Loving a Lost Lord In the first of a dazzling series, Mary Jo Putney introduces the Lost Lords—maverick childhood friends with a flair for defying convention. Each is about to discover the woman who is his perfect match—but perfection doesn't come easily, even for the noble Duke of Ashton. . .
Battered by the sea, Adam remembers nothing of his past, his ducal rank, nor of the shipwreck that almost claimed his life. However, he's delighted to hear that the golden-haired vision tending his wounds is his wife. Mariah's name and face may not be familiar, but her touch, her warmth, feel deliciously right. . .
When Mariah Clarke prayed for a way to deter a bullying suitor, she didn't imagine she'd find the answer washed ashore on a desolate beach. Convincing Adam that he is her husband is surprisingly easy. Resisting the temptation to act his wife, in every way, will prove anything but. And now a passion begun in fantasy has become dangerously real—and completely irresistible. . .
Never Less Than A Lady New York Times bestselling author Mary Jo Putney continues her stunning Lost Lords series with this stirring, sensual story of a rebellious nobleman drawn to a lovely widow with a shocking past.
As the sole remaining heir to the Earl of Daventry, Alexander Randall knows his duty: find a wife and sire a son of his own. The perfect bride for a man in his position would be a biddable young girl of good breeding. But the woman who haunts his imagination is Julia Bancroft—a village midwife with a dark secret that thrusts her into Randall's protection.
Nowhere Near Respectable Mary Jo Putney's riveting Lost Lords series unleashes a high stakes royal plot—which may prove easier for Damian Mackenzie to handle than his own unruly desire. . .
He's a bastard and a gambler and society's favorite reprobate. But to Lady Kiri Lawford he's a hero—braver than the smugglers he rescues her from, more honorable than any lord she's ever met, and far more attractive than any man has a right to be. How can she not fall in love. . .?
No Longer a Gentleman Grey Sommers, Lord Wyndham, never met a predicament he couldn't charm his way out of. Then a tryst with a government official's wife during a bit of casual espionage in France condemns him to a decade in a dungeon, leaving him a shadow of his former self. Yet his greatest challenge may be the enigmatic spy sent to free his body—the only woman who might heal his soul.
Cassie Fox lost everything in the chaos of revolution, leaving only a determination to help destroy Napoleon's empire through her perilous calling. Rescuing Grey is merely one more mission. She hadn't counted on a man with the stark beauty of a ravaged angel, whose desperate courage and vulnerability thaw her frozen heart. But a spy and a lord are divided by an impassable gulf even if they manage to survive one last, terrifying mission. . ..
Sometimes A Rogue. . . Even the most proper young lady yearns for adventure. But when the very well bred Miss Sarah Clarke-Townsend impulsively takes the place of her pregnant twin, it puts her own life at risk. If the kidnappers after her sister discover they've abducted Sarah instead, she will surely pay with her life. . .
Rob Carmichael survived his disastrous family by turning his back on his heritage and becoming a formidable Bow Street Runner with a talent for rescuing damsels in distress. But Sarah is one damsel who is equal to whatever comes. Whether racing across Ireland with her roguish rescuer or throwing herself into his arms, she challenges Rob at every turn.
Mary Jo Putney was born on 1946 in Upstate New York with a reading addiction, a condition for which there is no known cure. After earning degrees in English Literature and Industrial Design at Syracuse University, she did various forms of design work in California and England before inertia took over in Baltimore, Maryland, where she has lived very comfortably ever since.
While becoming a novelist was her ultimate fantasy, it never occurred to her that writing was an achievable goal until she acquired a computer for other purposes. When the realization hit that a computer was the ultimate writing tool, she charged merrily into her first book with an ignorance that illustrates the adage that fools rush in where angels fear to tread.
Fortune sometimes favors the foolish and her first book sold quickly, thereby changing her life forever, in most ways for the better. (“But why didn't anyone tell me that writing would change the way one reads?”) Like a lemming over a cliff, she gave up her freelance graphic design business to become a full-time writer as soon as possible.
Since 1987, Ms. Putney has published twenty-nine books and counting. Her stories are noted for psychological depth and unusual subject matter such as alcoholism, death and dying, and domestic abuse. She has made all of the national bestseller lists including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, USAToday, and Publishers Weekly. Five of her books have been named among the year’s top five romances by The Library Journal. The Spiral Path and Stolen Magic were chosen as one of Top Ten romances of their years by Booklist, published by the American Library Association.
A nine-time finalist for the Romance Writers of America RITA, she has won RITAs for Dancing on the Wind and The Rake and the Reformer and is on the RWA Honor Roll for bestselling authors. She has been awarded two Romantic Times Career Achievement Awards, four NJRW Golden Leaf awards, plus the NJRW career achievement award for historical romance. Though most of her books have been historical, she has also published three contemporary romances. The Marriage Spell will be out in June 2006 in hardcover, and Stolen Magic (written as M. J. Putney) will be released in July 2006.
Ms. Putney says that not least among the blessings of a full-time writing career is that one almost never has to wear pantyhose.
I have long been a fan of Mary Jo Putney's writing. These five books did an excellant job of reminding me why. While each book is beautifully written with very interesting and diverse characters, you can read each as a stand alone. Of course, you would miss quite a bit of depth. All of the stories are inter-conected. Each hero and heroine knows each other and some of them are related.
The love stories are not as predictable as most books classified as historical "romance." I have enjoyed these books so much and was delighted to see there are more books in the series. I am going to order more as soon as I finish this review. Enjoy!
Nice set of books. Since it is all five at once, I'm not sure how well any one does by itself. It is a set of friends but they end up with family members of other friends so it is a more limited set of people. A great deal of luck is involved in all the stories so you have to suspend disbelief and put up with that. If you are, like I sort of am, "well, that's fun, but there is no way that could happen", person, don't read these.
Five books on one go, that is my idea of heaven, then to discover there are more books from the same series to carry on with, superb!! Each book covers a different individual with others dropping in as necessary, also I love that you follow the different mind sets of characters Just my usual complaint, authors please note, whiskey with an E is NOT Scottish!! It is Irish. If you refer to the Scottish blends or malts it is either Scotch or Whisky.
A series of them, conveniently back to front sequentially! This was a perfect format for investigating this group of stories. I confess to a bias - Putney is an auto-click author for me. But being able to read this set, in order, and easily, essentially as an epic of several love stories - it is perfect. Totally perfect.
Awesome books together in a great series - always read anything she writes no matter the subject or time period as she never disappoints! Anyone who enjoys historical fiction and has not discovered the amazing Ms Pitney is in for a treat!!! You will want to read everything she has ever written
I just finished the first five books of the Lost Lord's and just over them all. Such great love stories. And great brave men, now on to the next book of the Lost Lords. Thank you I have always love her books. Ada G.
Each book in this collection was very good. I loved how the stories picked up from the previous book and you knew what happened to the friends and family members.
All four books in this series were wonderful. Beautiful love stories. With strong hero's and heroines. Excitement and adventure in each story, enough that you will not want to put any of these stories down. Eagerly awaiting the next book.
A collection of excellent books that I thoroughly enjoyed.I would highly recommend this set of books. The details of the books are too much to go into in this space but they are excellent!
Got though three of them before giving up. They are a bit simpilistic and unrealistic. The second one went through a phase of unknown family members appearing like Manchester rain. They were getting very "samey" and it was possible to guess who would shag/marry who in the later books.
Well written with heat developed characters. Lots of adventure and love. These books could stand alone, but are better read in order as characters reappear.
Outstanding! This collection of Lost Lords with thrill you! Romances woven around Regency England with a strong element of suspense Definitely worth reading!
Very nice. Suspense, love, romance. All the necessary ingredients. And all connected by a group of unusual friends. Am looking forward to number 6 and 7.
No es el mejor trabajo que he leído de esta escritora pero resulta entretenido, aunque parece que repiten las características de los personajes en cada novela
x-rated. Reread. Putney is always funny, sweet, sad, happy, scary, hot. Loyalty endears. Abused Lady Julia and Major Randall both are scarred. Mariah finds amnesiac Adam drifting ashore. Lady Kiri and club owner Mac save Princess Caroline from French assassination plot.
This was a very good value bundle, basically 5 books for the price of one. i thoroughly enjoyed every one of the books, although my favourite was definitely the last one. There is something special about a kidnapped heroine who ends up shooting her tormentors. With a rifle, that she has to load herself, while running from said kidnappers, while rescuing small children and other various ladies.....I think you get my drift :)
This set of novels has given me an appreciation of this author. The only part I would criticize would be the somewhat slow middles. They start well and end well...but in four of them there is at least a hundred pages about the middle that make me want to sleep. I understand what she is doing, showing the characters and how they became who they are, but a little less would make the stories move faster.
