I've been writing as long as I can remember and all of my stories always held a thread of romance (even when I was writing about a prince who could shoot lasers out of his eyes). I love creating unique characters, love giving them happy endings and I even love the voices in my head. There's no other job I would rather be doing. In September 2002, when I got the call that Silhouette Desire wanted to buy my first book, Desert Warrior, it was a dream come true. I hope to continue living the dream until I keel over of old age on my keyboard.

I was born in Fiji and raised in New Zealand. I also spent three years living and working in Japan, during which time I took the chance to travel around Asia. I’m back in New Zealand now, but I’m always plotting new trips. If you’d like to see some of my travel snapshots, have a look at the Travel Diary page (updated every month).

So far, I've worked as a lawyer, a librarian, a candy factory general hand, a bank temp and an English teacher and not necessarily in that order. Some might call that inconsistency but I call it grist for the writer's mill.

This was the story of Noel, one of the loyal to Archangel Raphael vampires, and Nimra, a 600 years old angel who has the territory of New Orleans. Noel was hurt and tortured in the second book of the series and has been recovering ever since. At this time he is physically well, but the brokenness is on the inside and he does not think that he will ever recover the gentleness you used to carry in his soul.

Nimra has the reputation of a tough ruler, holding her lands with an iron fist. As Noel thinks, just another heartless immortal, finding their fun in toying with the humans and vamps in their service. He was very surprised to find a beautiful woman, not only on the inside, but within as well, who keeps the people loyal to her by caring and devotion, rather cruelty, and punished those who trespass or err only with a strong of a punishment as the crime requires. Her gentleness to all living creatures and her love for those around her, despite of their mortality and the pain it brings her when they are gone, lets him trust again, and awakens the soft feelings of his heart, which he had thought lost for ever...

The story is short, but very sweet and gentle. It is a nice addition to the Guild Hunter world and gives us a look at an Angel, who despite the longevity and power has retained the ability to love, care and cherish all around her. A nice change, for sure!

I wish all Happy Reading and may you always find joy in the pages of a book!!!

I love that feeling of when you read the first page of a book and you already feel captivated. ✨

This is only 80 pages, but I already cried in like 3 different places. The depth of the emotions these characters brought in me was a shock. I am just so invested in Noel and Nimra’s story. I dare say that for a novella, it rivals the craftsmanship of the original story, delivering a thoughtful, heartfelt plotline in such few pages.

Noel and Nimra’s novella is probably my favorite so far out of the 3 other pairs’ novellas up to this point. I respect Nalini Singh for always creating a good build up and always, always emphasizing the respect any relationship ought to have. Bravo for healthy depictions of relationships! No matter that it’s in a technically “unrealistic” context because it’s paranormal. These characters are incredibly well-developed – it is so easy to empathize with them.

I have just finished reading Ashwini and Janvier’s novella in Nazarach’s terrority before this, and I think it has made me appreciate Nimra as a leader and as an angel even more so. The juxtaposition of a dark, sadistic, and unsympathetic ruler in one novella and a kind, compassionate, and forgiving ruler in another has given me a better understanding of first, the amazing, intricate plotline about the angel politics that Nalini Singh has created, and second, in general, what makes a good ruler. I love that, in contrast to how Nazarach rules by fear, Nimra rules because people respect her. She has a good heart, but she is not a pushover. She is wise and knows when to be kind and when to be merciless. She is such a badass character!

In addition, I love the mystery aspect (of the “whodunit” variety). I have to admit that I was shocked when everything came to light.

Also, I died (both happily and sadly) on all cat scenes. You will know what I mean if you read this.

I’m giving Angel’s Wolf (Guild Hunter #3.5) by Nalini Singh 4 stars. My mind has been wandering lately while I read, but this has managed to keep me thoroughly focused from beginning to end.

It continued to disquiet him, how easily she drew him when nothing had penetrated the numbness inside him for months— especially when he had yet to glimpse the nature of the power that was at the root of her reputation.

We met vampire Noel in Archangel’s Kiss, and it was awful reading about the torture he had suffered. Noel is part of Raphael’s vampires, which means we know he is strong. But he’s so broken after what happened to him, that I was so worried he wouldn’t find his strength again. But when Raphael sends Noel to help the beautiful and dangerous angel Nimra, it was the best thing to ever happen to him, he just didn’t know it yet.

Inexplicable that it should be this vampire, damaged on such a deep level, who should have so profound an impact on her… or perhaps not. Because beyond the shadows in the blue, she glimpsed the wary hope of a brutalized wolf.

When Nimra doesn’t know who to trust anymore in her court, Raphael sends her a broken and unmanageable vampire. One who doesn’t treat her with the awe she is used to. But beneath the darkness she sees the man Noel used to be, and he fascinates her, in a way that could be dangerous to the heart she had locked away a long time ago.

“I’m afraid I’ll never be able to pull off being a poodle.”
To his shock, she laughed, the sound a husky feminine stroke across his senses. “Very well,” she said, eyes glittering with gemstone brightness in the sunlight. “You may be a wolf on a long leash.”

This is definitely my favorite novella in this series. I loved Noel and Nimra together, and how being around Nimra, Noel found his strength and himself again. I loved his possessiveness, and his demanding and pushy personality ;-) And Nimra was fantastic! For once we got to meet an angel who is strong but not cruel or ruthless. It gives me hope that there are more of them. This was such a wonderful romance, and I just loved it.

A must read for all fans of this series!

I’ve actually read this before beginning book one, so I’m unfamiliar with these characters. I kinda like that I did this book first because now I know how Noel and Nimra’s relationship began. It was a good look into these two specific characters.

Strangely, I liked this short story. I actually love that Noel wasn't afraid to be a man, that he didn't back down, even though Nimra could crush him easily. He earned my respect quite easily... I actually like how...uncivilized he became with her, his own words, not mine. I liked it. Nimra was adorable and a cute, but strong leader. They worked together, and I liked them as a couple. The story worked too, the plot easy, but good. I liked that their relationship didn't come too fast. All in all, it was a good short read.

Well written. Perfect flow. Great character build. Left you well satisfied.

The mystery of what is going on that Noel has been called to Nimra's side to investigate is interesting and takes up the majority of the story.

Their attraction to each other hits pretty fast but they don't act on it. Lot of intense reasons on both sides of that.

The steam is a slow burn but when it hits, it's very hot and passionate. The build up to their first encounter is full of sexual tension.

I loved both characters.

2nd time reading.

During the events of Archangel's Kiss we met Noel - one of Raphael's vampires. He played a small but important role there and the brutal torture he suffered was heart wrenching. But apart from learning that he survives we don't learn anything else about him. So I jumped at the opportunity to "properly" get to know him.

Angel's Wolf shows us a different kind of angel than the ones we have seen so far in Nalini Singh's Guild Hunter world. Nimra is apparently the exception to the rule that the older you get the more cruel and removed you become. I loved her and I'm so glad that Noel chose to stay permanently with her. They deserve their own HEA after all they had been through.

Noel and Nimra! so different in personalities but still found solace and love in each other. One of my favorite couple.
This was all about moving on from past hurts and trauma to finding love and second chance.
Nimra is one of the powerful angel under Raphael’s command. After a brutul attack a still recovering vampire, Noel is transfered to Nimra’s territory. There the two strong willed, stubborn personalities are met and sparks fly. I loved how they complimented each other’s personalities. And the way Noel is so protective of Nimra was very sweet. She only showed her vulnerability to him. I especially enjoyed the last chapters of this book. The mystery when it solved was a good one.
Please please Ms Singh keep on writing these amazing novellas. I love them.

My Review:

Angels' Wolf is a story that features that features Noel and Nimra. Noel is the hero who gets injured in book 2 of the series. Where he was severely tortured and hurt and barely survived. He has many scars inside and out. We see him posing as her lover as there is a mystery to solve and some danger happening in her court. I really loved these characters and how well they work together. I really loved the way in which they get on together and also how Noel really connects with Nimra. Nimra has to be in charge the whole time but you see how much she needs a partner even if she won't admit it to herself. The mystery involving some villains in her court was fascinating and I think out of the all the novellas in this anthology this one just might be my favorite. The hero was beyond delicious and I love how balanced this book seemed to be. The others seemed to be more focused on the heroine, but this one was more equalized which I appreciated getting more depth on the hero.

I much preferred this on my second read for some reason. We first met Noel in Archangel's Kiss after he had been brutalised horrifically. Noel is still broken after these events and thinks he is being tossed away by Raphael as a result but as always with Raphael things are not always as they seem.

Nimra has a reputation and that reputation means that Angel's and Vampires are kind of terrified of her. Thing is Noel can't really work out why. She seems to behave more human than most Angel's so Noel is drawn to her. She also loves cats., her love of kittens kind of won me over. I pretty much adored her.

Nimra's power is very impressive and I can see why bad people/angel's/vampires would fear her, I can also see why such a power would keep you more human. I really enjoyed Nimra and Noels story and would have loved more. I didn't 'love' the whole mystery, it was a little lame to be honest, but I did love them and the setting so that's good enough for me. And it also made me cry even if it was lame.

Oh and did I mention the kittens?

Another puzzle piece to the complex world of vampires and angels in the Guild Hunter series. Noel has been moved to territory of the angel Nimra. He is there to help her uncover nefarious forces within her court. A quick read but filled with intrigue, suspicion, betrayal and love. A perfect accompaniment to this wonderful series.

Angel’s Wolf is a little interlude that takes place some time after Book 2 Angel’s Kiss. The vampire Noel - a trusted member of Raphael’s team - who was ambused, horrifically tortured and left for undead in AK has been given a “promotion”. Noel has been assigned to Raphael’s Louisiana territory and to the court of the angel Nimra – she of the iron will and capacity for cruelty untampered by mercy.

Noel of course thinks he’s being put out to pasture. He has recovered physically from his trauma but is not the same vampire at all. He has the vampire equivalent of PTSD and the nightmares and intimacy issues to prove it. But Noel is also more resilient than he gives himself credit for and he certainly bristles when he thinks Nimra plans to use him for a brainless boy toy. However Nimra breaks it down for him, and explains that while everyone in her court thinks Noel was sent to her because he’s broken and she needs a new toy; in reality Raphael sent Noel because a delicate situation has developed and Nimra is in need of someone who’s loyalty is beyond question. Noel protests that “I’m afraid I’ll never be able to pull off being a poodle” and Nimra reassures him that “Very well then. You may be a wolf on a long leash”.

Nimra despite being a formidable angel with a nasty (although not *entirely* earned) reputation; carries her own sadness and pain. Angel’s Wolf is a short, little story of hurt and comfort and healing as Noel and Nimra confront their fears and take a chance on each other. Noel understands that to be in a relationship with a powerful ruling angel, he must be seen as strong but never usurping or over-stepping. Does the former broken vampire have what it takes to become an angel’s consort?

I honestly forgot who Noel and Nimra were until I started reading this novella. Nimra is a 600 year old angel who is in charge of Louisiana under Raphael's rule/territory. Noel is a 200 year old vampire that was severely beaten and basically left for dead at the Refuge. We didn't know much about him other than that he worked for Raphael, but I'm glad he got his own little story arc because I was always curious about him.

Nimra apparently has a reputation as ruthless and cruel. Gotta say I have no idea how that's possible because she was about as threatening as a marshmallow lol and her sweetness has to be the worst kept secret. Sure she's got a pretty scary power, but personality-wise she's nothing like most angels/immortals. Her most valued friend is a human and she is a cat lady haha. I loved the cats in this novella, as a cat lover myself that was a sweet addition to the novella 😻

I loved seeing Noel's evolution from broken and scarred to fulfilled again. Having a purpose in Nimra's court and feeling things for Nimra he didn't think he ever would feel again after his attack really helped him on his healing journey. I also loved his protectiveness towards Nimra and how he wasn't intimidated or emasculated by her status and power. They compliment each other really well and will make a perfect ruling pair.

I will also add though that the whole premise of this novella ended up being kind of dumb when it's revealed who was behind it all...but we can ignore that 😅

A short book, 10 chapters but very enjoyable.
I liked the 2 main characters Noel and Nimra.
Noel had such a very small part in another book, I wonder why he got a novella of his own??
The plot kept me guessing of who the would be murderer was. I wouldn’t have picked that person, it was a big surprise.

3rd Read - September 2020

I read this story as part of the Angels' Flight anthology which contains 4 Guild Hunter novellas.

I'll admit that this was the story I was least excited about reading because I couldn't remember who Noel was and I don't remember coming across Nimra before. If you're like me and need a reminder Noel was the vampire who was horrifically tortured during Archangel's Consort before being dumped in Raphael's territory as a warning. His physical recovery was a long and slow process but even though he is fully healed he still has the mental scars from his experience. Noel was always one of Raphael's most trusted vampires, not far below the seven in terms of the hierarchy, but now he has been sent to the court of the angel Nimra. Noel has been told it is a promotion but he thinks he has been sidelined because of what happened to him. In fact it is quite the opposite, Nimra has reason to believe that a member of her court, someone who is very close to her, is plotting against her and she needs an outsider's help to uncover who is behind the attempt on her life.

I still don't remember coming across Nimra before, she is a very old angel and one who is feared by even the most powerful angels and vampires. She has no trouble holding even Nazarach out of her territory and we all know what kind of reputation he has! Nimra is nothing like Noel expects her to be, there is none of the terror and fear that he would expect in her court and the people who stay there all seem to genuinely care for her. It was surprising how human Nimra seems considering she is so old and powerful, she shows affection for her people and for animals (you've got to love an angel who cares about her cats!) and seems like a decent leader. It was hard to figure out why her enemies were so terrified of her at first but before long you realise that she has more than enough power to hold her own if she needs to. I enjoyed the way her relationship develops with Noel, she helps bring him back from the knife edge that his torture left him on and gives him a reason to live again. They make a really cute couple and I hope we catch up with them further down the line.

** Read in Angels of Darkness **

I enjoyed this short story. I liked both Nimra the Angel and Noel the Vampire. Nimra needs help and Raphael sends Noel, but he thinks he’s been cast aside; because of what happened to him. Both of them needed healing in different ways and they come to find what they need in each other.

Angel’s Wolf is a sweet, sad, and enjoyable read.

Well, this was rather... disappointing.

Now don't get me wrong, I did enjoy reading this as a short story to the Guild Hunter books, and I would recommend it to anyone out there who read all of Nalini Singh's books and is looking for something extra by her to read, just... it didn't really manage to engage my interest. Not like how I usually feel with Nalini's books.

I felt like there was a lot tell not show in this one, the characters not really holding to what is told about them vs. what is shown, not to mention it was rather heavy on the descriptions too, in my opinion. So overall I was rather... bored? It managed to engage me enough to want to finish the story to see how it ends for Noel and Nimra (not to mention for the "mystery" in the story too), but not enough for me to really like it.

That being said, I'm a huge fan of Nalini Singh's books, and I'm basically reading all of the short stories and other books I missed by her as I await her next books in the Psy Changeling/Guilt Hunter worlds ;)
