Reading this book only made me love Sarah Ophelia Colley that much more. Although this story is written well before Minnie's death, it gives a complete look at Sarah's childhood and the story of how Minnie really came to be. Her philosophy about life in general was fascinating and most impressive was the way she was able to keep her feet grounded in the midst of her popularity and success. She tells her story as the true down-to-earth gal I believe she was, which makes this reading all the more enjoyable. Country music fans will have a special appreciation for this book, but everyone really should read it because we need Sarah Ophelia Colleys in the world more than ever today.

I was so surprised to find out the facts of this famous ladys life. From a precocious child who yearned to be an actress, to the stage of the Grand Ole Opry Sarah Ophelia Colley Cannon, aka Minnie Pearl, became one of the most loved, recognized and respected comedienne in the world. Brought up in a genteel household in the days when life was simpler, Sarah and her sisters had an idyllic life. When the Great Depression hit that life changed monetarily, but the house was always filled with love. This book is about a strong family with good values, who remained close, even when the children were gone. I found the book fascinating as Minnie Pearl told it all, from her growing up years, her thoughts that she was ugly, her dreams of Broadway smashed to smithereens, and her journey to becoming something totally different. I think whether or not you are a country music fan you'll enjoy reading this. Very well written and full of facts and pictures.

If your a country music fan you should read this book. I remember watching Minnie on the Hee Haw show with my dad and she was always so funny. But to hear her dreams and how she was brought up is just fascinating. This is how all country music celebrities should act, some have alot to learn from the old timers...Grinder's Switch would be so proud of her...

This is a wonderful bio of the lady who became Minnie Pearl, & entertained audiences on The Grand Ole Opry for 40+ years. Since this was written in 1980 well before Minnie's death, it's not complete but gives a fascinating glimpse into Minnie's early life & development along with a glimpse into the early days of Country Music & The Grand Ole Opry.

Life was so simple growing up 100 years ago. Playing outside and no electronics. I wonder if all we have now is worth it.

What a great book about a great lady. I never got to see her perform at the Opry, wish I would have. She led a very interesting life.
