Armed and Outrageous

Agnes Barton is not your typical senior citizen living in Tadium, MI, on the shores of Lake Huron. She drives a red hot Mustang, shops at Victoria's Secret, rankles local police officials, and has a knack for sticking her nose where it doesn't belong.

What does a murder that happened forty-three years ago have to do with missing tourist Jennifer Martin? Agnes makes it her personal mission to find out, and she's not letting the fact she's seventy-two get in the way. Butting heads with Sheriff Clem Peterson is something she's accustomed to, but lately Clem seems to be acting even more strange, making Agnes wonder what he may be hiding ala the Martin disappearance.

Agnes’ partner in crime, Eleanor Mason tags along, Watson to her Holmes.
Together, they unearth clues. If only Eleanor would behave, as although lovable, she has a knack for getting into trouble by tangling with her rival, Dorothy Alton, or flirting with anyone—male or female—and gossiping! She's incorrigible, but she does carry a Pink Lady revolver in her purse, one that has proved useful at times.

Life for Agnes and Eleanor is shaken up when Agnes' former boss and secret crush comes to Tadium. Before long, the lady sleuths have more on their hands to contend with as goons roll into town and bullets begin to fly.

Adult content.

Grannies, Guns and Ghosts

Senior snoop, Agnes Barton, has taken up residence in a Winnebago at a campground in East Tawas, Michigan. It’s not the ideal place for a woman of seventy-two to live, but she’s making do. She had planned to start a detective agency with partner in crime, Eleanor Mason, but a snag with the license has them free wheeling it, not that it matters because they are the ones folks call when dead bodies turn up.

A frantic phone call has Agnes and Eleanor racing to the scene of yet another crime scene. Herman Butler has fallen to his death from a third story window, and the widow, Betty Lou, is beside herself with either grief or competing for the Oscars, and it’s up to Agnes and Eleanor to unravel the mystery, which gets more interesting when a ghost is listed as a possible suspect.

This time around, Agnes and Sheriff Peterson can agree, the widow is nuts, but wait, a few days later the ghost ship, Erie Board of Trades, was spotted off the shores of Lake Huron. Ghost hunters, G.A.S.P., hightail it into town, and East Tawas is overrun with ghost sightings.

Agnes and Eleanor must sort fact from fantasy before another body is found or a curse is realized.

Senior Snoops

True to his words, Sheriff Clem Peterson sends Agnes Barton and Eleanor Mason packing to Florida via a Cessna, but things go haywire when during a fuel stop, two men shoot the pilot. Agnes springs into action slamming the door just as shots are fired while Frank Alton jumps into the cockpit flying them out of there.

When they land in Florida, they’re asked tough questions by Putner and Palmer from Homeland Security. They keep asking if they found a packet on board the plane, a packet that Agnes has tucked in her purse, but they never mention what’s in the packet. She decides to hold onto it; after all it contains twenty-five thousand in cash.

Sheriff Calvin Peterson, Sheriff Clem Peterson’s brother, picks them up from the airport in Florida, but tells them the bad news. His brother Clem made arrangements for them to stay at Sunny Brooke Retirement Village and work as the hired help to pay for their room and board. They go unwillingly, but discover in town that two maids have disappeared at Sunny Brooke.

When Madison Johns began writing at the age of forty-four, she never imagined she'd make it onto the USA Today best-selling books list with her first cozy mystery, Armed and Outrageous, as an independent author. Sure, this book is an Amazon bestseller, but USA Today?

Although sleep-deprived from working third shift, she knew if she used what she had learned while caring for senior citizens to good use, it would result in something quite unique. The Agnes Barton Senior Sleuths mystery series has forever changed Madison's life, with each of the books making it onto the Amazon bestseller's list for cozy mystery and humor.

Madison is a member of Sisters In Crime. Madison is now able to do what she loves best and work from home as a full-time writer. She has two children, a black lab, and a hilarious Jackson Chameleon to keep her company while she churns out more Agnes Barton stories with a few others brewing in the pot.

Well, I have finished with the first combined book that encompassed books 1-3. I have to admit that it was fun. By reading the books this way I was able to watch the characters grow into believable people. The story became more and more real. I felt the humor the author sprinkled in as hugs from a friend.

I bought them all individually but chose to read the books with the box set so as to get more deeply into Madison Johns's cozy mysteries. Besides, when I find someone doing what I think is right, I try to support them with my money, meager as it is. In this case, I had been researching stories that featured older womyn. I don't like mysteries, especially the murder-y kind. I would rather read science fiction or fantasy with crones, senior ladies, being the ones getting to have the adventures. When I think that the baby boomers are the largest generation, then having stories about us, especially the womyn, should be easy to find. But alas, that isn't the case. Anyway, that is how I found this series and invested into it.

Cozy isn't the word I would apply to murder of any sort. These books do contain that wicked element. But the author doesn't spend time dredging up the blood or other details I'd rather not have in my head before going to sleep. The thrill is in watching the main characters sort through the facts and figure out the whodunnit and why. So I suppose that is how it rates the 'cozy mystery' tag.

These are great beach reads or quiet reads to accompany tea. One needs lighter reads like that, occasionally. By the way, I do have the next boxed set ready to read but I have a lot on my read-to-review shelf that I need to read first. I do plan to continue enjoying Aggie and El again, soon.

Great mystery story, sad they weren’t intelligent enough to use intelligent words instead of slang and nasty.

Great mystery story, sad they weren’t intelligent enough to use intelligent words instead of slang and nasty language. The book had a great plot, and it used the right amount of mystery and humor to produce a really great book. To bad it sounded more like a few almost but not quite adults trying to make it an R rated book. If the characters had spoken with intelligence like the people I know and talk with it could have been a great book! I read book 1, paid for book 2 and 3, but won’t be reading them. It’s a waist of my time. Sad 😞

Entertaining and irresistible ladies.

Two ladies in the “winter” of their years take the reader on one adventure after another. Proving there is always love and more life to live no matter what age you are.

Good stories except the last which felt hurried and a little disjointed at the end. Still was a fun read

Quirky and funny

I have read only book number 1 so in this series, but it was so good.

Agnes and Eleanor make a great senior team of sleuths trying to clean up the town they live in.

Agnes' granddaughter, Sophia, has been missing for a year and she is still looking everywhere for her. Now another girl is missing and the Senior Sleuths are on the case. Jennifer Martin is the daughter of a very wealthy businessman and he comes to town to help look for her.

That's when all of the trouble starts for the "girls" they get into trouble everywhere they go.

The rest of the story you will have to read because you will not believe what these two widows can get done. It is a good read.

My Girls

I loved those two ladies, Agnes and Eleanor. They are full of so much life like a lot of seniors. No writing them off and putting them in a nursing home. This is the third story I've read and couldn't put out down. It was funny, had sex, mystery and love. Mr Wilson, Andrew and Peterson really added to my enjoyment of these books, never knew when they would show up or where. And Mr Wilson was a hot mess him and his Eleanor. There is love after 60, 70 and even 80, as long as you're alive never stop living. Would recommend these books to those who enjoy laughter, a mystery and a little romance thrown in. Keep up the good work Ms Madison Johns.

Love the story; cannot stand the grammatical errors

Love the story; cannot stand the grammatical errors

The senior snoop stories are great as far as the stories themselves go. The grammatical errors however, are inexcusable of an 8th grader much less a published author!
For the life of me, I cannot understand why no one has proofread or edited these books! Just pay an English teacher to help you out, PLEASE! It would make these books so much more enjoyable to read.
Those things alone are why I give these books 3 stars and not 4 or 5. Get a proofreader.

What a trio of GREAT stories!!!!!!!!

If you can believe it, I actually trad this book until 9AM one morning! I just couldn't put it down.
Each story touches on some pretty serious issues but Madison Johns makes them very funny.
Agnes and Eleanor, (Aggie and Eli) are two very savvy senior citizens, Eli a lot more so. The stuff they come across in each story brings out the sleuths in them. This may even include their own detective agency along the way .
I would give this 10 stars if I could.
The stories are so well written that its difficult to figure out who did it.

Great shorts

Exciting stories about two senior sleuths. Each is a complete storyline, with full characters and lots of mystery to boot. Can't wait to start the next series of shorts.
