Rashad Thompson is dating a good man, but he yearns to be with a bad one. When Victor Torres--the DL thug of his fantasies--unexpectedly enters his life, Rashad finds himself caught up in a dangerous game of lies and deceit. As he attempts to juggle two men (one with ulterior motives of his own), things quickly get out of hand. Recklessly playing with fire...will Rashad end up getting burned...or worse? From up-and-coming author, R.K. Write, who brought you "Teacher's Pet," "My Boyfriend's Brother," and "The Breaking Point," comes a thrilling tale of steamy sex and suspense!("Playing with Fire" Pt 2 is also available now!)
Reginald Write is a southern boy with a northern edge! Hailing from GA, he currently resides in NY. He is a versatile (bad pun intended) storyteller whose works feature compelling, complex, and sometimes completely crazy characters from all walks of life, who come in all shades and colors. When he's not binge-watching something on Netflix, he's probably busy working on his latest twisty, turny, thought-provoking tale.
2.5 stars round up again because of that oh so FINE cover!!
Wow! This has got to be one of the most outlandish stories I have ever read. Everything was so over done (the love triangle, the baby mama drama, the cheating, the lying, the sex, the arguments, and the physical fights), nothing seemed real. I guess that's why I couldn't stop laughing my ass off. Am I complaining? I don't think so. I didn't love it, but I was entertained.
I really didn't care for Rashad. He was trifling and tstl. I didn't care for the anti-hero, Victor. He was just a hot mess of epic proportions.
Instead of a gritty, raw read, I got a darkish comedy. I'm okay with that.
This short story is straightforward, dramatic and over the top. It is filled with fights (the physical kind), cheating, gunslinging, baby mama drama, etc. It’s like a hood telenovella (I play 😄). Yet it is SO addicting that I just kept on turning the pages.
I wouldn’t call this romance per se...there was more telling than showing when Vic and Rashad are getting to know each other and catching feelings. Rashad also admits frequently that he has a weakness for bad boys and bounces back and forth between Vic, who he has great sexual chemistry with versus his boyfriend (whose name I’ve forgotten already) who is good on paper, but Rashad has no chemistry with at all.
And who can blame Rashad? I mean, Victor is a 6’2, 205 lb Latino man who can fuck for an hour straight and has mad swag. Who cares if he’s a stick up kid (Rashad doesn’t know this) who sells weed on the side, is quick to grab his gun and has a temper that runs a mile wide? And factor in that Victor is playing Rashad throughout...
This book was definitely an experience. I kinda enjoyed it.
Thug passion. Good lashin'. Doin' you. Ruin me. Secrets told. Secret code. Crazy sexy. Crazy cool. Street cred. Street cruel. Live by. Die by. The truth. The rules.

Gah! I like a little toughness, but this dude was prison thug. Going into rages is not sexy and the fact that Vic was thinking about jacking Rah during the whole read took a lot away from the story. Being that this story was told from both of the characters' point of view, ending up making Rah look like an idiot and Vic an all-out liar and thief. The writing itself was solid, with a few editing errors. Don't know if I'd read anything else by the author if it's all about thugs. It might have had more appeal when I was younger, now it's just dumb.
