See, he wrote this review for Power Girl, Vol. 1: A New Beginning that made her sound all fun and worthwhile to read about.
It's not that I didn't like Power Girl, she just didn't seem interesting...till his review.
Well, I couldn't get the book he was gushing about, but this popped up in the search box on my library's website. So like an excited puppy (who can use a mouse), I clicked on it.
This wasn't all that good.
The story is that Earth 2's Supergirl (Power Girl) and Robin (Huntress) are stranded here in our universe.
Power Girl should be a fairly cool character, but the only things I really took away from this was that she likes the paparazzi, has lots of money, and is (maybe) Super-Smart.
Question:
I understand that she needs to look different from Kara, but why is she sporting that awful 70's haircut? Who parts their hair down the middle and then feathers it?! Is part of her origin story that she was an original cast member on Charlie's Angels?

Huntress is the daughter of Earth 2's Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle, so her character has waaay more potential right off the bat. The flashbacks to her previous life were few and far between, but they were also the most enjoyable thing about this for me.
She meets up with Damien on the opening pages, which should (again) be really cool, but it isn't.
They do the SuperHero Shuffle aka fight without bothering to talk, and then get together for a brief team-up.
They fight a werewolf.
I'm not even sure what to say about that...
To top off this treasure, Mr. Terrific (sort of) makes an appearance.
I should probably mention that Mr. Terrific is second only to Hawkman when it comes to ending my interest in a title. He's one of the worst re-inventions of the New 52 lineup, in my opinion.

The concept is interesting, but unless one of my friends tells me that this title vastly improves with volume 3, I'm not going to be on the lookout for anymore of these.

I really did like the first World's Finest volume, so I'm not sure why this one wasn't as thrilling for me. There were things that I liked, which earned it the three stars. In particular, Helena meeting Damien, which went about as well as you might expect. But overall, kind of underwhelming.

Good stuff, but the writer is dragging out plotlines to generate Desa'ad, or however he spells his name, into some super-super-supervillain, yet expects us to believe he won;t just vaporize Huntress or Power Girl where they stand. The art seems to vary in quality, or at least consistency, as well.

This is a good book that's doing things slow, steady and genuinely. The relationships, the uber-villain, the way this pair makes their way through the world with their respective skills.
I like the exploration of how these heroes are still trying to fit into this slightly-altered universe. Makes them seem a little more relatable, that not everything comes as easily to them as combat.
I really like the hints at their former lives, and that they're a little skittish to confront the shadows of those lives here on our Earth.
I especially like the cool-under-fire Huntress - much better than the previous emotionally-raw, always-angry-and-scowling version.
I'm in love with the relationship Helena and Karen have - both as heroes (constant team-up) and as friends in civvies. It's rare to see folks in current DC come together, not punch each other, and stay together for an extended period.
If not for the boob window showing back up in the last issue of this trade (was that an editorial edict, or did one of the rapidly-rotating artists just slip that by? I'm disappointed, as the new costumes are both sexy and far more functional looking, and now Karen's running around in a bathing suit again. She's an attention whore but not a whore - subtle difference for the boys at DC, but crucial.
This isn't the best book around but it's got a lot of good stuff in it, and I'll keep reading it even if the only thing they did is *not* piss me off.

The series that portrays best friends Helena Wayne, the Huntress, and Karen Starr, the Power Girl, continues! They’re from Earth 2 which was devastated by Darkseid’s forces and now they’re looking for a way back. This collection has shorter stories, each two issues, which seem at first disconnected from each other. Also, the final issues concentrate on the disappearance of Michael Holt which happened in the Mr. Terrific’s comic. I didn’t even know Power Girl and Mr. Terrific were dating.
In the first issue, Helena has broken into Wayne Industries to ”borrow” money for her next identity, but she’s ambushed by the new Robin, Damien. They battle, of course. Meanwhile, Karen is in space putting something on Morgan Edge’s satellite. When Helena is in trouble with Damien, Karen interferes and Damien finally listens. It seems that someone is stealing millions every week from Wayne industries. Damien and the women agree to track down the perp.
The next issue is the team-up. Robin and the Huntress go north and battle wolves while tracking down a lead, while the Power Girl goes to Mali where she’s confronted by children who have apparently energy weapons from Apokolips.
In the next issue, assassins are after Helena. It seems that Ibn Hassan (whom I haven’t heard of before) put a large prize on her head. She’s shot and beaten so she’s confined to bed. While Karen hunts down the man who is responsible for the prize, Helena reminiscences about her life on Earth 2 when Batman and Catwoman, her parents, trained her.
Next, a group of mercenaries invades Starr Island, Karen’s home. Wounded Helena defends Karen’s staff against them.
Karen and Hel find out that Michael Holt is behind the assault on Karen’s home. But he disappeared a while ago, after he and Karen split up. Helena looks for clues in Holt Industries. But when someone systematically attacks Karen’s labs, she and Hel go on the offensive. Finally, the villain behind their troubles is revealed.
This wasn’t as good as the first volume, but I still mostly enjoyed it and I’m eager to read the next one. I again enjoyed the friendship between Helena and Karen. Their personalities are quite different. Hel has been taught how to stay invisible, while Karen enjoys the spotlight, playing her role as a billionaire industrialist. Hel is cool under fire while Karen is brash. However, I dislike Damien and the stories were a bit too disjointed. Also, I found it strange that I’ve never heard of Ibn Hassan or Karen dating Mr. Terrific so those storylines left me cold. The last story ends in a cliffhanger.
However, the complex relationship between Hel and Damien was done well. Neither has ever had a sibling. Yet, they grew to sort of care about each other. I also really enjoyed the glimpses of Hel’s parents and her life with them.
I liked most of the artwork. Perez’s work is as gorgeous as ever but Macguire did most of the work. His more rounded style works well for the Power Girl. However, the fill-in artists’ styles were very different from them which was a little distracting.

Pierwszy tom Worlds' Finest może nie był arcydziełem, ale dało się go jako tako przeczytać. Drugi w sumie też, ale podczas lektury nie mogłem się pozbyć wrażenia, że cała intryga zmierza w stronę, która raczej nie dostarczy mi nadmiernej frajdy. Ale po kolei.
Zaznajomieni z tematem wiedzą, że pod zmyślnymi ksywkami Huntress czy Power Girl, kryją się Robin i Supergirl, tyle że te nieco odmienne, bo przybyłe z tzw. Earth-2 w ramach istnienia multiversum. Udało im się ukryć swoje prawdziwe tożsamości i bytują w tym wymiarze już od blisko pięciu lat. Kwestią czasu było spotkanie przez jedną z nich kogoś z rodziny i konfrontacja z prawdą. Wybór scenarzysty padł na młodego Robina, Damiana Wayne'a. Całe ukazane nam zamieszanie ma wprawdzie potencjał, ale zostaje on zmarnowany, najpierw na mdłe starcie między obojgiem Robinów, a potem w trakcie wspólnej akcji, gdzie przyjdzie się im nawet zmierzyć z... wilkołakiem? Myślałem, że takie rodzinne spotkanie wybrzmi jakoś emocjonalnie, ale nie. Głupi byłem.
Dalej na moment jest nieco lepiej, kiedy to Huntress staje się zwierzyną łowną i zostaje ranna, dzięki czemu co kilka stron pojawiają się flashbacki. Ukazują one jej rodziców, czyli Bruce'a Wayne'a i Seliny Kyle z tej innej Ziemi. Mają one klimat i swój styl, przez co odczuwałem żal, że jest ich tak mało na tle reszty tego tomu. Nieco dalej następuje atak na siedzibę Power Girl i obie panny znów muszą się brać do roboty. Końcowe zeszyty to prowadzenie dochodzenia i poszukiwanie winnego wspomnianego ataku, którym okazuje się być imć Holt...

No może trochę Huntress, ale już Kara jako Power Girl to dla mnie charakter zupełnie wypalony. Twórcy ukazali ją jako biznesmenkę, która uwielbia pławić się w blasku fleszy, a dodatkowo prawie przez cały komiks miałem wrażenie, że jest tu tylko od ratowania tyłka koleżanki. I tylko od tego plus może parę solowych, mdłych akcji.
Graficznie jest spoko. Oczywiście, a jakby że inaczej, skoro to komiks o dwóch laskach, to i muszą być one odpowiednio doposażone (ekhm, seksizm), choć nie przypadł mi do gustu ubiór bohaterek, zwłaszcza Kary. Gdybym miał ocenić tom drugi, to dałbym mu tak naprawdę 2.5, bo na zawyżenie oceny do trójeczki w tym przypadku nie ma mowy.

Well, having picked up the first Volume of this series through idle curiosity I actually found it was a half-good story. It had its ups, it had its downs. What more could you want? Nothing is perfect. And that's the first problem with the Volume 2. It isn't perfect. In fact, far less perfect than its predecessor.
We pick up from where Volume 1 left off, Powergirl (Karen Starr) and her fellow unwilling refugee Huntress (Helena Wayne) continue to play out their lives on this new Earth after being displaced in the dimensional plain and taken from their own world to be placed on another one. Karen is still the CEO of Starr Industries and I'm pretty sure Helena is still just a mooch stealing from this reality's Bruce Wayne's fortune.
It's with Helena's newest bank account hack which starts this comic off. Damien Wayne (This world's Robin - and my least favourite Robin ever) tracks her down as she transfers a vast quantity of Wayne's fortune to her bank. After a bit of an edgy meeting the two accept one another as "not-brother" and "not-sister". However, this settlement on roles is over with pretty quickly. Going from Damien trying to kick her head in on one panel to them casually sitting around like they've known one another for years on the next. Which is stupid. If someone came up to you and said they're your sister from an alternate reality would you believe them? Especially if technically you're an only child.
So yeah, a few things happen after this, there's a pack of wolves trying to kill Huntress and Robin for some reason.. I can't remember it wasn't really that well explained. Powergirl spots (the far superior character) Supergirl whilst flying around and avoids her alternate self because... I guess people needed a reminder that Powergirl is Supergirl from an alternate reality? More on that later.
A big part of what made Volume 1 so enjoyable is that we got to see Karen and Helena interact with one another and you got a feel of what it is like for them to have adjusted to this new life. With this Volume however, the two are barely together. And when they are it's either really short or it's when Powergirl crashes through a wall of some description and picks up Huntress to rescue her from a hale of bullets. This gets pretty frustrating because it makes Huntress look completely dependant on Powergirl and even Powergirl remarks that this made her have to cancel a pretty important meeting from a potential client for her company.
A lot of this comic, or what feels like it, is just fallout from various other series. For example, right out of nowhere we learn that Damien Wayne died, we're never told how or, well, yeah, we're only ever told he died. They go to his grave and again, Powergirl is called in to whoosh Huntress away when she hears Batman coming. Because Huntress is completely incapable of being hidden or escaping independently at all. Also, I don't understand why she is so upset that Damien has died. I mean, yeah, it's sad whenever anyone dies. But she knew him for 20 minutes at best. And on top of that, this is comic book world, where characters die and come back all the time. Tell Damien was killed by a future incarnation of himself travelled back in time from the future to kill himself... Comics are weird aren't they?
A few issues later, well, the last one, we suddenly find out some laboratory has been attacked in the UK somewhere, I don't know it's a pretty dull sub-plot in this otherwise "gripping" Volume and Powergirl and Huntress kick in to action! Getting their costumes on and flying off to... Wait... When did Powergirl change her costume from the new, well covered up one to the old one with the chest piece missing? Did I miss something? Where did the old costume go? How much time has passed in these issues? It's not even addressed by any of the characters present! She had the old costume in the last issue!? Times like this it's glad I picked up the Supergirl comics of the New 52. Because it's all explained in there. Powergirl and Supergirl met one another and so on after Supergirl got a dose of Kryptonite poisoning at the end of the H'El On Earth crossover with Superman and Superboy. Powergirl, being a genetic match, was summoned to help heal her. When Supergirl's Sanctuary base was attacked by something I can't remember Powergirl's old costume was torn to literal shreds, to the point of near nakedness. Supergirl's Sanctuary provided new clothes to her - which just so happened to be the traditional old costume. How about that for coincidence? I wouldn't have a problem with that in this Volume, but it's not even mentioned, like, not at all. She puts it on and they fly off. It's frustratingly underplayed, not even a "Nice costume Karen." or a "The Hell is that?" Nothing!
But yes, turns out the UK attack was just a ruse (I think...?) so lure them away from Powergirl's island mansion (that doesn't look like Iron Man's house from the films at all). When they return they find out some minor villain throughout the book called Michael Holt has been and destroyed the place and killed Karen Starr's personal assistant and staff and stuff. It was a minor plot throughout the second half of the book at most. Even though it was clearly meant to be the big story. Shoddy writing, predictable reveals and a lack of any sense of danger to thank for that one. So Huntress comforts Powergirl for a bit and then the two declare they're going to go underground to take down Michael Holt once and for all. To. Be. Continued.
So yeah, this was bad. Well, not as much bad as ONE OF THE MOST BORING COMICS I'VE EVER READ. I mean, this thing is everywhere. It doesn't stay still long enough to let you figure out what is going on. It never shuts up, the action is pretty meagre at best, there's a little character development but some of it is just stupidly written like the Huntress crying over Damien - the kid who tried to kill her for half the time she knew him. The spacing between the issues is insane. You finish one issue and the next one seems to be set a year later and it begins going on about a whole new story. FINISH THE ONE YOU'RE ON FIRST DC! The flashbacks are still there but unlike this one they don't really serve any purpose past being miller for scene cuts in the present sections of the story. Karen's business schedule is pretty much highlighted as the most important thing in this story, which is a major source of the boredom of this comic. People hate the DC and through this I see why.
I really hope Volume Three is better. Because this set up could have so much potential. And with the climax of them going underground could turn in to something pretty cool. Huntress and Powergirl are an odd pairing to have for a comic but if done right it could really, really work. Don't have it that Huntress needs to be saved from literally EVERYTHING and work on developing the readers understanding of their relationship and frankly the significance of the plot. Because those are where the true power of this title lies. Not in Karen Starr's business schedule.

Going from Damien trying to kick her head in on one panel to them casually sitting around like they've known one another for years on the next. Which is stupid. If someone came up to you and said they're your sister from an alternate reality would you believe them? Especially if technically you're an only child.
So yeah, a few things happen after this, there's a pack of wolves trying to kill Huntress and Robin for some reason.. I can't remember it wasn't really that well explained. Powergirl spots (the far superior character) Supergirl whilst flying around and avoids her alternate self because... I guess people needed a reminder that Powergirl is Supergirl from an alternate reality? More on that later.
A big part of what made Volume 1 so enjoyable is that we got to see Karen and Helena interact with one another and you got a feel of what it is like for them to have adjusted to this new life. With this Volume however, the two are barely together. And when they are it's either really short or it's when Powergirl crashes through a wall of some description and picks up Huntress to rescue her from a hale of bullets. This gets pretty frustrating because it makes Huntress look completely dependant on Powergirl and even Powergirl remarks that this made her have to cancel a pretty important meeting from a potential client for her company.
A lot of this comic, or what feels like it, is just fallout from various other series. For example, right out of nowhere we learn that Damien Wayne died, we're never told how or, well, yeah, we're only ever told he died. They go to his grave and again, Powergirl is called in to whoosh Huntress away when she hears Batman coming. Because Huntress is completely incapable of being hidden or escaping independently at all. Also, I don't understand why she is so upset that Damien has died. I mean, yeah, it's sad whenever anyone dies. But she knew him for 20 minutes at best. And on top of that, this is comic book world, where characters die and come back all the time. Tell Damien was killed by a future incarnation of himself travelled back in time from the future to kill himself... Comics are weird aren't they?
A few issues later, well, the last one, we suddenly find out some laboratory has been attacked in the UK somewhere, I don't know it's a pretty dull sub-plot in this otherwise "gripping" Volume and Powergirl and Huntress kick in to action! Getting their costumes on and flying off to... Wait... When did Powergirl change her costume from the new, well covered up one to the old one with the chest piece missing? Did I miss something? Where did the old costume go? How much time has passed in these issues? It's not even addressed by any of the characters present! She had the old costume in the last issue!? Times like this it's glad I picked up the Supergirl comics of the New 52. Because it's all explained in there. Powergirl and Supergirl met one another and so on after Supergirl got a dose of Kryptonite poisoning at the end of the H'El On Earth crossover with Superman and Superboy. Powergirl, being a genetic match, was summoned to help heal her. When Supergirl's Sanctuary base was attacked by something I can't remember Powergirl's old costume was torn to literal shreds, to the point of near nakedness. Supergirl's Sanctuary provided new clothes to her - which just so happened to be the traditional old costume. How about that for coincidence? I wouldn't have a problem with that in this Volume, but it's not even mentioned, like, not at all. She puts it on and they fly off. It's frustratingly underplayed, not even a "Nice costume Karen." or a "The Hell is that?" Nothing!
But yes, turns out the UK attack was just a ruse (I think...?) so lure them away from Powergirl's island mansion (that doesn't look like Iron Man's house from the films at all). When they return they find out some minor villain throughout the book called Michael Holt has been and destroyed the place and killed Karen Starr's personal assistant and staff and stuff. It was a minor plot throughout the second half of the book at most. Even though it was clearly meant to be the big story. Shoddy writing, predictable reveals and a lack of any sense of danger to thank for that one. So Huntress comforts Powergirl for a bit and then the two declare they're going to go underground to take down Michael Holt once and for all. To. Be. Continued.
So yeah, this was bad. Well, not as much bad as ONE OF THE MOST BORING COMICS I'VE EVER READ. I mean, this thing is everywhere. It doesn't stay still long enough to let you figure out what is going on. It never shuts up, the action is pretty meagre at best, there's a little character development but some of it is just stupidly written like the Huntress crying over Damien - the kid who tried to kill her for half the time she knew him. The spacing between the issues is insane. You finish one issue and the next one seems to be set a year later and it begins going on about a whole new story. FINISH THE ONE YOU'RE ON FIRST DC! The flashbacks are still there but unlike this one they don't really serve any purpose past being miller for scene cuts in the present sections of the story. Karen's business schedule is pretty much highlighted as the most important thing in this story, which is a major source of the boredom of this comic. People hate the DC and through this I see why.
I really hope Volume Three is better. Because this set up could have so much potential. And with the climax of them going underground could turn in to something pretty cool. Huntress and Powergirl are an odd pairing to have for a comic but if done right it could really, really work. Don't have it that Huntress needs to be saved from literally EVERYTHING and work on developing the readers understanding of their relationship and frankly the significance of the plot. Because those are where the true power of this title lies. Not in Karen Starr's business schedule.

I went ahead and collected a pile of books from this list.
After reading the Huntress book which was bit disappointing, things picked up with Worlds' Finest Volume 1 and then got really exciting with WF Volume 2 Hunt and Be Hunted.
While the art in this series of books is only average at best, it certainly is serviceable.
It's the story in this issue that just really hooked me. No big brawl or monster of the week setups, rather it's a mystery that plays out over a series of issues in this volume, and finishes with big reveal of a classic villian.
I'm chomping at the bit to move onto the next book in the story arc and hope that things keep building!

Another good book. I like that the these two are getting more involved in the DC universe, and his the universe reacts to the. I like how Helena/Huntress blends into the background while Karen/Kara hides in plain sight with all the attention on her.
The girls are getting more involved in the DC universe. Helena even meets her not-brother. However as they get more involved the eyes and enemies the have after them. What happens when the attacks get too personal. Could Powergirl have been right all along?

There are a number of teams working on this book so there are different artwork styles, but the book stays on the same direction. After the devastation at the end here how will these two turn the tables.

On the plus side I can cross this series off my list and move on to something else.
I hate the art. I hate the characterization of Power Girl. I hate that I'm supposed to believe that other superheroes are unaware of their existence. Seriously, the way they avoid Batman and Supergirl in this installment reminded me of the awkwardly empty X-Mansion in the first Deadpool movie, but without the self-aware humor.
There is just nothing here for me.

2.5/5 for me. I was really hoping it would just be worrying about Darkseid stuff and not actually have Darkseid stuff. I know there were Boomtubes, but I had a vain hope maybe they just happened to look like Boomtubes. Rounding up to three for sister-in-arms and not really any romance, but I like my stakes smaller.

I was just saying to a friend the other day how so many of DC's New 52 books, or really any reboot or re-imagining of an existing series, tended to lose interest and originality after the initial few issues (or trade collection). It's as though they had great ideas but couldn't sustain them over time (even as short a time as a year). Happily, World's Finest is one of the exceptions to that rule. This collection (of issues #6-12) may not be quite up to par of the first volume (we'll get to that in a moment), but it's a very fun, enjoyable read that furthers the story of Earth-2's Supergirl and Robin, now known as Power Girl and the Huntress, during their exile on Earth-1. Huntress meets Damian Wayne, the latest Robin, her not-quite brother, only to lose him shortly thereafter. Power Girl encounters someone she first believes to be her former lover, the disappeared Michael Holt, but who turns out to be quite different. The book suffers somewhat from the plethora of artists -- though fortunately all of them are quite good -- and remains strongest when George Perez or Kevin Maguire contribute pencils. Unlike the previous volume, Perez is not the sole artist for the present day adventures, and Maguire doesn't do the art for the flashbacks to Earth-2, 'cause there are no flashbacks to Earth-2 this time. There are flashbacks, but the entire story is set on Earth-1, where Karen and Helena have been for the past five years. Levitz's story and characterizations are consistent, and the crossovers with the rest of the DCU are appropriately scarce -- PG & Huntress are trying to avoid this world's versions of Superman and Batman. All in all, a good trade with somewhat inconsistent, though enjoyable, art and an unfortunate cliffhanger ending.

Firslty, 2 seems a bit harsh. I really feel this novel should be a 2.5. Because it's not a bad novel, just no mindblowing. Graphic novels are hard to write, because the reader has to feel that the pictures on the page are real characters; real people. I didn't quite feel that with this novel. I felt like I was looking at pictures on a page as opposed to reading a story with genuine characters. The art is adequate, but there isn't a prevailing plot here. If I was reading this is single issues, I probably would have taken it off my pull list, simply because I had no idea where the plot was going, who the bad guy was, and what the heroes were fighting for. Now granted, I read this volume without reading the first, but based on the context I had been given from research, almsot none of the interesting aspects of what was sold to me, was prevelant here. I would have preferred this story to focus around the two girls trying to get back home. When in reality, it focuses on them following a money trail someone left after stealing Bruce Wayne's money. Just why? The most exciting part for me, was getting some closure to the character of Mister Terffic, at the end of his first volume. More frustrating, is that the final issue collected in this novel, was actually really interesting, and I was annoyed that the rest had been filler, when the writer clearly showed that he could write well. In all honesty, I was a bit bored reading this, and wouldn't advise reading it unless you are a hardcore Powergirl or Huntress fan. I might pick up the remaining volumes to see where this goes, but I'd rather be reading Mister Terrific again.

Collects Worlds’ Finest issues #6-12
I really like the parallel universe aspect of their story. Best friends stuck in a different world, acting as heroes and creating new lives. It is a lot of fun. Helena meeting Damien was my favorite part of this volume. I like how she refers to Damien as Not-Brother and Bruce as Not-Dad. She hasn’t actually met Bruce yet, but it will be interesting when they finally cross paths. Damien and Helena are a good team, though. Almost as good as Helena and Karen.
(Spoilers) I didn’t know that Michael Holt was the secret identity of Mr. Terrific because I’ve never read a book with Mr. Terrific in it. Because of this, every time his name has come up in various parts of this story, it didn’t mean anything to me. Now I realize that this is the man that was teleported to Earth 2. I know he had his own solo series, and I believe Karen may have made an appearance in it, so I should go back and read those volumes.
I am also realizing that I haven’t read a story with Damien extensively in it until this one, so I was surprised by how he speaks. He is simultaneously smart and childish. I appreciated the emotion that Helena felt when she lost her Not-Brother. This wasn’t a big part of this volume, but I’m glad that they recognized this change in the New 52 Universe.
I remember Desaad from the animated Superman show. This version is much different.

While I don't think this series is a top-tier title in the New 52, I really enjoy it for one basic thing - it is about two awesome ladies kicking ass and doing things their own way. Like most of my favorite titles in comics, aside from a few cameos, this title isn't concerned with anything outside of itself. No tie-in issues, no appearances in other titles; it is just this.
That being said, there wasn't a lot Levitz & co. had to do in this volume to keep me entertained other than sticking to the premise of the first book. However, I won't deny that the story seems to be all over the place here - there were several times I had to stop and remind myself who the baddie of the issue was because we'd jumped from one arc to another without finishing the first thread.
Also, what is going on with Powergirl's costume? I just don't understand why she suddenly switches from the outfit in the first book and most of this second one to her more traditional one in the last issue.
Personally, I plan on continuing with this series at some point, but if you didn't like the first volume, I wouldn't necessarily say this is so much better that you need to give the title another chance.

I got this book hoping there would be a step up from volume 1, sadly it wasn't.
It was a very forgettable story that left me confused on many levels. Switching from scene to scene without really explaining what the hell is going on. The flash backs were alright but were done in a way that was also so confusing. Paul Levitz needs to step up his writing game. As for the main characters I can say I'm only interested in Huntress. I was never familiar with Power Girl pre reboot, but now she just comes across as a whore with the brain of a peanut. More interested in her reflection than anything or anyone else.
This book is neither here not there. If it was a Huntress title I would be interested in following this title, unfortunately it's not. Maybe I'll get the next volume, maybe not. It definitely won't be a priority.

This is a fun book, even if it does still fall back on cheesecake a little too often. Huntress and Power Girl, refugees of Earth-2 living in Earth 1, make for a fun pair of protagonists, and there's even a fair bit of girl power celebration here. They're strong characters, independent and living for their own goals, but they're also afloat in this alternate world. There are some great moments here - Damian and Helena bonding over their semi-sibling relationship, and the banter and interplay between the two is great. Unfortunately. the story kind of rambles; there's no guiding direction until near the end issues, and even when there is a plot it takes back seat to the action. But even with that weakness, it's still a very fun collection (except for a shoehorned crossover moment, that takes up about 6 pages).

The adventures continue in Volume 2 of World's Finest. Both ladies had a chance to shine in their specific field of expertise; Power Girl brought the laser eyes and brute force while Huntress showed both her detective skills and fighting styles. Very nice to see an appearance by Damien and a team up that could have been amazing had it continued past one issue.
We did get more on their backstory and got a new creepy and crazy villain, as well as a cliffhanger ending. I'll be reading the next Volume to finish that story arc, but the book really needs to bring more "heavy-hitters" to the title for brief crossovers.
Recommend, but not as a instant must read.

The hits keep on coming as the girls do their best to find their way home. I like how they are doing their best to avoid their opposite numbers families. Karen avoiding Clark and Helena avoiding Bruce.
But Helena almost breaks it when she encounters Damian. I really loved this part of the story as it shows what Damian really needs is blood to keep him under control. I can definitely see the resemblance between the two.
Karen finds someone dubious attempting to go for her and she does what she can. I'll admit that in the end I am happy that she goes back to her original costume. Yeah, I'm a guy.

The only reason for a slightly lesser rating on this volume is that it felt too short. The book ended and I felt like it was on the same note that the story started. One thing that I do like about these comics is that the story remains consistent. Some comics are more episodic, with a variety of stories bundled together. I don't mind that, but in this case, there is one overarching theme and here it is compelling enough to sustain my interest. I do look forward to them encountering their counterparts though!

The story was twitchy. Power Girl switched back to her old costume (why? who knows. New52 cannot seem to make up its mind about how daring it dares to be). The beginning was very promising with a certain young and brash hero in it, but he soon disappeared (for good?) and interestingly even though Huntress had a brief bonding moment with said character, it did not seem to change anything. I can't seem to drift away from this title (please, no more discontinuations) so I'll be coming back for more like a dope-fiend.
