Rate this book
Sarah Crepley is used to a simple life at home with her emotionally distant parents and her sister, Rose. When Rose faces a tragic situation, it becomes blatantly obvious that Sarah has a much different relationship with her parents than Rose does. Tired of feeling invisible to those around her, Sarah heeds the advice of her sister and looks down a different path for her life... becoming a mail order bride.

Charlie Huntereen never intended to become a man who lies, but after receiving no written responses from the truth, he decides to leave out the fact that he does indeed have a daughter. He has faith that the right woman will understand why he did what he had to do. When he receives Sarah's letter and discovers that she understands his loneliness, he can't fathom writing back to her with the truth...

Will Sarah stay in Kansas to fulfill her commitment to a man who lied to her? Or will she board a train and face a life of loneliness? True Love West is a novel that yanks at the heartstrings, and makes you question whether you could trust your heart once it has already been broken.

True Love West (Mail Order Romance #5) by Claire Charlins
D+, blaze, no kink, historical, 147 pages

Sarah feels lonely and ignored at home, all the attention is turned toward her older sister.  Add that to the fact that there's a shortage of men in the area and Sarah sees a bleak future stretching out before her.  When her sister suggests becoming a mail order bride, Sarah hesitantly agrees to look at some of the adds.  And then she reads Charlie's letter and knows that he's the one.  He feels lonely and invisible as well.  Sarah boards a train, anxious to meet Charlie.  When she arrives she discovers that Charlie has kept a secret-he has an infant daughter.  How can she marry a man who has lied to her?

I love, love, love a mail order bride romance.  From my first, Love Comes Softly by Janette Oke, right through my more recent reads like the erotic Bride Train series by Reece Butler. I just can't seem to get enough.  That being said...

This one was filled with tons and tons of emotional drama for Sarah.  Seriously.  She spent days agonizing over whether or not she could marry Charlie after he had lied to her, while we, the reader, could tell the decision had already been made.

What I typically like in a mail order read is watching as the hero and heroine become acquainted and figure out how they'll fit into each other's lives.  Sadly, there was none of that in this book.  Charlie was practically a saint, other than his one lie.  There seemed to be no adjustment at all for either of them.  It was all about Sarah having to make her decision.

The sex in this book barely warrants mentioning.  If Lauara Ingalls Wilder had written an erotic romance, I think the sex scenes would have read similar to this one. In fact, the writing style, in general, reminded me of the Little House books.

If you're like me, and enjoy mail order bride stories, you may like this one.  Just prepare yourself for lots of drama and rather dull sex.

1 ster

True Love West by Claire Charlins AKA Karolyn James is a nice western read. Sarah lives with her parent, Albert and Ester, and her sister Rose. This could have been a 4 or 5 star book. Concept not bad. But first Ms. Charlins must and I mean MUST have someone read the book before publishing. She needs to run a grammatical check to find things like "Her screamed..."

How about a check for the surname through out the book? Jonsten??? Really!

If you are writing a book set in a historical period, make sure you doing use sayings that scream 20th century.

She is knitting but pushes a "needle" into a finger & pricks it. Hummmm. Did the author mix up knitting & sewing. It would be HARD to prick your finger with a knitting needle.

Note to authors: ERRORS take the reader away from the story. Too many errors plus a weak story or an unbelievable action by a main character & you end up with a 1 or 2 star book.

This was a story that had potential, but it was very poorly written. I generally love mail order bride stories if the characters come off like real people, but the critters in this story do not. They were flat, their dialogue and behaviors were so strange and unnatural, and the responses just seemed to come from out in left field somewhere. I felt no involvement in their lives and feelings and could care less what happened to them, which made for a rather empty, boring read. Too many things made no sense at all. You've heard of love at first sight, well, this is love at first letter, with a heroine who doesn't even have enough sense to send a telegram that she was coming.

Good Stormy

Good Stormy

I really enjoyed the story berry much. The characters are so well described that you feel like you know them. The only reason I did not give this 5 stars was that for the first couple of chapters the writing seemed a little choppy. I w a s boot surprising e if I would finish reading it for this reason but the characters were so good I decided I would give it a chance and continue reading. As I read things got smother and by. The end I really enjoyed it. I am glad I gave this a chance e.

I decided to give this a chance since I really enjoy mail order bride stories. Some of their stories are amazing. This one wasn't. The characters were not well developed and there were so many errors, especially toward the end of the story. I found it to be slow moving, dull and boring. The writing is amateurish and full of one line phrases with few descriptions.

Charlie and Sarah

Charlie and Sarah

A nice story that I actually liked. The reason I am rating it low is because of the numerous grammatical errors - words used incorrectly, nonsense sentences if you didn't fill the correct word in, improper tenses, etc.

A good read.

A good read.

if you love to read mail order brides' stories, don't miss this one. Emotional, sensitive and predictable with characters that love and care for one another.

Not completely clean, but mostly. Only a touch of a sex scene. However, the whole story felt stilted and forced.

I liked this sweet faith based story. A woman becomes a mail order bride and falls in love.....but not how you think. Short and sweet
