What critics are saying about Gemma's works:
"Like the west coast version of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie plum - only more stylish!" - LG Book Club
"A saucy combination of romance and suspense that is simply irresistible." - Chicago Tribune
Gemma had a hard time figuring out what she wanted to be when she grew up. She worked as a film and television actress, a teddy bear importer, a department store administrator, a preschool teacher, a temporary tattoo artist, and a 900 number psychic, before finally selling her first book, Spying in High Heels, in 2005 and deciding to be a writer.
Since then, Gemma has written several mystery novels and been the recipient of numerous awards, including a National Reader's Choice award and three RITA nominations. Her books have hit both the USA Today and the New York Times Bestseller lists.
Gemma now makes her home in the San Francisco Bay area where she is hard at work on her next book.
Former model Maya has been the office manager for the private investigation firm but tonight the boss is in a bind and needs Maya to step out of her comfort zone and pick up an assignment. Reluctantly she gives in and things go sideways from there. Really good short read!
Well,it had me guessing !! And to think a quiet, mousy little thing could become the star attraction! Nice little story, entertaining and still can give you that "ah-HA"" punch! ! Loved it--P/
"Bond Bombshell" is a short novella that features Maya, Jamie Bond's executive assistant. It seems Jamie is overbooked and needs Maya to check out a potential cheating husband. Although Maya has never investigated a mark and she is very nervous, she agrees to the assignment. However, things go badly when Maya realizes that the husband she is investigating is her ex-fiancee, Brandon Duke.
As the events unfold it is very clear that nothing and no one is who they seem. This was a cute little story that gives us more insight into one of the Bond girls. I hope there will be more of these about the other sub characters in the future.
Short read and a great quickie in the series. Jamie's right-hand gal/office assistant, Maya, is pulled into surveillance when all other agents in the PI firm are booked. All she has to do is get proof for the client of her husband's infidelity. Easy, right? Except that the 'mark' turns out to be Maya's ex-fiance. When Maya finds no evidence of any foul play, she gets curious and begins to track the client instead. In the long run, she exposes a money laundering operation, and the fact that her feelings for her ex are something that might need to be looked into. He seems willing to assist, and it might be interesting to see where this goes between the two. Great novella.
A very short story. Maya gets her feet wet as a PI. She soon finds out that being a PI is not as glamorous as it looks. She has to follow her ex-fiance. Maya makes all the wrong errors and soon finds herself in a pickle.
Well, it was an interesting insight into Maya, but all in all the mystery lingered too much in other details to be up to par with the rest of the books. It would be nicer if I didn't have to pay for it, too, it comes across more as a treat fans should get for the bundle or somesuch. Meh, it also feels a bit like an outtake explaining something that happens on book three, which is I am not entirely satisfied with it.
