"The Marquis Who Hated Women"

This was such a silly bit of fluff but it had some fun and pretty moments in it. I probably would have liked it better without so many Cinderella references. Also, as a seamstress, I found it rather ridiculous that the main character could modify complicated evening gowns from an old style to the new style and to her size in the matter of one afternoon. But romance novels aren't meant to be real and it would've been too much for the author to have birds and mice come help her sew a new gown out of draperies.

Another tour de force for a fairy tale.

Yes, another beautiful novel about a turn around of Cinderella.
Although much wordy for the basic plot, it's worth reading.

What I liked best were the details about the gowns from the famous House of Worth--how they were so coveted by women at the time. And the story was set at a time when the crinoline was starting to disappear and the bustle was just coming out as the new look due to Frederick Worth as a trendsetter.

I do agree with Cheryl's review here that it is hard to believe the heroine Odetta can alter couture gowns on her own in a relatively short time. At least she had help from housekeeper Hannah when she copied a Worth design later in the book.

I liked the book

Like all of her books, she writes about believing in God and fate. I like having something happy to think about,so I keep reading her books because they all have happy endings.

Cartland is sometimes a delightfully odd guilty pleasure.
