For the first time in her adult life, Nicole Tate is without a job after being "let go" from her position as a fifth-grade teacher. She suddenly finds herself alone in Chicago with no real friends, no family, no job, and no love life.
Wanting to tear up the town after being a quiet teacher for months, she heads to the local club where sex, drugs, and disco reign. There, she meets Dex Holden, owner of the hottest dance studio and school in the city, and he also happens to be the hottest man Nicole has ever seen.
After a night of exploration and adventure with Dex and his smoldering partner, Felix, Dex offers Nicole a job as his studio receptionist and a spot as his partner in a dance contest that can both boost his career and help him buy the disco club he loves.
But convincing the jealous Felix that Nicole deserves her spot in the dance contest and in Dex's heart is harder than it looks.
Will the demure Nicole ever be the same after working with Dex, learning to dance, and making both men fall for her?
Disco Bar is a full-length, poly romance with an HEA for everyone. Boogie down!
Thank you Author Agency and Tori Ross for this STELLAR read! I genuinely had the best time reading it!
Disco Bar by Tori Ross Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 Spice: 🌶️🌶️ Series: The Holden Bars #1
This book had me laughing so hard at work. The MC were completely relatable, enjoyable, and authentic. This book was an amazing breath of fresh air.
There is a part of Nicole in every single woman out there once upon a time ago and maybe even currently. She’s naive, oblivious, very sweet, inexperienced, and just trying to have a good time with the girls. The experience she had at the bar the first time with Dex had me trying to catch my breath of pure laughter. The getting ready with the girls and hyping Nicole up to get out there and meet someone brought back fun night memories with friends.
This book is set in the 70’s. Imagine disco ball, lights, Saturday night fever, that 70’s show, the shag carpet, the velvet couches, and can’t forget cocaine. It’s slightly embarrassing how much I’m obsessed with this era, I swear I lived a past life in the 70’s. Dex and Felix are co-workers, roommates, dance instructors, and maybe other things… They immediately fit so well in this book. They just exude the 70’s lifestyle of love and drugs, quite literally.
If you’re thinking this must be a MMF, well then you guessed right. I’m obsessed with this dynamic and I’m obsessed with Dex, Felix, and Nicole. Give this a try if you’re a 70’s loving girl like me.
Tropes: MMF Disco Love and drugs VIRRRGIN trope First time for everything Double dipping 😉 Poly romance
i’m really sad, I was very excited for this book but it fell so flat for me. this book wasn’t terrible but I also didn’t love it. i’m definitely in the minority here. I wish the switch up from Felix hating Nicole to loving her wasn’t as rushed. It to me just felt forced. I enjoyed Felix and Dex and then Dex and Nicole together and the storyline was enjoyable with the dance competition
Wow! I absolutely loved this book. Amazing characters and wonderful plot. Very beautifully written and easy to read.
Nicole Tate was just fired from her teaching job. To cheer her up, her roommate, Tima, is going to bring her along with her and her friend, Miriam, to the disco bar. But before that, Nicole needs a makeover. From mousy little thing, she became a gorgeous bombshell. Still very shy though. At the bar she was quickly abandoned and she got to the bar area to get herself a drink. There was so many people and she didn’t know what to do.
A very handsome man approached her. Dex Holden. The owner of the Holden Dance Studio. Very well known and respected in this disco bar. They got to talking and they immediately clicked. They danced and he too her to his home, to interview her for a job as a receptionist in his studio.
Dex has a roommate and a partner, Felix. He’s the head trainer at the studio. But they are more than friends or coworkers, they are lovers. They’ve been looking for a while now for a third person to add to their lives. Mainly woman, because they both want children. Dex convinced that Nicole is what they both need. They have an eye opening night for Nicole, and she assumes that she is never going to see either of them, let alone get the job. But Dex called her the next day and got her to see the studio. Felix wasn’t too happy about that. He doesn’t think that Nicole is the one for them. Later, Dex discloses to Nicole a reason why he approached her at the bar. In three months there is going to be a dance competition and he wants her to be his partner. She reluctantly agrees and they start training. But Felix is always scowling and being mean to Nicole. Can Felix overcome his jealousy and give Nicole a chance? Or Nicole’s and Dex’s relationship will crumble under the disdain from Felix. I loved the chemistry and passion between all of them. They fit each other perfectly.
I especially want to thank author for being so accurate and creative with the timeline of the story. I wasn’t born until 2001, so for me 1978 is a foreign concept, but I felt like I’ve lived these years along with the main characters. Well done!
Overall I loved this book very much and can’t wait for Josi’s story. If you’re looking for a MMF, forbidden romance then you’re going to love it.
This book was so freaking hot and I loved it all, the storyline, setting , the writing style 🤩. It’s not a very long book so I read it in no time as I couldn’t stop turning the pages. 😍
This was my first time reading a romance book set in the 70s and I loved it. Think studio 54, disco balls, sparkles , feathered / ironed hair , bell bottoms and hot men with mustaches . It was nostalgic and I enjoyed it more as it was a different time so many things back then differ from now such as women’s rights, gay rights, disco/club scene etc. which the author covers at the start of the book in her intro to set the pace.
The characters were memorable but for me it was all about Felix OMG. I loved his character, he was so territorial & feisty I could almost imagine him clicking his fingers, rolling his eyes and telling Nicole to stay in her lane , he got there first 😂.
I enjoyed this take on the MMF trope as it delves more into the emotions of such relationships when a new partner is added in , it’s not all happy happy joy joy and non stop ridiculous banging. You get the emotional aspect of what goes through one partners mind , how do they adjust and all the different moods and feelings they evoke.
The spice in this book holy moly , fan me & hose me down while I re read those chapters again 🥵🚿 it was hot & durty 🫠😮💨
✨Contemporary romance ✨MMF 🕺🏻🕺💃 ✨Spicy 🥵 ✨Set in the 70s🪩🪩 ✨Open door romance ✨Alpha /Grumpy/Sunshine ✨They teach her
I received an ARC of this book . All reviews and comments are in my own words and of my own views and opinions.
**Disco Bar by Tori Ross: A Deep Dive into 1970s Romance and Liberation**
Wow, what a ride! I RARELY give 5 stars, but this one caught me off guard. "Disco Bar" by Tori Ross is more than just a romance—it's an emotional journey through 1978 Chicago, a time of significant change and liberation for women. 🌟
Nicole Tate, recently jobless and alone in Chicago, decides to embrace the city's vibrant nightlife. Her encounter with Dex Holden, the charismatic owner of a dance studio, and his smoldering partner Felix, pulls her into a whirlwind of passion and self-discovery. Their dynamic, a nascent polyamorous relationship, is portrayed with sensitivity, reflecting the era's evolving social norms.
Nicole's transformation from a demure, small-town girl into a confident woman is a testament to the shifting roles of women in the 70s. The backdrop of the Equal Credit Act of 1974, which allowed women financial independence, adds depth to her story. Nicole's journey to assert her worth and navigate the complexities of her relationship with Dex and Felix is truly inspiring.
The dance contest subplot adds excitement and symbolizes Nicole’s fight for recognition and self-expression. The portrayal of the challenges faced by same-sex and polyamorous couples during the 70s adds realism and poignancy to the story.
"Disco Bar" is a celebration of personal and social liberation, brimming with passion and drama. Tori Ross has crafted a masterpiece that’s not just a romance but a powerful ode to the spirit of the 70s. Don’t miss out on this boogie-down blast from the past! 🎶🕺💃
If you're looking for a book that combines steamy romance, historical depth, and a narrative of personal growth and liberation, "Disco Bar" is a must-read. Nicole’s journey will stay with you long after the last page.
This story truly feels like you were transported into a different decade, the 70’s to be exact!
The vibes, setting, and characters truly feel like you are in the age of bell bottoms and disco!
Nicole is the sweetest FMC ever. She is shy, naive, and longs to break free from from her rigid views. She longs to branch out to experience what more that life has to offer outside of her bubble. She meets Dex at the dance club, and they hit it off immediately. I loved their chemistry and how much Dex truly cared about her. He was so supportive and sweet with her, just a perfect partner all around.
Dex is immediately drawn to Nicole and feels like she would be the perfect woman to add to his relationship with Felix. They have discussed bringing a woman into their dynamic, but have struggled to find someone that fits them both. Felix is determined that Nicole is not right for them and tries everything he can to keep her from feeling welcomed into the relationship.
I loved the way their dynamic as a threesome evolved through out the book, and how Felix and Nicole’s relationship changed. It was such a fun read; with plenty of banter & spice! The ending was just perfection!! Such beautiful and perfect HEA for their little family.
If you’re looking for an amazing MMF romance, with a virgin FMC, two alpha MMC’s, lots of firsts all set in the 70’s this book is just right for you!
Thank you so much to the Author Agency and Tori Ross for the early copy
I knew I would adore this book right from the author’s note, reminding us what life was like in 1978. I was all for it. The description of clothing and decor and fabrics and texture and fashion. Even sounds - squeaking on vinyl kitchen chairs anyone???
In my mind, it was like Three’s Company. Except it was hers and his and his. The set of that show was Felix and Dex’s apartment and I will not be hearing any arguments to the contrary.
Dex was described as looking like the man with the mustache from that car movie. Young Burt Reynolds, noted. The pop culture references of the times were on point.
I’m trying to draw a comparison to explain the disco club scene…..Boogie Nights maybe?? But not exactly…. I’ve never seen Saturday Night Fever so can’t knowledgeably compare.
And there were elements of Dirty Dancing here too - a dance teacher and a young small town virgin? Needing to teach her how to dance for a dance contest? It was an effective way to have the more fraught relationship of Nicole and Felix develop and change.
All told, it was a quick and interesting read. I enjoyed the period piece, though I am having a hard time considering it a historical. How can it be that when it’s set during my lifetime??? This story demonstrated polyamory at a time when it was really taboo. It demonstrates that even though so much progress has been made since then, there are parts of society that haven’t changed at all.
I’m now anxiously awaiting the next book in the series, following Dex, Felix and Nicole’s daughter in the 2002 Chicago club scene! If I thought I could relate to 1978, I can’t wait for 2002.
What an amazing story! Nicole, Dex, and Felix's story is tender, frustrating, and perfect.
Set in the 70s during the DISCO hayday, Nicole, a small town girl, finds herself jobless and in the big city with no friends or family. When her roommate makes her go out to the Disco Bar, Nicole's life will never be the same.
Dex and Felix have wanted a partner to share their love with, and Nicole fits the bill in Dexs mind instantly, but can Felix be convinced, or will this careful dance destroy them?
I could not put this book down! The characters are so real, and the multiple point of view give you so much insight not just into their minds and motivations but the struggles of sexuality in that era.
This book got me! I devoured Disco Bar so fast I thought it must have been a novella because I just lost track of time till it was over. Tori did a beautiful job bringing out the 70s in this book. Oh how I wish I was alive during this time just to experience disco in its true form.
Nicole, Dex and Felix are epic. They are 3 opposite sides of a triangle that fit perfectly together. Nicole is innocent and shy till she met Dex, while Dex is carefree and happy. Felix may be the grumpy to Dex’s sunshine but when Felix loves someone he loves hard. Dex and Nicole instantly hit it off. They connected in a way like fate put her there in his life for a reason. Felix irritated me at first though. He was not very open to the idea just because she was to innocent but the heart will always surprise you.
I honestly loved this poly relationship. The character growth throughout the book was spot on and the attention to details was fantastic. Please remember while reading this that the 70s weren’t so open about poly relationships and gay/bi/lesbian sexualities. It was a different time but please check trigger and content warnings before reading.
Disco Bar is the 1st book in The Holden Bars series. This novel is set in 1978 which is what drew me in as its a completely different time from what we're used too. I really enjoyed it. The characters were well developed, the story was evenly paced and the author did a fantastic job describing this era, I felt I was there.
This is a polygamous tale that follows Dex and Felix (secret lovers) who live and work together and talked about one day bringing a third into their relationship.
Nicole, a small town, sheltered girl finds herself jobless in the city so her roommate forces her to go to a Disco Bar to relax. There she met Dex who is immediately taken with her. She's very sweet, but naive and inexperienced and although he thinks she'll be a perfect third, Felix isn't too impressed. What follows is Nicole's journey of self discovery and passion as she navigates the complexities of her relationship with Dex and her struggles with Felix.
The story was an enjoyable one, that had me fully engrossed and highly entertained. It gave us scorching hott MMF scenes, laugh out loud humor, drama, acceptance and personal growth. It was a fantastic read and I would definitely recommend it.
The smut is smutting. Let’s just start there. It’s a good story AND It’s full of the good stuff. 2 men and 1 woman….🥵. It was absolutely filthy in the best way possible.
This story is set back in the 70’s and I wasn’t sure if I would like it but I absolutely loved it. It added this forbidden trope element to it and I just felt so naughty 🤣.
Nicole is let go from her teaching job for not being enough…which was probably an issue for women in the 70’s. The night she’s let go from her job she goes out and meets, Dex. Dex is sexy and powerful….and is quite taken by Nicole from the get go. Nicole goes home with Dex because he has a job for her … but also because Nicole wants to be bad at least for one night. Nicole meets Dex’s roommate Felix and let’s just say things get heated.
Without giving away too much there’s some angst, there’s some MMF, there is double pen, forbiddenness…and so much more. I absolutely loved this read! Tori is a new to me author and I look forward to more of her writing!
This was such a unique read for me. First of all because it is set in 1978! So the MMF nature of the book is very forbidden. And, it's all about disco dancing! The main character Dex is a dance instructor. He meets mousy, shy Nicole in a club and offers her a secretarial job at his dance studio as well as a relationship. Nicole soon realizes that Dex is also in a committed relationship with Felix but they are looking to add a third to their poly relationship. Felix is very resistant to the innocent shy Nicole and also a little jealous of her connection with Dex. Will this relationship dynamic be able to work? If you're looking for something different to read and are into the MMF storyline, I highly recommend this book. The characters are well developed and it was very interesting for me to read a book that is set in the 70's.
ARC review OMG! This book set in 1976 is such an amazing story of love, friendship and polygamy that were taboo during that time! The struggle, the sacrifice in this story makes me happy to be living in this era that has developed ALOT since then (that generation) highly recommended 🩶
I enjoyed listening to this love triangle. The author showed love can be found in more than the usual couple. Dex, Felix and Nicole complete each other to find their HEA. Felix had major doubts about Nicole to stand in his own way. The narrators did a fantastic job.
This brought back so many memories of my club hopping days; it was a treat. The main character, Nicole, was so innocent; and it was adorable and so relatable. Then there was Dex, whom I adored. He was so caring and lovable, and I totally could see how Felix and Nicole fell for him. Now, Felix, it had taken a bit for me to like him, but once I did, omg, I loved him. His antics were the best, and diva would describe him best, in my opinion. Now, this story was set in the 70s, which I absolutely loved, and really, I couldn't picture it taking place in any other era. One could really feel the atmosphere and really get into the feel of it all. The storyline flowed effortlessly while grabbing one's attention. I would recommend you give this a read if you're looking for a poly-70s romance.
I'll be honest, I chose to apply for this ARC 87% based on the gorgeous cover. ;) But what I found inside was even more gorgeous.
Tori painted a beautiful picture of life in the late 1970s disco era. Having been born in December of 1975 myself, I wasn't "in" this scene but I grew up knowing about it -- and Tori did it such justice. From details like names of shampoo and hairspray to the style and makeup of the day -- she nailed the nuanced bits.
Our main characters, Nicole (shy, inexperienced, sheltered 23-year old new to Chicago), Dex (dance studio owner and Chicago club fixture) and Felix (Dex's partner, fellow dancer) are all so well-developed. I was sucked right into this story of polyamorous, bisexual love. The spicy moments (including when Nicole loses her virginity to both men) had me fanning my face. But it was the moments watching Dex and Nicole's love grow readily - and Felix's acceptance and love of her move far more slowly and reluctantly - that really grabbed my heart.
This was an emotional read on so many levels. Remembering the limitations of the time (women's rights, same sex relationships, etc.) broke my heart as I read this story. I shed a few tears. But in the end, my heart was full as our triangle of love got their HEA. I can't wait to read what comes next!
Thanks to Tori and the Author Agency for the chance to read this special book!
Disco may be gone, but it impacted many lives and started conversations about social norms. I loved the romance that Tori Ross developed between Nicole, Dex, and Felix. The emotions, the logistics, and the intensity of a MMF relationship are detailed exquisitely. Nicole, a shy repressed virgin, is mesmerizing to Dex and he wants to be her partner. Felix is Dex’s other half, they love each other, but he’s not sold on Nicole. This is a beautifully written story, the intimacy is very spicy and naughty, and the love that they work for is palpable! I loved the setting: times have changed, but love doesn’t!!.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Set in the 1970s, this is set during the height of disco, feathered hair and sexual awakening across the western world and it was so much fun.
As a reader in the modern day, in a position where LGBTQ+ lives are more welcomed and supported than not (and I realise that’s rare still), it’s easy to forget this hasn’t been accepted for far longer than it has. The three characters, Nicole, Dex and Felix *eventually* form a bond that’s different to everyone else’s. It’s centred around Nicole helping them out with a dance contest as a novice dancer.
For the speed in which Dex and Nicole fall for each other, I expected to read some of the little things they love about each other, do for each other. There’s a lot of Dex buying things for her, which is lovely and I know she’s doing them a huge favour… but I just don’t know what other ways love was shown. I needed more love languages I guess. Felix’s journey to love felt realistic whereas Dex’s felt dreamy and I love them both. It was something we don’t always get in a book.
This book brought me a story and experience I haven’t read before and I’m glad to have read it!

Title: Disco Bar Author: Tori Ross My format: eBook 📱#ARC Spice level: 3.5 Feels: 🥹😂🫠 Tropes: 🪩MMF 🕺Disco dancing / clubs 🪩Love and drugs 🕺Virgin trope 🪩First time for everything 🕺Double dipping 😉
This book somehow managed to remain lighthearted and yet still deal with some of the bigotry and crap that queer people had to deal with in the 70s (and even today!)
This MMF poly romance was a mixture of, established relationship, slow burn and quick burn (don’t ask me how, but it did. And done well too! You’ll just have to read it to understand 😏)
It was a super fun read and I definitely recommend.
Th@nks to: @theauthor.agency for providing this copy.
**These are my honest thoughts that I have provided voluntarily.
This was my first read by Tori Ross and I enjoyed it. It was written well and the detail used throughout the book helps place you in the time and mindset of the characters. I can't imagine that in the year 2024, it would be too easy to write a book based in the 70s. I enjoyed the general story, but I did feel it was just the surface. 2 of the 3 main characters' backstories was detailed to provide more insight into why they have behaved the way they did, but why did Felix act the way he did? Or maybe that's just me wanting more of this third main character! Overall, I enjoyed how the story wrapped up, not leaving anything to question, but still wanting more from the characters.
Disco Bar is a fun, 1970’s disco themed MMF romance with so many things that were throwing me back to that time. Dex, Felix, and Nicole make one unlikely pair for the time period and they definitely have their struggles in finding their HEA.
🪩MMF romance 🪩Age gap 🪩1970’s disco themed 🪩Polyamory relationship (forbidden)
Dex and Felix are already an established, though secret, couple. And they are looking for a third to join their relationship.
While one of the men opens Nicole with open arms, the other struggles with the new dynamics and Nicole herself. The author throws us back into a time when gay and bisexuality was extremely forbidden and not able to be out in the open.
I loved seeing this and how these characters dealt with those struggles, even though none of them really let it bring them down! These characters all brought different things to the table when it came to their relationship and I felt that was so important for them in finding their HEA.
Looking forward to reading more by Tori Ross in the future!
Set against the vibrant backdrop of the 1970s disco era, this book was an absolute joy to read. Nicole, a small-town girl who finds herself jobless and in a tough spot, is persuaded by her roommate to go out for a night on the town—a decision that will change her life forever.
Dex and Felix, secretly in a relationship, are searching for someone to join them. When Dex meets Nicole at Disco bar, he is instantly captivated by her. While Dex is convinced Nicole is the perfect addition, Felix has a harder time adjusting to the new dynamic.
Set in a time when gay and bisexual identities were heavily stigmatized, the book masterfully explores how these characters navigate their struggles. Each character brings a unique flair to the relationship, and the HEA ending is perfectly satisfying.
Oh my, I loved this book so much, I loved everything about this book. It was so much fun! So nice that this takes place in a completely different time than now, everything is so well described it was like we are really living in the 70's. The characters are so well developed that it really is as if you really know them. And Dex… Dex really was everything, a dream partner.
This book made me very happy, it was a very good read, the pace was amazing, the story great and the love fantastic. I read it with a very big smile on my face. I loved the plot and the HEA! Great job Tori, can’t wait to read Josi’s story!
OMG! I’m not sure what I thought I was going to get when I started this book, but it wasn’t the feeling of waking up in the ‘70s that permeated my mind. Guess what…I was here for EVERYTHING this story wanted to give me! I loved the push & pull of emotions that radiated throughout this story thanks to Nicole, our FMC, and her meeting with Dex, one of our MMCs, at the Disco Bar & his feeling that she could be just what he & his secret (it was the 70s 🤷🏻♀️) partner Felix are looking for. I always felt like I was on the edge of my seat. The characters emotions were almost that tangible thanks to the fantastic storytelling. I felt every laugh (believe me, there were QUITE a few of those…thank you Nicole 👏🏻😂), all the chemistry, the tension (yeah, you know I’m looking at your stubborn 🍑 Felix 👀🙄), the passion 🫣🥵🔥, and all set in a backdrop during a time when their possible relationship wasn’t even remotely acceptable (not just as a polyamorous group, but especially for Dex & Felix). I truly enjoyed taking a trip back in time, and letting myself imagine what people were possibly experiencing with how the world was back then. I’m so thankful that this was a multi-POV story because I think it added so much depth to the emotions we were able to feel. It definitely made a deeper impact in my opinion. I didn’t quite expect this story to hit as hard as it did, but not only did it deliver an extremely satisfying & steamy romance (the final chapter was PERFECTION…or as close as it could get), it also truly made me appreciate how far our society has come (although it still has so far it needs to go). Whether you love the 70s or not, you’ll wanna grab this if you’re into MMF stories with plenty of passion, humor & heart. I can’t wait for Josi’s story next ❤️
🪩1970’s Disco Themed 🕺Poly Romance 🪩MMF Romance 🕺Bisexual Romance 🪩Age Gap 🕺Instalove 🪩Enemies to lovers
Disco Bar sucked me in from the beginning. It takes place in 1978. She tells us in the beginning to keep in mind a few things regarding how poly relationships were looked at back then, same sex marriages were not allowed, and girls knew their “place” in society.
Dex and Felix are partners and have been for years. They both want marriage and kids but it’s not allowed. They are looking for a third for their relationship.
Nicole is a “good girl” from a small town. She’s always been told how she should act, talk, and sex is definitely not a thing before marriage. When her roommate takes her to a bar one night and Dex Holden walks into her life, everything begins to change for her.
Dex invites her into their life and they are an “instalove” couple. Felix on the other hand, is not very welcoming of Nicole. At times I wanted to punch him in the face 😂.
I loved watching how everyone battled within themselves and how the characters developed and overcame their struggles. Also, let’s not forget the SPICE!! Omg! The spice was spicing y’all! 🥵
Check your triggers and content warnings and add this to the top of your TBR!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.
Welcome back to 1970. I had the best time going backwards. This is a disco themed romance about Dex, Felix, and Nicole. Dex and Felix are in a relationship already. However, they are looking to spice things up a little bit. When they meet Nicole things are not as perfect as you would think they are going to be. There is a lot of push and pull in this book and some moments that I really love. I cannot even imagine what trying to have a relationship like this in the seventies was like. Nicole is a small town girl who really grows in this book. She finds herself and the confidence in a time when things were really changing for women in the world. Dex is the owner of a dance studio and when these two first meet they like each other but she never could have guessed where it would lead. . She also meets his partner at the same time Felix however is the one that really is into Nicole and this sets the dynamic for things that are to come. However I loved these guys they are really great characters and it is a steamy read for sure.
This was a different but great read for me. I don't normally go for non-contemporary books, but the tropes of this one hooked me in, and I'm glad that I read it. It's a fun read whilst also dealing with some very sensitive (and potentially harmful) topics - more so ones that were more prevalent back in the 70's, but unfortunately some that us queers are still dealing with today.
The character development of Nicole, Dex and Felix was amazing, and the combinations of speeds at which all the relationships took place was amazing. There were moments of laughter, of frustration, of sheer joy and of pure struggle, but for these three, it was honestly perfect.
This was a fun read from a new-to-me author, which I definitely recommend reading.
Thank you to the author and @theauthor.agency for the eARC opportunity. These are my honest thoughts that I have provided voluntarily.
This book is set in the 70s disco era. Nicole is from a sheltered home and is now living in Chicago. She just lost her job at a conservative religious school and let her roommate talk her into going to the bar to cheer her up. She meets Dex and they immediately have a connection. The only problem is Dex is already in a relationship with Felix, and while they have talked about bringing a woman into their relationship, Felix doesn't connect with Nicole like Dex does. Nicole ends up working for Dex and Felix at their dance studio and they have to decide if they can make a relationship work with all three of them.
I enjoyed the relationship between Dex and Nicole and the one between Dex and Felix but the one between Felix and Nicole felt forced. There was a lot of potential there because I love a good "enemies to lovers" trope but this one felt very forced especially when they finally worked it out.
I would recommend this one but you would need to like the 70s era in books to get the most out of this one I think.
Tori Ross is an incredible writer. She's written romcom, contemporary, paranormal, romantic suspense, and now poly romance set in 1978 with Disco bar. Every book she writes is an immersive experience and one I cannot put down until the last page (when I unfortunately have to), and Disco bar is no exception.
I was immediately transported to Chicago in the seventies and the lives of Nicole, Dex and Felix, seeing how their lives and romance plays out in a very different world to the one we live in today.
The story unfolded perfectly, with twists and turns and beautiful character development. Nicole, Dex and Felix were complex and perfectly drawn. I totally understood their motivations, and watching them grow and adapt throughout the book was a journey I loved every second of. Disco bar is a phenomenal book with Tori's trademark steam, drama and heart. Go read it now!
The cover caught my attention (really liked it) and then I read the blurb. The character interactions and the descriptions were interesting so I picked it up to read.
Then I read way too late when I should have been asleep plus, before I fell asleep, I was thinking of my first grown-up job and began to remember some of the interactions that I had but from my current perspective and was like ooooooh. Ha!
Finished by taking an extra long lunch break....ooops (sorry, not sorry)
I truly enjoyed this book and the growing relationship. It made me happy. Even the jealousy wasn't so terrible that I couldn't read it. Everything made sense. The humor was much appreciated.
