This book uncovers a vital missing element in most marriages—faith! Discover how faith should be the foundation and the source of joy and happiness in your marriage relationship. Faith is where God’s touch enters the picture—and more than anything, your marriage needs His touch!
Dr. Paul Chappell is the senior pastor of the Lancaster Baptist Church and president of West Coast Baptist College in Lancaster, California. His biblical vision has led the church to become one of the most dynamic independent Baptist churches in the nation. He has been married to his wife for over thirty-six years and is the father of four married children all serving in Christian ministry. His books can be found at http://www.strivingtogether.com.
I felt like the book was full of cliches, and not much of substance was offered. There were a few nuggets I picked out, but otherwise not the book I was hoping it would be.
Some of this book was fluff, but it was worth reading for the nuggets I did get out of it. My favorite line was "Commitment simply means that you don't even have a 'last straw'."
2.25⭐️ As someone who has read a LOT of marriage books, I usually have a pretty high standard. This book just didn’t meet it.
The information was true and Biblical-based, but it was extremely surface level. I know it is a short book, but if you’re going to discuss ways to strengthen your marriage, don’t just give me a list without discussing practical application. For example, one of the points in the book discussed yielding to Scripture; instead of discussing HOW to do this, Chappell just discussed why it was important. We already know that it is important; tell us ways to actually do that.
I fully believe that a marriage based on God will succeed, but I didn’t like Chappell’s point that unsaved people cannot experience a great marriage as well. Sure, trusting in God will strengthen a marriage, but just because you aren’t saved doesn’t mean your marriage will be automatically bad. Maybe I misunderstood his point, but regardless, this book just didn’t strike home with me.
Despite this book appearing to have a lot of bad reviews, I would recommend this for those preparing to get married, and for the already married! This book was GREAT!!! For such a small book, it was filled with such great information on how to have a good marriage!
Some of the most helpful counsel in life is not new but simple reminders of truth we have heard before. This little book is full of those simple reminders put in words that you will enjoy reading. Very helpful. Very practical. Much needed in marriages today.
Great book that explains how to have a God-centered marriage. It is very non-judgmental and approaches things from both the male and female perspective. Very well written book!
Great points but I feel the author could have went deeper into the subject matter. I honestly felt that the book was more based on the relationship with Christ than marriage.
