WAR IS HELL!!! It has been said millions of times throughout history. For Snoe Gainey, it is a phrase with a deeper meaning. Humanity has survived twenty years after the dead began to walk only to be brought to the edge of extinction by its own hand. But there is more... Ghosts from the past rise up one final time...mystic prophecies from the Native Americans are whispered...a zombie/human hybrid that embodies pure evil, and the last showdown to determine the fate of every living soul. All of this await in Snoe's Journey.
Tucked away in the Pacific Northwest with my wife Denise, a Border Collie named Aoife, a guitar collection, and an increasing number of aquariums sporting a variety of fish (cichlids are my new favorites), I live for football season when I can cheer on the Oregon Ducks and be disappointed by my Seattle Seahawks once again. I am a fan of Cookie Monster, KISS, and Dr. Who (along with most things British).
As a person who always dreamed of writing as well as one completely enthralled by all things zombie, it is hard to believe that I never once considered writing in the genre. It is true. I wanted to be more “mainstream”. The first novel I actually wrote is titled Dakota (as Todd Brown). It is about a pair of DEA types tossed back in time to just prior to the start of the Civil War. They are in Charleston, South Carolina, and one of them is an African-American.
The zombie thing really started when I wrote a short for a college Creative Writing class. The teacher, Ms. Bose, pulled me up and told me I had an obvious love for the subject and a real talent for the style. I decided to give it a shot.
The first thing I cobbled together was Zomblog. I wrote it as a warm up for the project I had brewing in the back of my mind. It is a journal account of the apocalypse. The funny thing is that it was never intended to be published. A few things happened and it ended up being presented to me as a gift in book format by my wife for a Christmas present. There was something I will never forget about holding the copy of that book in my hand the first time. Because it gained a readership, and those readers asked for more, I made it a trilogy (Zomblog, Zomblog II, and Zomblog: The Final Entry). It is also because of those fans that I have returned to the Zomblog universe and just released the sixth (and FINAL) book in the series on Halloween of 2013: Zomblog: Snoe's Journey. I freely admit that I will sellout my plans to write what the fans ask for.
I really want my DEAD series to be what I am known for, and in the last year, it has really taken off. However, I will say that with the release of the fourth book in the DEAD series (DEAD: Winter), the numbers started to pick up beyond my wildest dreams.
The DEAD series (DEAD: The Ugly Beginning, DEAD: Revelations, and DEAD: Fortunes & Failures, DEAD: Winter, DEAD: Siege & Survival, DEAD: Confrontation, DEAD: Reborn) is scheduled to be a 12 part epic series.
It is told in three rotating chapters. One is from the first person perspective of Steve Hobart, a man thrust into the role of leader for a group of survivors struggling to keep alive. One chapter follows a group of four self-professed zombie “geeks” who initially believe that the zombie apocalypse would be fun and soon discover that it is nothing like the movies. The third of the rotating chapters is called “Vignettes” and is a series of snapshots from all around the world. Some of the vignettes are single chapter episodes, others are continuing threads that carry on for several chapters. A few are merged into the Steve story or the Geek story line.
Last year,I began my horror/comedy series, "That Ghoul Ava" and have found it to be my new guilty pleasure.
It feels like the author sighed and said, okay, just one more book... and then proceeded to write half a book and couldn't be bother finishing the main story line so just threw in a couple of other "when the zombie apocalypse" started stories for one character from earlier books and some random.
There was no real climax, just a few battles that were "unbelievable" to his own characters. And having the main character lose her hand at the end, well, what can I say, but I have read The Walking Dead comics and seen what happens to the main character there. I wonder where he got the idea from?
I really loved this series, but the last book just insulted me.
I loved this series. It's one of my favorites. If you haven't read TW Brown's work, I highly recommend it. I'm sad to see this one end, but look forward to reading more from Mr. Brown. His Dead series is awesome as well.
Our story opens with Snoe and her guide traveling to Oklahoma but in reality, Snoe wonders if she will ever get there. They ride Shetland ponies, which is a new experience for Snoe, and gets her sore in places she’s never been sore in before. Reaching a tribal outpost outside old world Dillon Colorado, Snoe meets Angel Snow Owl, an Elder of The Confederated Tribes. Angel delivers a note from Eric Grey Feather, the Chief Elder. The note describes Snoe’s birth mother Meredith as ”the bringer of death” and Snoe as “the bringer of life”. Her father, Samuel Todd is well-respected and is said to have the gentle spirit of Black Elk alive in him. Eric knows that Snoe is not aware of a Native prophesy, and must be protected until the rise of the 7th generation. Answers are not forthcoming, which only leaves Snoe in a state of confusion.
Upon returning to Corridor 26, scouts report that General Carson is putting the city of Las Vegas to siege. From this point on the focus is solely on General Carson and the attempts to defeat him and his army. Throughout this volume, Snoe is learning of, and accepting her connection with Native Americans. With this understanding, her spirit and courage has grown considerably. From timidity she is becoming a leader. The final confrontation with General Carson is brutally descriptive and poignant. Snoe’s emotions are laid bare, and she is faced with the realities of leadership. My opinions about Snoe have changed drastically! Afterwards, Snoe reflects upon the battle. Without them doing what they had done, the Era of the Anomalies would have begun. Snoe now wants to relax and finally discover who she is. Not that Native blood should define who she is, but to understand her culture. She is still just eighteen years old and wants to ultimately decide who she is. If this journal is found, I hope it provides you with something useful. In conclusion, the two additional epilogue stories? Too little, too late.
WAR IS HELL!!! AND THIS BOOK IS AWESOME!!! Zomblog: Snoe’s Journey is the final chapter in the Zomblog saga. Author Todd Brown delivers yet again with this final installment. I picked this book up as soon as it came out on Amazon. The final story of in the Zomblog universe blew me away. I have absolutely loved this series and its humanity and its zombieity (if you will). Snoe’s Journey was a fitting end to such a great series. I am sad to see the tale finally end though. As always Todd’s characters are very well written and makes you feel real emotion for them, from love to hate and everything in between. The Zomblog story comes full circle in this last awesome book. Expect for some pretty awesome plot twists as things unfold. As is normal with Mr. Brown, his books are more about the impacts of the Zombie apocalypse on humanity as opposed to just slaughtering zombies like you see normally. Prepare yourself to see the best and worst of humanity illustrated within these pages. Also, thanks to the author for allowing the inclusion of my short story into your book. I really appreciated the chance to be a part of things. As always the author puts his fans at the forefront.
If you have been a fan of this series, then definitely pick this up and give go. I assure you that you will love it. If you haven’t yet read this series and are reading this review then go pick up the first volumes and try it out! I highly recommend this book. 5 stars.
What a nice ending to such an amazing zombie series! It gives a nice close and even a small look into other people who were briefly in the background but such an important part of the events in a whole! A must read and I'm so sad the series is over. Maybe someday someone will write fan fictions to continue the amazing Zomblog series.
