Tutti Frutti is the FIFTH hilariously thrilling novel in the Dev Haskell mystery series. "Lock the door, pour yourself a nice glass of something, and then hang on for a crazy ride with the likes of Dev Haskell and Candi." -Crime Syndicate A DISBARRED ATTORNEY, ILLEGAL GAMBLING, AND A SEXUALLY AGGRESSIVE 'COUGAR.' ACTION AND HILARITY ENSUE. Private Investigator Dev Haskell stumbles into the famed Tutti Frutti in search of an illegal gambling operation. Instead he finds a bondage club run by the mobster D'Angelo brothers, more murder and action than he ever dreamed of, and devilishly compelling Candi. The kind of woman Dev just can't learn to leave alone. In classic form, he just might have been set up ... again. Tutti Frutti, it turns out, is a dangerous way to live... "...one of those wonderfully engaging tales where everything seems so obvious until you realize that you've been had too." -Behind Bars
I was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, I still live there as well as in Dublin, Ireland. I've been a soldier, freelance journalist, tended bar, sold designer cakes, owned a painting and decorating company along with a number of other schemes and scams. If that doesn't offend you I also play bagpipes with the Brian Boru Irish Pipe Band. All my books stand alone, read them in whatever order you wish. They are filled with the sort of oddballs we are all curious about, but wisely, prefer to keep at a distance. None of my characters will be saving the world from terrorism, international banking conspiracies or coups to take over the government. Rather, they inhabit a world just below the surface of polite society, characters with one foot on either side of the law. The circumstances they find themselves in are usually due to bad decisions, but bad decisions lead to interesting stories. They serve not so much as an example but as a warning to us all. Thanks for taking the time, happy reading.
Where do I start with this one? Let me just repeat the same thing I say about Dev –Maybe its just bad luck, maybe he’s just clueless, or maybe its just karma; He is ALWAYS at the wrong place and at the wrong time. And that makes up for humorous situations well not for Dev... :P Dev Haskell is not your typical PI. He has a knack for getting frequently in trouble. In Tutti Frutti he finds himself taking on yet another case that leads him to a bondage club called Tutti Frutti where he meets people that will yet again lead to trouble. With names like Candi Slaughter, Swindle Lawless, Joey Cazzo and the D’Angelos involved; Dev can only hope to get out of this in one piece.
Well let’s just say the Karma gods aren’t that pleased with Dev and that results in a ride that will keep you guessing. And just when you think you’ve got it the author throws in a twist!
Now that is the kind of book that I like. The best part of the book was this; it kept me guessing till the very last page... From the Dev Haskell books that I have already read you can see the development in the characters and get to know them better. For me the series is a fun read and a great way to relax and let out a few laughs (maybe a few snickers too :P ) I suggest you pick up this book if you like PI novels with a bunch of twists thrown in for good measure... ;) Overall a fun read!
I really enjoy reading books that I don't have to take too seriously during these times of upheaval. A body can take just so much politics without having a total meltdown. Devlin Haskell, 'call me Dev,' manages to combine beer, babes and bad luck in very clever ways thanks to the skill of author Mike Faricy in convoluting any and all situations.
TUTTI FRUTTI is the fifth book in the Dev Haskell series; take note… the title does not refer to a flavor of ice cream. It is a club that caters to a clientele with very specific tastes… again, not ice cream. Once more, Dev finds himself in the wrong place at the right time to land in hot water with the police.
Dev's client in this outing is Swindle Lawless… female, blonde, curvy (of course!). The way she becomes his client is nothing but unorthodox. And our feckless womanizer thinks he's in love with an older woman with the unlikely name of Candi Slaughter. I'm starting to notice a pattern in the names in this series and that pattern spells satire. If you read mysteries, you know that there is generally no fat in the telling. Every detail is a clue. Sometimes that clue is a red herring; more often than not, it is worth considering. That makes every name, of every character (particular to the book) a very clever ploy on the part of Mike Faricy. Remember the names that make you laugh!
I'll be moving on now to book six… LAST SHOT. After you read TUTTI FRUTTI, I'm sure you will too.
I started to read this and then put it aside for a while. When I came back to it I found I had forgotten everything about it and so started again. I found it incredibly confusing, with characters I could care less about and the main character was not a person I would want to know. I believe I read a Dev Haskell murder mystery previously and I'm quite sure it wasn't as bad as this one or I wouldn't even have started this. Sorry Amazon, even for a free book, this was a total waste of time!
I’ve read several of Mike Faricy’s books, and enjoyed them all. When he sent me a copy of Tutti Frutti for review, I was happy to do so.
Once again, the loveable train wreck that is Dev Haskell gets himself into another situation that leaves you howling at his antics. He always manages to turn a bad situation into a disaster, and is expert at being in the wrong place at the wrong time. And you can’t help watching! In this one, Dev becomes involved with characters running a slightly kinky nightclub and gets himself spanked, arrested, and suspected as the perp in a couple murders. Business as usual for Dev.
Faricy is a master at coming up with ridiculous scenarios for Dev to bumble into. His stories are tongue-in-cheek dark humor, and highly entertaining quick reads. I’ve often compared him to Robert Parker, and I think each book I’ve read has gotten better. Keep writing, Mike!
Dev can never stay out of trouble no matter how hard he tries. Assigned to help Louie on a case, he finds himself knee-deep with a cougar and the kind of crowd that he never expected to be around when he goes to the Tutti Frutti. Being hired on for this kind of job wasn’t what he planned it to be but he’s going to find out there’s more fun hanging with someone that isn’t his normal attraction. Great read from Mr. Faricy as usual.
You just can't beat any book by Mike Faricy!! I love and look forward to reading his work....when I am too tired to do anything, I find I am never too tired to read about Dev Haskell . So all I can say is, if you haven't tried any of this series, or any of Mike Faricy's work, you are missing a great experience!!!!
Dev is still Dev but he finds a gal' Candi! Is all how it seems and who,s perception is the correct one? Dev has an impossible theory. The police has an easy go-to person of interest. Candi may be on the payroll or some such.... A good read vworth your time! WaAr
Great name Swindle Lawless, any relation to Lucy ? Anyway Dev is up to his neck in it again, paying for a good time he never got on the advice of his lawyer and ending up in the hands of cougar Cindy who is not what she seems. A waitress at the D'Angelo's bondage club she drags him in and he can't get enough until he realises what is really happening. Louie got him involved with Joey Cazzo and the D'Angelos to get him on easy street with a good income but Dev can't just accept the way thing are and finds a way to spoil their plans and Louie's sure thing.
Dev, a PI constantly gets himself into trouble with a capital T. He agrees to help Louie, an attorney and his office partner undercover gambling that’s supposed to be going on at a sleazy nightclub called the Tutti Frutti. Dev falls for a waitress who’s got more going on that meets his eye. Lots of beer drinking with a crazy cast of characters who get Dev in more trouble with the Law. Laugh out loud, can’t put it down type of read.
Tutti Frutti is a decent mind vacation. Dev is pretty much worthless, but the cases always manage to get solved in spite of him. The end of this one is pretty great. I had to go back and re-read the last few paragraphs because the little twist they provided was completely unexpected (but in an expected sort of way). This is a book worth reading if you need a bit of a break.
So far, with other long series, i have lost uneasy long before the fifth in the series. Tutti Frutti is a good book in its own right. Fun, light read. But sure you need to red these in order, but it's what i am doing. Will hit to #6 soon.
I’ve read the Dev Haskell series books from #1. Although Mike Faricy’s writing is proficient and his characters are colorful, the earlier books just didn’t have that illusive aspect that keeps you from putting the book down once you start, that intangible that separates GOOD from GREAT stories. The author found this with his fifth Dev Haskell novel, Tutti Frutti.
Fast paced, ridiculously funny crime stopping adventure
Always an adventure, the Dev Haskell investigations never go smoothly. He does nothing by the book, and it's never his fault when everything turns into a mess. You can't help but like Dev.
Dev is at it again when Louie gets a new client. They want him to check out the agent of a friend. He takes Heidi to a bar called Tutti Frutti and meet Candi. Candi is bad news and Dev ends up in a lot of trouble because of her.
I like the Dev Haskell books, and I really like the Dev Haskell character, and I was really interested in what was going to happen next in this book, when it just suddenly ended. Up until then, I was really enjoying it.
Drinking definitely leads to poor judgement! In this episode, Dev gets spanked, charged with rape and murder, gets tied up and shot at, and gets his house torn apart, again. What's not to love.
Always love reading the adventures of Dev Haskell no one can get in as much trouble as he can with the police women and crooks and survive to solve the crime
This story had lots of twist and turns. This main character Dev can't seem to stay out of trouble. He seems s little simple. Can't wait to read more from this author.
Another zany story with the world’s most hapless P.I. I did notice that the same chapter was in the book twice and figured that was to see if I was paying attention.
This book is about a young man who has had a rough life. Blaze a young man whos father was an abusive, who throw him down the stairs not once but three times. Blaze now is slower in the head and has a very noticeable dent in his forehead. Because he is slow and gullible he gets taken advantage of. Blaze hooks up with a fellow named George who wants to kidnap a wealthy families baby. George dies and Blaze is left alone to pull off the kidnapping himself. This is the story of Blaze and his story. I enjoyed this story.
