Hello! I'm Kelly Dwyer, and I'm the author of GHOST MOTHER, published by Union Square & Co., August 2024, as well as two other novels. GHOST MOTHER asks the question, "Is the house really haunted? Or is the narrator losing touch with reality?" (After you read the novel, please let me know what you think!)

Many people have questions about God and the afterlife.......fortunately most of us do not have to go through devestating hurt and loss to come to terms with what we know we believe.

This novel is about a well loved girl who is raised by a Catholic Father and Jewish Mother. She believes in Angels and often prays and talks with God. Her Mother passes away from cancer when Laura is only 10 years old. By then Laura has already begun questioning the teachings from both religions. Laura's life changes dramatically and she feels lonley and isolated and drifts and lists badly. Her Father barely notices the dramatic changes in her.

Then Laura's Father is in a terriable accident when Laura is 18 yrs old and becomes a parapalegic. He convincces Laura to help him commit suicide. After his funeral, Laura moves across country to start a new life...but still is seeking answers to her questions about God and the afterlife and desires to have a relationship and love. She meets a boy named David ...who is really a stalker, rapist, and she unfortunately learns the hard way about real love. Finally she decides to begin anew and the story ends there.

OPENING LINE:

"When I woke up in the morning I thought I heard God, but it was only the old man sitting next to me on the Greyhound bus telling me we were there."

This is Kelly Dwyer's first novel. I found a wonderful hardcover in Iowa City, and had a coupon for 1/2 off, so I only paid $12.00. And I got it personally signed by the author, so that is very cool.
