I could not finish this book. The writer needs to RESEARCH the Amish. The behavior, actions, statements, prideful, vain, etc. Is just wrong. An Amish father telling a daughter that she is the family TREASURE. I cannot recommend this book. If you love an Amish story, save your time.
A very short book. I'm very disappointed with these books. These books are without end and to continue the story you have to buy and read the next book.
This was shorter than I thought it would be--I'd probably call it a serial novel or perhaps a short story rather than a novel in its own right.
The Schroeder family moves from Indiana to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania to take over a deceased relative's farm. Nothing seems to make the father happy, and I do have to wonder if the kids are right in that no one will ever measure up as good enough for his oldest daughter.
Hannah and Abram seem to be two New Order kids living in an Old Order Amish family. I'm guessing Abram hasn't had his rumpschpringa yet--or he'd be gone. Either that or he is loyal to Hannah and won't leave until she's settled. Hannah seems to hold some resentment against her older sister's status in the family.
There is too much detail where it doesn't matter. And words are often reported only in some places. Where they wouldn't be in real life. Less they have a stutter. But that's unlikely. since its only in some places. Like she was trying to fill in so many words she needed to publish the book. The book was good. But poorly written. Also she tells the story as if she was a outsider looking in. Not Actually one of the characters in the story. And not any Amish words. You can tell she was telling the story from a Englishers point of view. this story would have been better. If it had more of a back story. Before they moved there. and not told like it was in such a rush. Like everything was all in one or two days. But sounded as if it was over time. And 99.9% of Amish court over time. Before they dare to be close to each other or go for rides. Or talk about being together. Or kiss or hug. This book. Had 0% Research done. Before she wrote this hasty written book.
Rebecca is the oldest and the pride of the family. She must marry first, as if any man were good enough for Daed's approval.
Hannah is twenty-one. She is old enough go fall in love, which she has. But she can't marry because Rebecca must marry first. Who came up with that rule anyway?
Abram is the youngest, and Hannah's only friend in the family. And I have a feeling he will also not please his parents when he is grown.
I really enjoyed this Amish novella and I am anxious to read the next book in the series. The storyline in this book was not a carbon copy of other books; it was fresh and unique, making the book an interesting read. This family was rather strange or different than the Amish families in the hundreds of Amish books I have read. It seems rather unusual for the Amish to favor one child and treat their other children so poorly. I felt sorry for Hannah and Abram being treated so badly by their own family. I enjoyed reading about Abram's misadventures as a juggler, which also seems unusual for an Amish young person.
I all definitely be reading more of this author's work. I highly recommend these books to anyone who enjoys Amish fiction.
This was a short book; I'd call it a 1/2 portion of a book. I throughly enjoyed this. It was slightly making fun of parents who favor one of their children above the others. Sometimes it's the baby of the family, sometimes it's the eldest. It's never the middle child, that is for sure in fiction and in real life.
The parents ignore Hannah who is 20, or 21 yrs old, and their eldest daughter (Rebecca) I think her name is, is Gods gift (in the parents eyes). This is a very good read. Wonder what the rest of the series has in store?
Although this is a short novella, you are able to gain an insight into Hannah. I found myself feeling sorry for her older sister and hope that she will find love in her near future. Also, I feel that learning more about her parents and why they are the way they are would be nice in a future book. I really liked Hannah and her younger brother, but didn't like what I saw regarding her other family members and that is why I would like to see a little more about them in future books in this series.
A father regaurds the eldest daughter as the family jewell while disregarding the younger daughter and son. He becomes furious when he realizes his plan for his eldest daughter to be the first to marry and I'm glad, he treated the younger children terrible. I guess I'll need to read the remaining books to see what happens.
This is a fairly good read, but I think the behaviors are not customary of Amish. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's just my opinion.
A very interesting book, but it leaves you not knowing what's happening, so you don't have a choice but to purchase the rest of the series. it is a very good book though.
It was a very interesting book, I enjoyed reading it very much, however it leaves you hanging, therefore you have no choice but to purchase the rest of the series to find out what's going on, I really did enjoyed it though.
Overall I enjoyed this book. Unlike so many of the Amish stories (especially the freebies offered on Amazon.com), this one was written pretty well. Too many are simplistic, as if a teenager wrote them rather than a person with the gift of writing. The ending tied everything up a bit too perfectly and easily, but then again, it is a book. It was a good, quick read.
Rebecca Price has a unique way of getting her readers interested! This set is a wonderful read, with a new girl in town, competing with her older sister and Lilly, who has always been in love with her friend who becomes interested in the "new girl". Interesting throughout!!!
This Amish book is different than others. Hannah does not live in a loving family rather her parents are devoted to her older sister leaving her and her younger brother to manage themselves. Nothing changes when they move to a new town except Hanah find love in a young man. As with many Amish stories this book is way too short
I didn't realize this story was so short. I feel the relationship between Simon and Hannah happened to fast, they barely knew each other and were in love? I don't understand why another write story's this short?
This is a short story Amish romance in which Hannah Schroeder meets Simon Troyer when her family moves from Indiana to Lancaster. Simple plot, interesting characters, and a glimpse into the Amish lifestyle.
The book itself was pretty good, but just as the plot started thickening, the book ended. I was left dangling. The plot was in the process of being revealed, then nothing. It almost seemed like a ploy to get people to buy the next book.
I love this book, it was awesome... I loved how Hannah was the out cast and then a man fell in love with her.. inspite of everyone trying to make her feel unworthy of love...
I DNF this book. It feels like the author knows little to nothing about the Amish community. More research needs to be done; or better yet, write about what you do know.
