Peirce writes the comic strip "Big Nate". Peirce's comic strip, Big Nate, is featured as an island on the famous children's website, Poptropica. Big Nate appears as the first cartoon on The Maine Sunday Telegram in the comics section.
He studied art at Colby College in Maine were he began cartooning. He also studied at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture before teaching art and coaching basketball at a New York highschool for 3 years. He currently plays hockey with "an old men's league" and describes it as his best sport as a child. In an interview with the Washington Post, Peirce stated that his last name is pronounced "purse" and is not a misspelling of "pierce."
Lincoln Peirce was a member of the "Surviving as a Print Cartoonist" Panel at the Maine Comics Art Festival with fellow cartoonists Corey Pandolph (Barkeater Lake, Toby: Robot Satan, The Elderberries), Norm Feuri (Retail, Gill) and with Mike Lynch moderating. On the panel Lincoln revealed he is currently working with some animation and licensing projects including the addition of a Big Nate island to the online game Poptropica.

If your kids like comic strip characters for a quick fun read, then Big Nate will work just right. A great character for boys who don't necessarily want to have their nose in a typical chapter books. As Nate prepares for another ambitious school year, he fondly refers to school as the “Chamber of Horrors,” he begins by trying to find a replacement pair of lucky socks. His old pair are stinky and falling apart from lack of washing. Once in class, Nate is finding that not much has changed. He still has bad luck, he gets on his teachers nerves and some fellow classmates still think he is a jerk and have no problem expressing it.
Nate's laughable point of view will have kids chuckling about his brand of luck and interaction at school. Throughout the pages kids will enjoy his various guides for school “Do's and Don'ts” and “Survive or Else” and “Faculty Interviews” and there are plenty more.

Big Nate Makes the Grade by Lincoln Peirce is about a 6th grade student named Nate Wright who is one of the students who upset the teachers, gets horrible grades, is annoying, and is weird. Big Nate has three enemies which are Gina, Artur, and Mrs. Godfrey. He has been through some rough times at school with at least 4 detentions everyday of the school year. Ever since the school year started he has been pulling off pranks on all the teachers and sometimes the students. He has his secret crush on this girl named Jenny but, the only thing in his way is Artur a French boy who is goody two shoes. Also this girl in his class that sits next to him is named Gina and gets perfect grades and always does her homework on time and does extra credit. Mrs. Godfrey is the worst teacher he ever had and they hate each others guts.
I recommend this book to any one who likes to read about kids who think that they are better than everyone else. I rate this book a 4 star because Nate thinks he is better than everyone else which makes me think that he doesn't care about what people say about him.

Sixth grader Nate Wright can do no wrong in the eyes of his classmates who delight in his antics and inability to stay out of the principal's office. Even when he does his homework, he manages to mangle it, creating a Protest Haiku or one denigrating his social studies teacher, the stalwart Mrs. Godfrey. This graphic novel--a collection of various comic strips following Nate's adventures at P.S. 38--depicts middle school hijinks perfectly. The author/illustrator has created an exceptionally annoying academic in Gina and a loyal but long-suffering friend in Nate's friend Francis. The scenes in which he opens his garbage-stuffed locker to get rid of bothersome individuals or search for treasure are hilarious, partly because there is so much junk spilling out. Middle grade readers will love the student-faculty basketball game and Nate's chess matches. Although it's too bad he can't bring that same focus to the classroom, it's probably a good thing since his fans have a chance to enjoy the problems he causes.

I would recommend this book to anyone in range of 4th to 9th grade. The book description said that he got better grades than Gina and he did not. So only for that reason do I take away a star from my rating. It really shows what Nate thinks of school,girls,teachers,and homework. I really enjoyed this book and will probably get another one in the series. In the book Big Nate Gets the Grade you see how funny Nate is, see him get detention, trick the school secretary and more! I recommend this book to all who wish to laugh and follow a 6th grader through his journey in middle school.

I really Didn't find Nate getting a better grade then Gina but i still think this book is really funny! In one part Francis had a bully that wanted money from Francis but Nate said "I have some money in my locker."
and he opened his locker and a bunch of stuff came out and blew the bully
away. Also he looked for his homework in his locker and with a bunch of stuff he got scuba diving gear and went under all the stuff and Nate had blood stains on his paper from his paper cut. I just really loved this book because its really funny!

I think at the book and the series is good. The only problem that II do not like about it, is that it has no real story line, but some books do have it, in the series. Other than that one problem, i think that this was a well made book. I like these types of comic books, but i would prefer a story line in it aswell.

This was a fun book not very fun but it was fun. This book is about a trouble maker named Nate. He has two friends named Teddy, Francis. He always has a competition with Gina and Nate hates her. He is always trying to be better than her. Nate has a history teacher named Mrs.Godfrey who he hates and always gets detentions from her. She is also bothered by Nate. Nate gets nightmares about Mrs.Godfrey. I recommend this book to boys girls can read but more boys would enjoy this because of the maturity.

At first I thought this was going to be a book about how Nate gets a better grade than the smartest kid but I guest not. But either way like the other the book this is a good book and I like it just as much as tacos. Big gets my 5 stars.

Text to self: The character Nate in this book reminds me of when I was in middle school. I never wanted to make mischief, it was just so easy to do! Nate sure makes a lot of trouble, too. Like him, I spent a lot of time in detention. It seemed like no matter how hard I tried to be good I was always getting in trouble. Teachers pet Gina sure seems to show him up a lot too!

Class Clown Academy takes budding class clowns and gives them all the tips and tricks for being the best class clown they can be. Maybe Nate would get to experience what it is to be the teachers pet, just like Gina!
