Pestilence

Rate this book
The bombing of an American Embassy in Africa pulls Special Agent Jack Randall out of his current doghouse status with the FBI and sends him on the trail of one of the worlds most wanted terrorist. While sifting through the debris, his team discovers a mysterious shipment of medications. Medications they soon discover that are valuable enough to kill for. Jack is forced to embark on two missions, catching the terrorist responsible for the bombing and discovering the source of the medications.

The trail leads him from the deserts of Africa, to the Centers for Disease Control, and on to the higher offices of the United States Government. As the team uncovers the true nature and purpose of the medications, Jack is faced with a decades old plot involving secret treaties, biological warfare, and deadly plagues.

This is an FBI, fast moving story about a threat to world security. Hopefully it's only a story because this would be terrifying if it were true. It starts with an attack on an American Embassy in Africa, then moves to the elimination of a terrorist of great value on the FBI hit list. After these accomplishments Jack is tasked with finding the source of an incredible threat to the world. I love this genre.

Read straight after No.1
Got a little far fetched, and not quite as good as the first, but enjoyable all the same.

This book really got me to thinking about a lot of things.

I consider this a mixture of Law Enforcement, International Intrigue, and Medical genres.

Jack Randall and his team are sent to investigate a bombing of a US embassy and discover that there was a lot more going on. Where the trail takes them is pretty scary indeed.

I hope the things inside this book never come to pass. However, it did put me in mind of a few that I read by Mr. Robin Cook that did happen to a degree, that said this story had twists that are unique to Mr. Wood's style.

Warning: There is violence as well as adult language and situations.

Scary read!

Humn...in the middle of covid19 made for an interesting read. Makes one question just what Mr. Wood knows that we don't?? Hah. This is a very well written novel that captivates the reader from the first chapter to the end. There are a plethora novels of ex spec ops heroes turned spies, vigilantes, action heroes etc.Mr. Wood makes Jack very realistic with human foibles as well as strengths reflecting skills representative of expert military training. The plot in this novel ,however, reading from "sheltering at home" certainly made me lookl twice at stories of the origin of this pandemic.

Political Suspense Thriller

Randall Wood is a unique author with an uncanny ability to weave a traditional suspense novel with thought provoking narrative of serious environmental, ecological, and world health issues. While you are gripped by the plot, written in a gripping narrative, your brain is forced to think about global challenges such as overpopulation and biological and chemical warfare.

I couldn’t put this book down. It as riveting from beginning to end.

Really good read

I swear I'll never see migratory birds and vaccines the same ever again. Excellent book with an engaging and believable story line. I've only read two Jack Randall books so far but both have been outstanding. The details, action, and multi dimensional characters make for a really good book. I highly recommend reading them.

I found this to be a better book than the first one in the series. It was tighter, cleaner and more crisply edited- not as heavy as the first one. The writing was good, just like the first book..but I'd really want the lose ends to be tied for me- what exactly was on the CDs that Jack made? And please did they end up finding the vials or not?!

Riveting. Characters are so “real” makes the readers feel he/she is reading actual news accounts. Scary! Recommended for all Trump supporters.

A must read for all doubters. This is so “real” had to keep reminding myself that I was reading a fantastic work of fiction.

Good story and great characters! I liked the first book better though. I was disappointed with my Kindle version because the book ended with 90% left to go. I felt the ending was too rushed.

I began to read this book, and it seemed familiar. Well, by chapter four, I knew I had read it a while ago, like five years ago.
Fairly good book

A little of Michael Crichton, a little John Saul, (or insert your favorite medical thriller author here), a chase scene that reminded me of one of the Die Hard movies, all tied together in a heck of a thriller.

It starts off with an embassy bombing in Tanzania and goes from there. As with Wood's previous novel, Closure, the author keeps the novel moving without bogging down with too many unneeded details. Each chapter is headed by a quote from a news source that does that job for him.

Readers who like face paced books with a plot that is completely believable and possible, give this author a try.

FANTASTIC read, non-stop action at get go.

FANTASTIC read, non-stop action at get go.

Randall Wood gives a great believable story. the plot line is great, especially in today's world. there are a few slow spots going thru what the files contain, but it adds to the terrible nature of what mankind can do. this leaves you wondering if it could not be true in life???

definitely recommend read for anyone wanting a good action read.

look forward to reading more from Mr.Wood.

The cast of characters were mostly the same in this book as the first, the story line was very different which was nice. Makes you wonder if there are FBI agents that lead this type of life. He also writes from the bad guy's perspective which almost makes you want to root for him. I am looking forward to the next book and hoping to find my next series.

The second book in the Jack Randall series, this book follows on from the first in quick succession. It jumps around a bit, and is more unbelievable that the first, but sill a standard action/ crime novel. I didn't feel you had as much "bad guy" development as the first novel, and that altered the story line quite a lot.

A great read

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys thrillers and mysteries with action added in there. Randall Woods Jack Randall series is a great series to get into. I will definitely be reading the rest of the series to see what else Jack and his team get into next time.

A really strong and very believable plotline. Didn't see the twist in the puppeteer, but it made a lot of sense, and is an interesting bargaining chip for the future! Bought the next one and looking forward to it...
