Hello. I'm Brenda Hill, a California-based author, writing coach, and L. Cooper Press CEO.
I love things that go bump in the night whether they're serial killers or other strange creatures. I've written about those pesky people who intrude on our lives with deadly force - Ten Times Guilty, With Full Malice. I'm still writing about those pesky people/creatures who intrude on our lives, but this time they're in a bit different form.
The House on Serpent Lake is a ghost/love story - with a twist.
Terrific plots for all 3 books ruined by graphic sex, cussing (including using Jesus' Name in vain). Too bad, lots of info would have been useful in avoiding these life-threatening situations.
This is the first time reading this author. Full Malice really kept my interest and had a few things I wasn't expecting, although I figured out who was in the Society early on. The vigilante group angle was something a little different than the typical crime thriller.
Ten Times Guilty was very realistic and life like. A single mom trying to take care of her kid with a bad guy after her. She had very real feelings and thoughts after her awful experience. The rapist could have been someone right out of true crime files. Another one that kept my interest and I wanted to keep reading.
Beyond the Quiet also had another realistic woman who watched her life fall apart right in front of her. I didn't care for this one as much because everyone kept telling her she needed to forgive and move on. That's all well and good but it would take time to get past your husband's other life and accept it. Also, forgiving her brother and sister in law would be awfully hard after what they did. There was also a bit too much woe is me until she got her act together. The part with Rick felt unrealistic. I didn't like the ending but it was like real life. Things aren't always roses.
All three stories were of women who had to overcome odds or find an inner strength to carry on. The women were realistic and felt like they could be a neighbor or someone you knew.
What I didn't like was the graphic sex. It normally doesn't bother me but it seemed out of place or too much. Maybe it was just unexpected. There were quite a few grammatical errors or missing words that was a little annoying. I'd recommend this set as long as the reader was aware there was some pretty graphic language and sex involved.
Three stories with the common topic of defending abuse. The first book deals with justice gone wrong and looking for revenge by joining with others who have been wronged as well. The second book questions if it is a wise move to trust the police to defend you or if you had better do it on your own. And the third book is totally ridiculous. A woman who, upon his "perfect" husband's death finds out she has been cheated on and is now bankrupt not knowing where all her savings went. The author advocates forgiveness, turn one's cheek to be slapped on the other. Those saint-like, nun-like people capable of forgiving everything is something I can't stand!!! Who can believe that? So the sillier you are, the better? Come on.
This box set of three book were really good and awesome from all the characters also all the plots. You all should read this book if you like mysteries.
I think each of the books in this boxed set deal with some form of bullying.
As the full title says the books have mystery, suspense, and an element of romance.
With Full Malice:
Madison lived with the torturous deaths of her parents. She grew up with so much fear because of their killer. Even though he was caught and sentenced, she was afraid he would get loose and come after her. One day on her job as a food critic, she came face to face with another murder. Soon after her own family started to act different. Was her grandmother losing her mind, ill, or was there some correlation to the murder at the restaurant? You have to read all the way through to find out.
I enjoyed how the author left a trail of bread crumbs yet the reader did not know for sure who was actually involved with what until the end.
Ten Times Guilty:
Tracy is a single parent on a mission to make a better life for her son. She lives within a few blocks of her job, so walking wasn't an issue. The man who sexually assaulted and then stalked her was. He took what little self-esteem she had and crushed it. Will she find her inner strength and turn in the madman who threatened her son, or will she find a more permanent solution?
I enjoyed the way the author weaved in the facts about how some men bully women in different ways. It also educates about sexual assault.
Beyond The Quiet:
Lisa was full of grieve over the loss of her husband. She had nursed him through a devastating illness. The bills had mounted up. How would she manage? The only thing left was to go back to work. Even this was full of challenges.
This story has many twists and turns. It also has a woman discovering who she was and what she wants to become.
Warning: All the stories are for Mature Audiences due to adult language, violence, and sexual situations.
This was a boxed set. Each book dealt with a different subject and each was well written. With Full Malice deals with vigilanties, Ten Times Guilty deals with the trauma rape victims go through and the last book Beyond the Quiet deals with the loss of a loved one, grief and betrayal. All good books but the last one Beyond The Quiet will pull at your heart strings. All are riveting and intense reads.
Wow! Just wow! I red this set over the weekend. I was consumed. Each story different but each having "life lessons". I loved her style of writing and the different facets of a woman's life the author covered. Can't wait to read more from her.
The editing was poor and there were inconsistencies. The hardware store referred to initially became a different name later. As well nobody with Terry's illness would be able to buy life insurance
