This is one of those books that has a special place in my heart. Not because I enjoyed it, although it was excellent. Not because I loved the characters; they were well developed and you really care who lives and dies. Not because it's book one in what is sure to become one of my all-time favourite series.
No, this book is special because it is the book that prompted me to start writing. Doud was the first ever indie author I discovered, having been a voracious reader since I was a kid. I remember commenting on a post on his website...and I remember him replying. I was buzzing. The author of one of the best books I'd ever read had talked to me.
I discovered the world of indie authors thanks to this guy, and the fact his book was excellent was a bonus.

Much needed.

I've been looking for a book about a modern military in a fantasy world and this one does the trick. It has multiple POVs but it doesn't take away from the story. It enhances it. This is a must read. I read it all in one sitting. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.

Fun premise and interesting ideas, but the constant perspective changes were jarring and let to limited character development. The author also seemed to have a limited grasp of literacy, with sentences frequently not being punctuated accurated. Ended up skim reading the first three books and then dropping the series.

Hooked!

Outstanding characters and story lines. Doug Dandridge is a master storyteller. I have been captivated by his writing, unable to put the book down and now I ready for the next book.

WAY too many perspective changes

The title says it all. The first part of the book is just constant POV changes, multiple times in each chapter. Super annoying and not worth finishing the book.

Interesting premise

An exciting read. Some weird stuff about Hitler, Germans, Jews, Confederates, bullies and heroes, good and evil. Needs more clarity.
