Meredith is managing okay since she left her hometown of Crossroads, Montana—she’s working, paying the rent and putting food on the table for herself and her child, at least. But no matter how much time passes, she can’t forget Pete, the only man she’s ever loved. Meredith wonders how she can move on, when just looking at her little boy so painfully reminds her of everything that's happened. Her son is five when Meredith returns to Crossroads to claim The Serenade—a popular hotel, bar and restaurant—which she inherits from a dear friend who treated her like family when her own family did not. A single mother from a rough background, Meredith knows life is not all roses, and that she will have to work even harder than ever with her new responsibilities. But she has no idea of the obstacles that she must overcome, now that she has moved back home to claim her inheritance and hopefully reunite with Pete.
When I was a kid, I was always telling entertaining anecdotes, and my Mom would say, "You should be writing this down!" Sometimes I did, sometimes I didn't, but she was always the biggest fan of anything I wrote. She was such an inspiration.
In 1975 I married my sweetheart, George, whom I met at Great Falls High School in Montana. We moved around some with the United States Marines, (OORAH!) and then settled in the Pacific Northwest, where we raised a son and daughter. Now we have two talented, spirited granddaughters with whom we love to spend time.
I enjoy many genres, from women's fiction mixed with light romance and suspense, such as the first two books I wrote, to science fiction mixed with a bit of historical fiction, such as the book I wrote under the pen name L.A. MacFadden, which will be coming out in summer 2019.
I can often be found working on my next book where I live in rural western Oregon.
The premise of the book was good, but it was careworn is places with typical plot twists. Communication is always "the" problem which bores me and only points to the fact that the principal two will presto! get back together again when they finally discover at the same time they can't live without each other. No problems are talked through and resolved. This can only come back and bite them in the future.
A little more time diving into these issues would have elevated this to a truly well-rounded book, because I liked the main characters who had real life problems to deal with.
Meanwhile the arsonist left a pretty clear trail with his/her actions and his/her anger.
Storyline jumps around and doesn't make sense at times. No real back story or current story for the 2 characters that are supposedly in love....just not that great of a read.
I absolutely LOVE this book by Laurie Adair Grove. It is more then a love story (romance) it is a mystery as well. It is also about the family that we are born into and the ones that we create ourselves. The writing is fresh, unique and enjoyable. You almost feel as if you are sitting across the table and your best friend is telling you her story. This is a must read and when the book was offered for free, I told all of my friends to download it. Free or at $2.99 it is a bargain that you will enjoy reading!
This is a first attempt by this author who is a local from Gresham. It is available in kindle edition only. She had a great storyline/plot, however, her writing ability needs to be developed in order to make this a "readable" novel.
The main character is just too unbelievable and the other character just allow her to do sim pretty stupid things. Sorry I really wanted to like the book, but it was just not going to happen.
