I enjoyed this reading plan. I read through the Old Testament once, the Psalms twice, and the New Testament twice. Highly recommend this plan.

IMPORTANT: HERE I AM NOT RATING THE BIBLE (OR THE TRANSLATION), BUT THE M'CHEYNE READING PLAN.

It has been several years now that I have read my Bible once a year, but this is the first time I have used this method for a whole year, and I found it super hard to enjoy and to study, and meditating on the Scripture was much harder. Why? Because you only read one chapter of four different books every day, and many times the coherence of the passage is lost. For example, many times the portion you are scheduled to read starts with "therefore..." and just right there you lose all context; or other times the story line is broken abruptly and it is hard to follow closely.

I understand why many people who would like to read the Bible in a year and choose this method become weary (and bored, maybe?) and discouraged. I would suggest that they read the Bible book by book (normally I like to read one book from the OT and one from the NT -reading the Psalms and the NT at least twice every year) and doing so dive deeper into the story line, into the gospels, into the epistles. Being steeped in the Bible narrative should be a joy, so find a method that helps you understand it better and enjoy it more.

While I read this book on the regular, I completed it cover to cover with a daily reading Bible this year. It is truly a living book that transforms us from the inside out!

This is a great idea, a Bible with a reading plan that guides me gently and meaningfully through OT and New Testament readings each day. A daily reading takes about 15 minutes so this is very available to all of us. The man who designed these readings is a Scottish pastor, Robert M’Cheyne (1813-1843). Yes, he lived only 30 years and left us a brilliant legacy in this plan to read the Bible in a year. When we follow it we will read the Old Testament once and the Psalms and New Testament twice (the New Testament is much shorter). Thank you Pastor M’Cheyne. If you think reading the Bible in a year is too hard, do yourself a big favor, buy this Bible and begin reading.

I bought this only because it was on sale for $5.00. I see why now - it is horribly arranged. You have to skip all around. I was so used to MacArthur's Daily Bible that had your reading for each day together in 365 chapters that this one was quickly set aside. I'm not anti-ESV at all. It's my preferred translation. It's just the poor formatting and this one was a waste of $5.00.

What can I say bout this book? Well, I think it's divine revelation from a personal God revealing Himself to humanity. So, it's everything really. It is simply "the book." But yes, this addition is really lovely. I read it on my Kobo Sage and it allows me to just pull it up and read that day. Mcheyne (or however you spell it) plan is absolutely life-changing. If I miss a day I just go to the current day and keep reading. Its a fair amount of content each day, but it really allows you to know the Bible well and have a cohesive overview of the story.

I think everyone, Christian or not, should probably be reading the Bible every single day. Think of what that would do to our world!

I enjoyed this Bible in a year reading plan. I like that it takes you through the New Testament and Psalms twice. Though I'll admit that the Bible in a year concept as a whole isn't my favorite, because it becomes a chore to read as much as you can and to stay on track rather than soaking in and meditating on Gods word.

I've tried to read the Bible using McCheyne's reading plan before but never got very far. This Kindle version made it so easy. It enabled me to develop the habit of daily Bible reading this year. So I can say I have read through the Bible this year. I'm thankful for that!

I have loved using this paperback Bible as my daily and travel Bible! I picked up my copy free at a resale shop a couple years ago and have used it ever since. I love how each day's reading is marked by the date on the side of the page, making it easy to find and remember where you are up to. I also noticed that having this daily reading goal made me incredibly diligent at reading my Bible! I know it's the heart that matters most, but having goals like this work well. Because I desired to read the Bible through this year, if I missed a day I made sure I caught up the next day!
I loved how the daily reading allotments weren't piddly but rather were more than two chapters per day.
When using this Bible, you can choose to either just read the entire Bible in a year or read the entire Bible and Psalms and the New Testament twice each. I usually opt for the former plan in order to have more time to concentrate on what I'm reading!
I also really enjoyed the translation- ESV. It's sound yet easy to digest.

I am NOT giving the Bible three stars! The three stars go to this specific “through the Bible in a year” plan. Reading through the Bible in a year is something I’ve done many times. Never have I been as disappointed in the plan than I have been with the ESV plan. Interestingly, the ESV is my favorite version. But with their plan you read one chapter from four different sections of the Bible. It ends up being very disjointed and even confusing at times. I did “hang in there” all the way through. But, can not recommend their plan, and will never repeat their plan. On to a better organized “through the Bible in a year” for 2019!

**update 12/31/2023 - Never say never! I should have read my own review on January 1, 2023! For reasons unknown I decided to give this reading plan a try again. While I stuck with it the entire year, it did not change my thinking! I love reading the Bible through every year. Will try to be "smart" enough to not repeat this plan again. It's just too disjointed!

When I ordered this bible I was getting it because I had decided that I wanted an ESV for my daily reading. I didn't realize that the "Daily Reading Bible" was named that way because it is actually designed for its reader to read through the bible in a year. Within the margins are dates for the readings to be done on each particular day. Each day has readings from the Old Testament, the New Testament, and Psalms. It is perfect because I began the new year with a plan to read the bible through this year. The only reason I'm not giving this bible 5 stars is because the font is rather small in my opinion. Other than the font, I am very happy with this bible.

I have used other "one year" bible in the past but what I really like about this one is the way it's arranged like most other bible so I can use it in worship services and find scriptures quickly. I also like it because my hardcover version has 3 ribbon markers so I have no need of keeping up with separate book markers.

A life changing read... I love reading the bible each day... well worth a read

Packed with so much information about a loving God who desires us to love him, and yet when we don’t, still does everything possible to give us a way to restore the broken relationship. We either accept God’s free gift or we don’t… and then accept the consequences that comes with our decision.

I enjoyed the ESV version--new to me. I did not enjoy the format of a chapter a day from 4 separate books. It was too disjointed. So I ended up leaving "the plan" in favor of simply reading through the books in larger chunks and with no more that two different books on any given day.
