2.25⭐️ As someone who has read a LOT of marriage books, I usually have a pretty high standard. This book just didn’t meet it.
The information was true and Biblical-based, but it was extremely surface level. I know it is a short book, but if you’re going to discuss ways to strengthen your marriage, don’t just give me a list without discussing practical application. For example, one of the points in the book discussed yielding to Scripture; instead of discussing HOW to do this, Chappell just discussed why it was important. We already know that it is important; tell us ways to actually do that.
I fully believe that a marriage based on God will succeed, but I didn’t like Chappell’s point that unsaved people cannot experience a great marriage as well. Sure, trusting in God will strengthen a marriage, but just because you aren’t saved doesn’t mean your marriage will be automatically bad. Maybe I misunderstood his point, but regardless, this book just didn’t strike home with me.
