This state quilt documentation book compares very favorably to those I've read so far. Forty-five quilts, chosen from just under 2000 documented examples, are featured in the slim ( ninety-four page) volume. Family quilts and those in private collections (vs. museums)were emphasized. The book lives up to its title by connecting the textiles with the development of our country. Scenes from collections of early Vermont photographs added a nice touch; feeding chickens, leading the cows home and flocks of sheep. The history of Vermont and its people was very interesting to me and the writing was excellent.
