Todd Borg and his wife moved from Minnesota to Lake Tahoe in 1990. After his fourth Tahoe novel, he sold his business to write full time.

Todd Borg and his wife live on Lake Tahoe's South Shore.
A lovely, well written novel by Todd Borg. I look enjoyed the practical, efficient and kind hearted Mckenna, the heart broken, but dedicated Rorvik, the down to earth Street and the smart hound Spot. The skiing & the dangers associated with it were portrayed well. The unexpected way in which the off victimized Simone takes charge of her life is heartening.
The book was familiar, too familiar to another one in the series. The pace was snail-esque and then abruptly turned to unbelievable action. This seemed to be an editing recommendation. The writing wasn't bad, but there wasn't consistency.
A really well written mystery novel where I found myself breezing through the book wondering what is going to happen next. I really haven't read much mysteries, but Todd Borg did a great job bringing me into the genre. This is first of the series I have read but it wasn't an issue besides a few of the character backstories.
I live in Reno and get to work up in Tahoe a few times a week so getting to know the area really made the read fun. I look forward to reading the rest of the series!
Detective Owen McKenna Is not only a believable character, but also very likable. All the character in this book are well done and described extremely well. The scenes are well done. I for one have never been to Lake Tahoe but after reading this book I feel like I have been there. The author does a wonderful job that interweaves the plot throughout the story till you reach the ending. This is one of the few times I have read a mystery and not known who the murderer was by at least half way through. I was completely caught by surprise when it was finally revealed. I for one will definitely be picking up the authors other Owen McKenna books soon. and I will be recommending them to my friends who love mysteries as well.
I love reading books about an area with which I am familiar, and for many years, my husband and I visited Lake Tahoe every summer to see family. I have read other books in this series, and each stands alone so don't feel intimidated by the fact that it is #11. In this one, Owen McKenna, a former police department detective, and now a private detective is hired by a 92 year old former Olympic medal winner in skiing to investigate his wife' small from the deck of their Lake Tahoe home. Although the police believe it is an accident, he is not convinced. Joe's wife Rell lies in a coma and he is not ready to pull the plug until he gets to the bottom of this. The story line takes us through several deaths ruled accidental and in each case they are somehow either connected to Joe or to Rell. You must read this to learn how, Owen, his dog Spot, and Joe solve the conundrum!
I always love reading Todd Borg books. Growing up I spent my summers in Marla bay as a kid and an adult. I love that many of the places he talks about in Tahoe I have been to many times and can picture clearly in my head. This book all of his books are hard to put down once you get into twist and turns of the story line. I appreciate his Tahoe knowledge . He also referenced Marla bay in one of his books. While reading that reference I was there in my mind. Thank you for your wonderful storys, and wonderful charictors Owen, Street and my favorite Spot.
Owen gets a call from an old man who insists someone tried to murder his wife when she is found having fallen from their deck despite the authorities finding that it was an accident. Although Owen has no evidence of foul play he takes on the case because he is compelled by the man's obvious love for his wife. The other major action in the novel is a woman who is being severely and consistently abused by her boyfriend. Owen wants to save her but he knows that his interference could leave to further violence by the possessive and horrid abuser. Seemingly unrelated, Owen finds a connection between the two cases which leads to danger for everyone.
I've liked some better than others, but this has some very touching things...Owen seeing Rell at the hospital especially. Don't want to tell the ending, but since we have a place next to El Dorado beach, I will always look for flickering lights on the lake. As always, I enjoy learning new things about the Tahoe Basin, a place where we spent many summers and visited in other seasons too. Street, I wish you would wed that crazy Owen. You won't find another guy to love and cherish you more.
I love all of Todd Borg's books....his stories about Owen and Spot! This may have been one of my favorites.
Having been the Director of a non-profit in Douglas County that helped women who had experienced domestic violence, I loved the topic which I felt was handled with an honest perspective both from those who don't understand why a woman stays...and women who can't leave out of fear for their life. It was great to see the "victim" take back her power.
I loved the back story of the Olympian skier and highlighting activities in the Tahoe area of which I was unaware.
This is his 11th book in a series. I always enjoy his books. Good murder mystery story line along with a sideline of a situation which reflects socioeconomic challenges to our society woven into the story. I usually am quite surprised who the murderer is until the end. I actually figured this one out! Always an enjoyable read along with learning the going’s on in and around Lake Tahoe. Great beach or travel read.
Love Owen glad I found him. Exciting writer, I can never guess the ending looking forward to next book. It is cool cuz I can just keep reading about Owen and Street. Do they ever get martied? Being a romantic at heart I hope sio!
I love Owen. Exciting writer is Todd! Can't wait to start next book. Can read them one after the other! I can never guess the ending!
Even though this was the first book I’ve read in the series I thoroughly enjoyed it. Pretty good character development although the previous books in the series probably were more informative. Good storyline and kept my interest in wanting to see what developed. I would definitely recommend it and would read more of this series.
I have enjoyed every one of the books in this series. The way he describes Lake Tahoe makes you want to go there. You get to know the characters so well they seem real.
Always so much action and community involvement in his stories. More art lessons as well as an introduction in origami. Turns and twists... never saw it coming!!
I appreciate reading a book that has interesting characters and a clever plot. This book has those things. I thought I had figured out who the murderer was, only to be proven wrong! I look forward to reading other McKenna mysteries!
I have loved every one of the Tahoe series, and this one is no exception! When I haven't read one of Tom Borg's stories in awhile, I feel like I am missing my friends and need to spend some time catching up with them! (And I do exactly that!)
Tahoe Chase was edge of the seat thrilling and poignant!
Absolutely love this story!! Can’t go wrong with a Todd Borg - Owen McKenna tale! Definitely a masterful story teller!! I cheer for every character! Thank you!
I have so enjoyed your books! I feel like I always learn something in every book & I also appreciate references to all the wonderful places in & around Lake Tahoe that I know & enjoy & other places I want to check out someday.
This is one of Owens best. It is life with its harshness and also with its softness. Always well written and extremely knowing about facts and knowledge of life's ways. Very interesting, and makes you remember who you really are.
I met Todd at a vendor faire in November...bought first 2 books in the Owen series....great stories, love the local angle, good pace...now reading the entire series on my Kindle, just finished #11
Another Owen McKenna book, Chase, that I loved! Kept me reading late into the night, wanting to find out who did it, but not wanting it to end! I love all of the series people!!
Actually read this one - been reading the series because a friend who is very familiar with Tahoe and region recommended - great dog and each in the series has an in depth study of a particular subject. This one did not disappoint but is simply an interesting page turner.
I have witnessed the love between Rell and Joe in my personal life. The courage of Simone is heartwarming. Maybe my favorite Todd Borg book yet. On to the next!
