Dark Secrets #2

The Heart's Ashes

Rate this book
Death never leaves us. Once it's touched our souls, it hungers for our return--waiting for us to fall. And if it finds Ara again, she will have no way to escape.

Moving on from David was hard, forgetting the abduction and torture was almost impossible, but nothing as devastating as the thought that now, because of her, David might face the horrific punishments of the Set.

No one knows where David went after he lost Ara, but she can only hope he's the one leaving subtle clues for her to discover, and it makes her desperate to find him--desperate enough that she would risk her life, hanging out with an informant who means to kill her. What truths she is told about David's dark past, though, will threaten to change her heart and destroy the way Ara perceives everything. She must ask herself if it's right to love one monster, then hate the one who tried to destroy her.

In all her searching, the promise of immortality will finally be renewed, but sold at a price Ara's not sure she's willing to pay.

Is love enough to make her submit to this new role, or will it fail her once again and leave her reaching back for the grasp of death?

Ara-Rose is finally going to have what she always wanted, to be normal. She is marring a normal guy. Too bad she can’t stop thinking about the vampire that has her soul. Her Life with her new husband isn’t as easy as she wants it to be. Ara is push deeper into the vampire world by Eric. Her new vampire friend. He tells her everything that David wouldn’t. A.M. Hudson will lead you through a lot of ups and downs. But you will wonder if Ara-Rose gets everything she ever wanted.

This is book 3 in the Dark Secrets series. It picks up right after book 2, and it keeps you wrap into the story. A.M. Hudson knows how to keep you wanting more. Now, like her other books, I was in tears 90% of the time. Hudson is knows how to keep you on the edge of you seat. The Dark Secrets are finally told and you understand so much more. I love this series and I cannot wait to read more! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book, and the other two

I want to swear so badly right now, because saying this book is good just doesn't cut it!!! But I have never sworn in a book review before. If I had the ability to write the way that this author does, then I would be able to find much better words to say what I feel. But, I can't, so I'm just going to go with the words that I have!!

The Heart's Ashes is so F**cking AMAZING!!!

I love this series and I love this author!! Angie Hudson has this incredible gift. The ability to create these characters that have become a part of me. The ability to weave a story that has touched me with so many different emotions. There were times while reading this book that I had to put it down and walk away to gather my thoughts and feelings at the turn that the story had taken. The completely unexpected twists that had the tears rolling down my face or grinning with pure joy. The way that the author can so perfectly describe a scene so that you can picture it as if you are seeing it on a TV screen.

I LOVE these characters. They live in my head and my heart long after I've finished reading about them...

DAVID: I love him!! Unconditionally!! He can do no wrong in my eyes. Everything that we learn about him just adds to how much I adore him!! And this book has cemented that for me!!
ARA: There were times that I was so frustrated with her that I wanted to throw the book across the room, but as the story unfolded and things became so much clearer to me, I was completely blown away by her strength!!
MIKE: He found himself a special little place in my heart reserved just for him in this book. I'd never really been able to get what everyone on Team Mike saw before. But I got it in this book!!
ERIC: He's a new character we get to meet and I love him for his honesty and, for the most part that he tells it like it is... Oh, and he's hot, so that sure doesn't hurt!!
JASON: Now that's a hard one. So much whirling around my head about him, but I can't tell you without giving things away, so for the moment, I have to keep it all to myself!! But once you read the book, I'm sure you'll get what I mean.
EMILY: Ara's friend plays a much bigger role in this book. There were times I loved her. Times I felt such emotion for her and times I just felt like I wanted to give her a good shake!!

The Heart's Ashes does not disappoint at any stage!! Take the next part of the journey with Ara, David, Mike and Emily. But be prepared for your heart to break!! Be prepared for your heart to be filled with joy!! And if you haven't already, be prepared to fall completely in love with these characters and Angie Hudson's writing because The Hearts Ashes is by far the best book in the series so far and I feel incredibly honoured to have had the chance to review it before it's release!!!

Amara finally starts to get her life on track after her brutal attack, but what is life if your heart isn’t whole? Ara’s inner struggle between what is right, and what she wants is wearing her down. She has to deal with a very complex layer of emotions, including a new found lustful desire. The tangled web that Ara weaves, only thrusts her deeper into the vampire world. She confronts physical pain, emotional anguish, and deception, but the love of her new husband and family help her pull through. Is their love strong enough to endure the tasks that lie ahead? I can only hope that Amara-Rose gets her happily ever after.

I absolutely love the Dark Secrets series, and was not let down by the third installment The Heart’s Ashes. Angela Hudson has a way of writing that can fill your heart with joy, or make it cringe with pain. She has filled this series with so much emotion, that it can be hard to swallow at times. I couldn’t even make it past the first chapter without tearing up. I love the character development in this book, and the climax was unexpected (even better than the other books). I was extremely honored to be able to review this book early, and can’t wait to see what is in store for Ara in the next book.

I HIGHLY recommend this series.

It was my honor to embark on the journey of Ara-Rose. An amazing addition to this already addictive story line, and characters. The Heart's Ashes will entrap you in its web, hold tight till the last word is read, as you stare unable to turn from the book hoping that if you don't put it down the story will continue. I was connected with my own soul, to read and have nothing else exist, only to feel a tear roll down my own cheek.

"Then do it to save your life- for me, because what he will do to you if you don't will be far worse than my death, sweetheart."

"Don't let me die with that thought, please?"

Feelings of desperation, joy, torment,to say a few that you will feel while traveling through their lives. Ms. Hudson has the wonderful ability to keep you on the emotional roller coaster with the characters, as if every thought was your own, every tear or heartbreak, rips your own heart from your chest.

Ara, Mike, Emily, and David blossom into so much more than young confused adults in the latest addition. They live a thousand lifetimes of sorrow and happiness, carrying you to their world where nothing is ever how it seems-

Who do they trust, what path will the heart follow and where will it lead?
Will they find a way to live, and find their eternity or be torn apart to live a life of despair?

With out a doubt my new favorite series and author already salivating for book four!

It is another hard road for star-crossed lovers, Amara and David. Wondering whether happily ever after is in the cards for them or not, this book will take the reader on an adventure that will leave them breathless. Captivating in its unexpectedness, heartbreaking in the love story of a vampire and a human. The reader will be taken to the top of the roller coaster only to suddenly fall back to earth with the quickly changing storyline. Best friend and first-love Mike, BFF Emily, sexy vampire David and good girl Amara will form a bond that defies mortal expectations. But will it be enough? Will true love win in the end? Can anyone ever be sure that who you love is who you should trust?
Follow the lives of the Immortals in this 3rd installation of "The Dark Secrets" series.
Angela Hudson has delivered another fast paced, well written novel with more twists and turns than a mountain road. You will not be let go until the last page has been turned...and even then, the next installment waits on the horizon. "The Heart's Ashes" will leave your own heart longing for more.

I've loved books one and two in this series and was not so patiently waiting for book three. I was frantic, addicted, and going through withdrawals wondering if Ara and Mike have a happily ever after, will she ever see David again, can he really let her go??? This book just "did" it for me for lack of being more eloquent. I was entrapped, the characters both old and new felt so much more real to me than they had in the previous books. I was proud of them, angered by them, and ashamed of them. This book is like icing on a cupcake, the cupcake in and of itself is great, but the icing makes it oh so much better. I hope you enjoy this book and much as I did!

In this book, Amara faces many challenges. I found times where I wanted to scream for happiness as well as for fustration and sadness. As with real life not everything goes as we plan but it always plays out in the way it was meant to. Amara is learning how true that is. Ms. Hudson has created wonderful characters, those that you can love and those that you can hate but with a twist. You find that one you didn't trust, maybe you should to only find you can't afterall. The Heart's Ashes is a perfect example of how books should be written. It keeps you on your toes and it leaves you begging for more.

I want to say I absolutely love this author! Angela Hudson is fantastic!! She has the ability to make you feel love, hate, frustration, sadness and excitement with her writing. Book 3 is no exception. I found it so hard to put down. (ask my husband) :) I am honored that I have been able to read this book and write a review. It is an awesome book and series and I can't wait for the next book to come out!!

A.M. does it again in book 3 of the Dark Secrets Series, I fell in love with book 1 could not wait for book 2, and finished book 3 with the burning desire for book 4. If it sounds like I am addicted to this series, you NAILED!! First, I would like to Thank Mrs. Hudson for the privilege to read and review the ARC version. She is amazing, she knows exactly how to grab her readers and keep them grounded, and chained to their seats with book in hand and never able to think of anything but what they are reading.

Usually in the beginning of a 3rd book of a series, the Author spends so much time back tracking from book 2, in this case book 2 and 3 blend so well, that there is no need to either back track it or if it has been awhile between reading 2 & 3 some may go back and reread the last few chapters of the book before, No need here. She creates the characters like she has actually lived their lives. A.M. writes about each one as if she feels what they feel.

You can connect with the characters so easily, you either like them or you don't.

Ara Dealing with many teen issues.Torn between Mike her best friend/childhood love, and David her Vampire who she is madly in love with. But she made a choice to marry Mike. She did not want immortality. I mean how can a girl not want to live eternity with a Vampire, and a HOT vamp. like David. (Ara sometimes makes you want to just scream, other times you totally understand her feelings and think "God please help her make the right choice")

David, amazingly hot Vampire, who is willing to do anything for Ara including risk unfathomable torch-er.( David, you love him right from the start and totally wish you could find a Vamp of your own)

Jason: Davids twin, and now enemy also wants revenge on David, for his actions in the past, and will get his revenge. ( Jason is so easy to hate and you will find that you love hating him, but then boom you second guess yourself)

As I read this book I found that I was actually playing out the characters in my head, and in my heart. I felt the joy and the agonizing pain too. But oh the surprise's in book 3 I was not expecting but welcomed them with open arms. This for me was the BEST of the 3 so far. There is so much more to come and I look forward to what's next on this journey of Dark Secrets. So many new characters, and some old that will blow your mind as to the roles they take on.

Thank You A.M for letting us travel through the world of DARK SECRETS, with you it is an amazing journey.

I loved this book. Definitely the best book of the series so far. There were many twists and turns and plot developments that I did not predict. Ara’s character finally starts to grow, though she still spends much of the book confused about which man she should be with, David or Mike. The story delves deeper into the ways of the vampire society and their laws. You also get some insight as to how David used to be and why he did what he did. A new character befriends Ara towards the beginning of the book. Eric is very likable and adds some light heartedness to the story. All in all, I think each book just keeps improving. I cannot wait for the fourth book.

Wonderfully written! The storyline gets better and better with each page. The individuals and events that take place within the book steal your breath away, leaving the readers with the feeling that they are living the story. You can see, hear, and taste the creative way the talented author bring each individual to our hearts with every words that is written. As each book comes out, it only gets better and better. Very captivating and blissfully satisfying! Can’t wait for the next book. Have to re-read over and over just to ease the craving for the next book.

This series just gets better and better! Ara is recovering from her attack and is trying to move forward, the twists and turns that follow will leave you on a roller coaster of emotions. One second you want to shake her, the next give her a hug. I laughed, cried and wanted to throw it down..but I couldn't stop reading! I can not wait for the next book since I am still full of questions!

This book picks up after Ara is "lost" (I'm trying to avoid the spoiler alert so take what's in quotes as a really under elaborated meaning) and it's incredibly depressing...at first. It's really all over the map emotion wise and the story gets a bit tangled up at times but it does seem to right itself frequently enough it can be overlooked.

It was nice to watch Ara get a little of what's coming to her for pushing and pulling on two men's hearts and just repeatedly hurting herself and them in the process. And it was nice to have some "payoff" for the romance part of the story too, considering the build up is so dramatic. Not to mention, I'm tired of the wait until marriage then immediately pregnant trope so common in these stories. It's still there a little bit but ultimately it crosses the line into something far more realistic.

Let's just say the first book was YA, the second book became adult fiction and the story benefitted from the change. Interestingly, it's as though the book grew up with the heroine and I can appreciate the forethought to allow the language and scenarios to grow up too.

The "issues" with Jason are a revelation, not entirely shocking but interesting none the less... and while I had an idea of what would happen it turned out slightly different than I thought it would. I'm excited to read the next in the series as there is a new plot line which I think will really make things interesting as Ara finds out her history and why she's pulled to Jason even thru his cruelty.

Honestly, when I started the first book in this series. I was skeptical because it took a while to find it's groove, but I'm glad I stuck with it even if at times I've got to really try to follow the web of stories that gets quite messy.

I mainly gave this four stars because there's a good number of typos in this one. The first didn't seem to have that issue. Parts of the story added to the typos made it feel like the author was rushing to try and get to a point. It simply needs an editor (or a better one) and an update to the kindle edition. You know, just in case the other reads this. ;)

4 3/4 Stars!! This series keeps getting better and better! This was a very long book and I DID NOT WANT TO PUT IT DOWN!! Needless to say, I didn't get much done during the few days it took me to read it. Ms. Hudson has such a way with words and she has such an incredible ability to feed your brain each scene with such clarity without overdoing it. Many times I felt like I was living out each experience with the characters. I laughed out loud, I cried, I got angry, etc. The only negative about this book (and I've mentioned this in a review of one of the other books in the series) is that there were many times that I found myself not liking Ara and other times when I loved her. She was just so wishy-washy and seemed to fall in love with every man she came in contact with. Some of this was later explained in the book, but I still found myself extremely aggravated with her. Also, I’m sure others will mention the similarities to Twilight, but this book is so well written, that I think I holds its own. I paid $0.99 for this book but would have been very happy to pay much more.

I don't even know where to begin. This book has been my favorite so far, i went through endless emotions as the story progressed, expanding my mind and heart. Ara's journey has just began and though she's torn in which direction her heart or her mind for that matter will take her, i'm definitely glad i have the opportunity to feel as though i'm taking it with her. The author has taken such an amazing writing ability and shared it with all of us. I felt as though i was experiencing every heartache, laugh, painful experience with Ara, David and Mike. I can't wait to get the chance to read book 4.

I have been a fan of the twilight saga, but this.... this series just may take its place at the top of my list, and i can always hope it won't end. I've read all books in the past week and i'm getting ready to start again. :)

Amazing!

Spoilers ahead

I have so many theories from the ending of this. With the arrival of Petey back in Ara’s life, I wonder if Jason is really alive and perhaps the right one for Ara . I wonder if uncle Arthur believes that he will need to be the one to take the Knight’s place in the prophecy since he believes his nephews to be dead. I wonder if David will be corrupted by the idea of being a king. The first two books have had me laughing, crying, swooning, and just trying to figure out the twists and turns as Ara’s life unfolds.

First of all, stellar cover. I love, love, LOVE it. It's gorgeous. Love the font, the colors, everything. Gorgeous.

Ok... so The Heart's Ashes was sent to me as an advanced copy by the author, A.M. Hudson. And I'm really upset with myself that it took so long to read it. Because it truly is a wonderful book. I've just been in this funk which has resulted in a reading slump, so I wasn't doing much of ANYTHING. I got some reading done at my family reunion but that was about it.

Anyway... I'm not sure what I can say about this book that won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't read it (or the previous novels in the series)... so I will tell you there are a lot of twists and turns and TONS of surprises. This story leaves me with conflicting feelings for a character that played a terrible role in the last installment. I wanted to hate him... but I found myself liking him more than I probably should have being that he was a "bad guy".

David and Mike are true to form. Forever the gallant and chivalrous protectors. That's what is so wonderful about them, though. You don't find enough of that in real life anymore. It's nice to be able to find them in books. Emily is a tad bit different in this story, but I suppose anyone in her situation would have a little attitude adjustment. And poor Ara. There's some serious head-screwing with where she's concerned. She can't tell which way is up sometimes. Sure she has her moments... she is still a teenage girl, after all. But she goes through a LOT in this story so you've got to hand it to her.

Like I said before, I LOVED the story. Everything about it. If you've read the first two in the series, definitely grab this one as soon as you can.

Another Great Book!!! just loved it!!
I am having a hard time writing a review though I wish I could write like A.M. Hudson then it would be a breeze!

First, I would like to say thank you to A. M. Hudson for giving me an ARC of this novel to read, that was so nice and greatly appreciated!

This novel is by far the longest so far in the series and contains so many plot twists that, on more than one occasion, I had to put the book down to stop from screaming. However, that is part of the joy of reading this series, because, as much as Ara, David, and Mike's lives are twisted and changed, there always remains this ever-continuing love.

To give one thing away in the book would be too much. I will say though that this book will definitely not lead where you were expecting it to lead. Also, it will leave you with some answered questions and many new plot lines that have been woven into the Dark Secrets series.

One thing I really love about this series is how A. M. Hudson uses the emotions of all of the characters to establish the pace of the novel. The joy and happiness of these characters will shine through to any reader and the sadness will just break your heart. The only complain I have now is that I have to wait for more of this beautiful, twisted story.

As with the other novels, don't expect an easy happily ever after, the Dark Secrets series is by far more than just a simple love story, be aware: once you read one of these novels, you'll be hooked until the end.

Great job A. M. Hudson, now I will try and patiently wait for the next installment to hear about Ara, David, and Mike.

3.5 Stars. I have really enjoyed the series so far. This book had me disliking Ara in the begining. She was very whiney, a bit too self-centered and frankly needed to be smacked. Mike grew on my nerves a bit too. I was thinking he was the "male Ara". Both weren't just as likable as they were in the first two novels. I do enoy how the author makes Ara speak her mind and isn't overly coy, shy, goodie-goodie but still retains some of her naiveness.

The author is a very good writer and really takes you into the world. I know exactly how characters look, feel, "smell", etc. Same with their surroundings. Very well done in the tourture room/scenes. Had my heart racing a bit and my eyes did water.

First half of the book was 3 stars, second half 4. Picks up around the attack at Karnivale. Oh and I really enjoy the character Eric. I hope to see more of him in the next book.

They only true gripe I have about all three novels is that, while Ara (and Mike) are Aussie, the author makes her American friends too Aussie in regards to speech. It's ok with Ara's inner dialog and her conversations with Mike but it doesn't fit with Emily and the rest of her high school friends & family.

Looking forward to more work by this Author.

Ok ... so this one was definitely better than Dark Secrets.

The ending (no spoilers) DID make me cry, and i felt in credibly sad...
But i had a real difficult time with the book...it took me DAYS to finish it, when i usually read one this size in a day or less. I actually, at one point, walked away, with intentions of never finishing it.

Ara is still back and forth. But to me, it got worse. Mike? David? Eric? Jason? There are points in this book that she has 'love' feelings for all the men, and that makes her more upset...which in turn, makes her more back and forth.

I believe that Hudson has a way with words, about painting a picture - i knew every detail about everything...i guess...i just maybe didn't want to. I skipped over several paragraphs, until i got to the last quarter of the book. The last quarter was REALLY good and i read it word for word - not wanting to miss anything.

I'm glad the author left it open for the next in the series...but also closed it out, so if you don't want to go on...you don't have to.

Well talk about gut wrenching, if you thought book one broke your heart, it's nothing compared to The Heart's Ashes. Ouch. Once again we're drawn into Ara and David and Mike's world, and those that love deeply are often the ones that hurt the most. We are certainly seeing Ara start to realize her place in the scheme of things, even if she's reluctant to accept or admit it. I'm certainly hooked on this series at this point there's no way I won't read each book right away, even though I have tons of reviews coming up. Somehow I'll get them all done (and I am trying desperately to get to the Bound books so I may or may not have very little sleep in my near future.) But I digress. The point is- read these books if you want to become part of something so beautiful and epic that no fantasy fan should miss out! another 5 stars here

3.5 stars. This author has ways with words, almost like poetry it's clear she's a talented writer. There were elements I really liked about these books but I came to dislike Ara, even believed she had a personality disorder, bipolar at some point..psychotic and almost gave up on this third book(put it down many times) but the last half was a surprise.

I'm so relief! Everything made more sense and was explained. There were major reasons for these extremely ridiculous nonsenses. I strongly believe my experience and opinion would have been more positive if I didn't have to wait for this third one. The author took a chance she could have lost many readers along the way. I'm undecided whether it was worth my frustration or not, yet I feel compelled to keep reading.

This was an amazing book! It offered and delivered even more than the other two and they were amazing as well! It was an emotional roller coaster reading this book. As soon as I got used to feeling one emotion and got used to the way things were going BAM! It would though another emotion at me change directions! I drank a bottle of wine while reading this and about a pound of chocolate. I felt slightly bi-polar reading this as my emotions changed several times while reading it... I would be happy one minute then have my heart ripped out the next! I cannot wait for the next one to come out!You all will love The Heart's Ashes!!!!!

This book was absolutely amazinggg! I loved it. I couldn't put it down. Ara is definitely brave and her love for her friends and family, and of course David, really shows in this book. Some scenes in the book brought tears to my eyes. It was just emotional and A.M Hudson is a great author. She really describes the characters and the settings in a way so you can picture it exact and imagine how each character sounds and reacts!

Ok. I'll be honest, its a YA book, and I am a bit addicted to teenage drama. This is the first time that I have read a series where the books actually get better and better. I wasn't a huge fan of the first book and the second one pulled me in to read the third. However this installment, just wowed me! It was a combo of WTH moments and emotions. Kudos to the author, I cannot wait for the 4th book. Just an overall great vampire series.

I loved it!!! I love this series! Every time I finish a book I'm sad. Ara is at times vert whiney and naive but I love her. Sha does tend to get really annoying with her I love you. No I love you I love you both now I love this other guy, but that is part of the allure of these books. You can't wiat to find out what happens next. I absolutely cannot wait for book 4!

I love this series. There is not one bad thing i could possibly say about it! A.M. hudson has created a magnificent and breath taking world. This story had me laughing, gasping, and crying my eyes out throughout the whole story. I was on the edge of my seat, literally, the entire time! I can't wait for book four!
