First of all, who allows a stranger who states that he's TAKING the child the heroine just adopted (after fostering for almost two years!) to HOLD THAT CHILD?! He could simply put her on his shoulder and walk out the door. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Second, who allows a stranger who pushes his way into her HOUSE the next day to stay and criticize her living arrangements, financial setting, competence, and abilities? GET THE HECK OUT! You don't let someone like that in your HOUSE! It's not even right. But not only does she get him Cola in a Mickey Mouse cup, but LEAVES THE CHILD with him downstairs to go take care of another baby!!!

The hero claims experience with babies - as in, he changed his sister's diaper when he was five. First, no five year old boy changes a diaper (I know - I had FOUR of them), and no five year old child *REMEMBERS* changing a diaper at five. Ugh, ugh, ugh.

And those aren't the only numbers that don't add up. We're told the hero is five years older than his now-deceased sister. That'd make her 30, had she been alive. The baby is two - she would've been 28 when she had Katie. But the author says his 'kid sister' was in college, and died from a (very convenient) overdose, and he didn't know she was pregnant. But he's a luvving brotha who took care of his little sister. NONE of it adds up. At all.

And that's just the first 15% of the story. Which, btw, is *LEAPT* into so forcefully with no rhyme or reason as to what's going on... it's poor, shoddy writing. The plot isn't developed, it's shoved at the reader with a gauche hand. The ideas aren't woven, they're slammed down in print. It's horrible. Pitiful.

By 22% you have the heroine telling us she learned all she needed to know about mothering by the time she was eight and her mother died. ((!!!)) SERIOUSLY!?!

I went to 50%, and... that was enough. It was ridiculous how fast the author was jamming the story through. No description, no character building, nothing at all good in the universe in this story. Even her 'God' references were banal and pointless, because of the lack of story development.

Pick another book. *ANY* other book.

A novella. Not enough character development, things happened too fast. Not realistic.

Eden has plenty of rooms in the big old Victorian house where she lives alone. She is quite sure she'll never have children if her own, so she decides to become a foster mom. One particular little girl pulls at her haertstrings: Katie, who Eden adopts eventually.
The adoption goes off smoothly, but just as soon as the papers are finalized, Katie's uncle, Josh Leland shows up, determined to adopt Katie himself. As he was working overseas, he had no idea that his sister had died.
Eden refuses to give Katie up, Josh is just as stubborn.
It's a novella that I wish had ben stretched out more. It would have been nice to learn about the backgrounds of the kids Eden is fostering. Some parts feel rushed (well, it IS a novella) and we don't really get to know the characters in that much depth.

The story line seemed really interesting but there wasn't much of a resolution to any of the story lines. It really would have been a much better book if it were longer and more fleshed out. It immediately starts with the heroine meeting the hero but no reason on why she'll "never have children of her own" (pulled from the book description). I enjoyed reading about the foster children but it was so quick you really didn't get much of their back story. The ending was extremely quick and was a little out of blue.

This was a good story, but very short. It could have been fleshed out a lot more by including more of the backgrounds of the children Eden is fostering. I also would have liked to see more of the search for her family.

A great story about a man's deceased sister's child, the woman who adopted the child and foster cares for several other children and the love that developed between all of them. I just wish we could have found out whether Eden ever found her siblings.

Josh had ulterior motives for befriending Eden, but it's safe to say it all back fired. I did like that they had similar interests, and a special knack with children. But honestly, that's about all I liked about this story.

Predictable and too cheesy for me, but still a cute short story! I'd have loved to find out what happened after with her family.
