When medium Tess Schafer hears of a tombstone marked with images of a witch's curse, she decides to investigate the supernatural legend.

From the moment she arrives in the small town of Bucksport, Maine, Tess begins experiencing intriguing paranormal activity and now more than ever, she's determined to solve the mystery surrounding town founder Jonathan Buck and his cursed graveside monument.

Hindering things, however, is strong, imposing male spirit. Who is he, what does he want and how in the world is he connected to the curse?

He's not her only problem, however, for her presence hasn't gone unnoticed among the rest of Bucksport's ghosts. Although she's getting more than she bargained for, Tess reasons the place is haunted for a reason and she means to find out what it is.

One thing for sure, the town has secrets and its ghosts have decided it's time to bring those secrets to light.

From the first book in the Tess Schafer-Medium series "Be Still, My Love" to this second adventure in "Hidden Voices", Tess is learning to hone her medium skills and converse effectively with the dead. In book 3 Vanquishing Ghosts Tess's faith in her ability is sorely tested! Book 4, Rosemary's Ghosts, will put Tess through her most terrifying experience yet!

About the author

Deborah J. Hughes

An avid reader and writer throughout most of her life (from the time she learned to do both!), Deborah took a detour from her writing dreams to pursue a career in the United States Air Force. That took up over twenty years of her life and gave her lots of experiences, some good, some bad but all of it worthwhile! Her military life now behind her, Deborah is focused on bringing her stories into existence through the production of her novels. All six books in her Tess Schafer-Medium series have made it onto Amazon's top-selling book lists for their genre. She and her character Tess have become pretty tight and she hopes to continue telling her stories for a long time to come! Not limited to just writing novels, Deborah also has a blog and it is there that she writes about a variety of topics. Her motto is: If curiosity killed the cat, reincarnation brought him back! Yeah, she believe in life after death, reincarnation and past lives...among other things. She figures it best not to limit herself when it comes to her beliefs.

I really enjoyed reading Hidden Voices. The story is very well written and characters are well developed. With a lot of mysteries, you can figure out the mystery way before you're halfway through the book. Not in Hidden Voices. The mystery is so well woven, there is no way to figure it out until close to the end! The history behind the storyline is very interesting too. Although, a few times, I had to reread certain parts just to figure out who someone was because some of the characters' names were so similar. Other than my confusion in trying to keep up with the ancestry, I give Hidden Voices a solid A!

This book takes Place in Maine, although fictional, it has historical information about the Town of Bucksport. The Book will at times keep you guessing and confuse, yet intrigue you. A good Mystery, one which will keep you reading. A Great Read.

Good of its kind

I did enjoy this tale about a natural medium who uncovers a family's past. It is well written, and the characters are well developed and likable. There is not quite as much adventure as in the first book which involved a lot of crawling about in secret passages and a cave in or two, but the ghosts are more active in this one. There are still a few editing issues, but overall improved from the first book. I definitely plan to read book three.

Fast, fun read. Likable characters. So far I like the series.

And this is just my own OCD but used the wrong form of effect/affect a couple of times.

medium

This is the second 'ghost' book I have read written by Deborah Hughes and I have loved both of them. The main character, Tess, is a medium who uncovers the reasons for hauntings. Both books have held my interest throughout? Although about ghosts they're not scary, just very interesting. Recommend!

Love this author!

The second of the series, her well developed characters are becoming old friends. The story grabs you and propels you forward til the end. It is an awesome story, a very entertaining read. I highly recommend to anyone seeking a light, happy, and peaceful break with reality, a mini-vacation from your own world. Fun read!

This author does an excellent job of writing and her research skills are awesome, just enough historical references without becoming an info dump. I would've given this 5 stars had it not been for the constant sappy drooling over her new love and the never-ending references to her first story. Other than that, it was a great story and I would recommend it.

This is a good paranormal ghost story and I would read more by this author. She does, however, need a different editor, or at least someone who is able to proof read and pick out all the grammatical and spelling errors.
