the Catholic world totally, I understand and agree with those things I biblically can. He never makes you feel less because you aren't Catholic. C.S. Lewis, N.T. Wright, Bonhoeffer, Barth and Chesterton together in one room would make for a great evening that would be - cigars, brandy, music, laughter and nothing in the way of light dinner chit-chat! READ them take the journey relish them all.

So much Chesterton for such a price that is almost theft. This supremely gifted novelist, essayist, and Christian apologist is more relevant than ever a 80 after his death. Contains all his essential writings and the Father Brown mysteries, too.

Gilbert Keith Chesterton (Reino Unido 1874-1936). Formidable ensayista.

If you’re asphyxiating in the environment of a toxic ideology, Chesterton will swoop down, carry you away, pour tonic down your throat and thump you on the back. Then he’ll tickle you until you start to laugh, set you on your feet and prod you in the small of the back to get you going again. He’ll even walk with you along the path, just for the joy of it....Read the full review: https://catholicreads.com/2018/12/05/...
