This is an awe-inspiring book -- not awe as in 'uplift to your spirit' though. No no no. This is 'THAT WAS SO FUCKED UP and I LOVED THE SHIT OUTTA IT!!!' awe.

Why this book has a special place in my heart now:
*Leonard's Wife reminded me of what I love most about Stephen King's storytelling: Seemingly random introductions of people, places, & things are revealed to be strangely (usually macabrely) integral to the whole plot and character progression. There's also an element of paranormal in LW, but it's not over-exposed. It's just a part of the landscape sort of thing, and it's perfectly blended with the other WTF moments that had me laughing and cringing throughout the book.
* There is Evil, but it's not a cardboard cutout. Not all of the evil is done by evil people or even for evil motives. As crazy as everything is that happens, it's all completely 'understandable' -- and that is soooooo deliciously fucked up!
* The ending. It was perfection. Sure, I could see it coming, but that's not a bad thing to me. It just means that the author did an amazing job of leading me into the hearts and minds of the characters (*shiver* What a dark place to be too!) I knew what I expected to happen, but the suspense was never lessened even when I got what I expected.
* This is haunting me already. I know I'm going to read the rest of the series. That ending...

For my smut friends, I'll warn that this isn't an erotic read. And I'd caution that my love for all of the above might have made me a little lenient on some of the typos, repetition to events, and maladroit plot points. I make no excuses. LW is still going to be one of my faves for a long time. That ending...

Yes! Yes! Yes!

Read this book. The minute I finished this book, I started the next book in the series - Misty's Child!

This story is different, but that's what makes it so good. I live in the rural south, and hope I never run into someone like Lettie!

Wow! This book had me hooked right off the bat. If you like dark, twisted, and scandalous, this series is for you. Nothing is out of bounds! You will get a little bit of everything in this book. Secrets, murder money, and power. Parts were even morbid!! Loved this book and the rest of the series. Skeets Family Trilogy will have you at the edge of your seat! Frieda Dryden did an amazing job!

Well written, but did not like the story at all....its about a little girl being abused by her parents, her incestuously conceived deformed son & her obsession with him & his happiness.
Then enters an angelic choir girl, Misty who is a victim to the need for "Leonard's Wife".

Nicely written, thankfully Lottie and Leonard will always have each other.
