This novella, 35,000 words long, can be read without reading the other stories in the After the Crash series. Connie Mondale, co-pilot of a plane that crashed in a future where women are rare, has no intention of being forced into marriage, thank you very much. A former fighter pilot, she’s accustomed to being in charge. But leading two dozen undisciplined women is harder than flying missions over Iraq and Afghanistan. Scarier, too, with woman-hungry men outnumbering them two hundred to one, and demanding marriage. When Des, the grim-faced werewolf who is always there for her, offers to share the load, how can she refuse? Des Wolfe knows Connie is his mate. When she refused him, he tried to settle for being her friend. But when an opportunity comes to have her for his own, he grabs it with both hands, determined to have her love. If that means taking on a whole house full of women and making them his Pack, he’ll do it. There is no price too high for Des to pay to have Connie for his mate. Can Connie give her heart to a werewolf, or will Des have to settle for only her body in his bed?

I love to write romance stories. I also have a day job with Medicare. I just wish I could quit my day job and write full time! I have so many stories rattling around in my head trying to take over my life that half the time I sound like a moron when I'm chatting with friends.

When I'm not writing I am spinning, knitting or reading. Fiber arts are a form of therapy for me, and while I'm spinning or knitting my characters talk to me. So if you look at a piece of my knitting and find an odd hole here and there, I was probably having an intense, private discussion with a werewolf while I was knitting that particular spot.

Connie the forthright woman in charge and Des the stoic wolf.

Connie was the co-pilot on the plane and is partially lame from her ankle broken during the crash.
Two months after the crash she is in charge of the unmarried and newly widowed crash survivors as they learn to live 50 years into a dystopian future. A future where women are outnumbered 100 to 1 and shifters love openly, yet separately.

The blurb is a little misleading about her having rejected Des's mating. It wasn't like that. She is clueless as he holds himself back and yet is always nearby. But she is determined to remain unmarried until the truth of their situation is brought home to her.
Des will step up and she will be his mate. But will she learn to love him?

I found Connie very prickly (or 'pointy' as a friend of mine would say). Des keeps his feelings to himself when she is like that, but is very open with his feelings when she thaws.
So I really liked Des but found it hard to like Connie much until near the end. The ending was lovely but bittersweet because of the town villain.

Mostly enjoyed.

This began as a greatly improved story over the previous.
Still had some issues, things that could be further improved, some parts that hadn’t been improved upon at all.
But for the greater part, I was very hopeful and looking forward to future works.

But then… 😱
Major plot hole, serious inconsistency, and a narrative that just flat out didn’t work.
It spoiled and followed me throughout the last part, no matter how much I tried to ignore, rewrite in my head, or even just accept to a point.

I won’t reveal, because if I had known sooner, it would have greatly diminished my enjoyment, which would have been a sad and huge waste of an otherwise highly enjoyable story.

In truth, I’m considering writing to the author and asking for clarification, and some sort of explanation to help me understand how it fits, and is suppose to work?
Maybe it’s an error? (Please, please, please [ha ha].)

Even though Connie Mondale is out of her element she's a very strong character. She has her weak moments but is still strong and does what is best for those under her guard. It's nice to have a this mix of strong and soft side to a heroine instead of a extreme of one side. Des is a patient, strong and understanding hero. It's nice that he isn't ruled over by his wolf side and is all pushy like most heroes. Both are sensible when it comes to not mixing lust with love and point out things that they actually do love about the other.
The short story does a very good job of explaining how they came to be together and how they came to love the other. My only complaint is that it is so short. I loved the characters and wanted more of the story! Like the couple taking over the house officially and them settling in with the wolves and the other women in the home. I would of liked their romance stretched out too but the author did a good job of developing their romance in this short story.

Connie Mondale is an independent woman that knows what she wants and don’t want in life and getting married is not on the to-do list in this life time. But as we all know life does not goes according to plan most days.
Des Wolfe is a super-hot looking shifter on the lookout for his mate.

This is a totally new take on the werewolf lore and I am buying it. Set in the future with few women it is a fight for the males to get a mate. It is very well written and I love the characters, it think I am going to read more of this author and this series jumped right into my to read list.
Loved it and are giving it 4-4,5 stars

I think that this was book 3.5 or something. I did not read the other books but since this was a freebie I thought I would give this a try. That being said it was really good. Easy writing that drew me in and pretty easy to follow. I really liked the future world it was primitive and made me grateful for the heat and working pluming that we have. I loved Connie and Des and I want to read more about the other characters.

Des and Connie

I sincerely love this series. I like the characters and the storylines and the feelings. I do not like the inconsistencies in the timeline/plot/storyline from one book to the next. I also still wish there was more of a backstory for the world they're in.

I will continue reading this series and would recommend it to any adult. There is mature content including steamy scenes, language and violence.

Ahead in the future the triumphs and trials

The different characters are really either good or bad. The women are strong willed. The wolves want mates for life. The storyline was engaging. I had a hard time putting it down to go to bed. Easy to follow and descriptions are spot on.

Great series

How would you like to be flying to a destination, your plane crashes, and you find yourself 50years in the future living like the early 1800s with a drastic shortage of women? That's what happens to these women and these are their stories.

I am so glad to finally have Des and Connie's story! The book is nicely fleshed out and very engaging. Connie is so strong, determined and focused. The women under her care are her priority. Her focus is making sure that they are safe, protected and that no one interferes with them. She is also afraid and a little broken, with a fierce determination to never let anyone see those parts of her.
Des is a wonderful hero. He loves Connie and proves it by never asserting his mate claim. She has told everyone that she will never marry and Des respects her word. He stands as her protector without ever asking for more...until fate steps in. Connie admits to herself that she's more than half in love with Des long before he offers her a bargain. Connie’s turnaround is believable. She's apprehensive to acknowledge her feelings though because of her past. She believes that you have to work hard to attain what you want. Her career was fought for, her relationship with her fiance took 3 years, her leadership with the women is a constant struggle with the women as well as the patriarchal attitudes of the men, etc. Our current society says that love takes lots of time to come to fruition and she totally buys into that. On top of everything else she still feels the loss of her fiance Paul. The pain from his loss and her behavior following his death invoke guilt. She compares the empty sex she had then and applies it to the possibility of sex with Des. She deals with pain, guilt, and shame until faced with the very real possibility of Des dying. It's the old adage that you don't know what you've got until it's (possibly) gone.
The author tapped into the very intense attack on the wolf Den. The intense emotions that Des poured out into Connie's "safekeeping" afterward felt very real. His grief, anguish, and loss came through clearly. Their interaction throughout the scene shows the strength of their connection and the depth that their love and commitment has grown to. Each is willing to take a chance and the rewards are far beyond what they imagined.
I can't wait to see what their lives together bring as they are revisited in future books. I absolutely know that they will have their happily ever after. It would be wonderful to get a glimpse of the family they create; children and pack. I want to see how they affect Kearney and the communities around them. I want to know how well they adjust to their women leaving the nest. Well done Maddy!

I love how Maddy Barone links her characters throughout this series and keeps their story going from one book to another. I'm so glad that she's came back an given us some insight on Connie's & Des' story.

Independently strong characters these two are, with unselfish ways that give so much of their time caring for others. Who will care for them in their lonely hours of needing someone!? This couple is destined for one another and that makes for a true mated pair. So much alike in ways that count, but can they let go of their overprotective, domineering ways to finally seek solace in one another's arms!?

This book is a must read, just as the other ones are in this series! Maddy Barone wins me over again and again with her wonderful stories!

Thank you Ms. Barone for your incredible books, I look forward to more of this series and now I'm impatiently waiting for Wolf's Vengeance!

I love the premise of the book-a plane that ended up traveling and crashing in the future in a dystopian society that has women in the ratio of 1 woman to every 200 men.Werewolves have their own socity besides humans-more like a tribe/pack.The surviving 21 women ,some who are grief stricken because they lost children and husbands in the crash are given a deadline to pick new husbands. The heroine is a gritty, strong ex military brat,ex Marine, and one of the pilots of the plane. Maddy Barone A Wolf's Oath (Love Bites, #2) by Jennifer T. Alli I love werewolves and dystopian fiction, now I have to get the rest of her books!

I was given this ARC in exchange for an honest review. This is my honest opinion and has not been influenced by the author in anyway.
Having never read anything by this author before and it being in the middle of her series.I found it to be easy to follow. I liked the theme of the story, it was interesting and different from most paranormal settings. The idea of time travel was a nice twist. Connie the co-pilot of the crashed plane, and the leader of the women survivors is a strong character. Des is a wolf who wants her for a mate, even though she doesn't want any man. Will these two work it out? I enjoyed this story so much that I know have to read the whole series. I hope you will to, it is a must read at 4 stars.

Perhaps not the best jumping on point for the series, given the complexity of the setup. A near future wild west world with werewolves but no females, into which has crash landed, via timely-windy shenanigans, a plane full of modern women (no children or males surviving) takes an unusual amount of exposition for a novella. There's also a large cast, many of whom are only name checked. It's well written and enjoyable and the central romance involved is refreshingly grown-up, but it's also clearly a tie-in with important plot beats happening off screen. Much as I loved it, I'm not sure I could recommend it to new fans.

Yeah this one is out there a bit but it is an interesting concept and a different type of Were shifter story. A few things that are made perfectly clear...Des Wolfe is "hawt"! Connie is a strong alpha and the year 2065 looks to be off to a good start for all the newlyweds. I wouldn't kick Stag out of bed for eating crackers either! The Lakota men are pretty irresistible!Intriguing series. On my Were Scale of Hotness, 4 stars.

An interesting concept and a good mix of ideas but the heroine left me lukewarm most of the time.

As a former Marine and dealing with this situation I find her inability to handle stress and conflicting personalities ridiculous. A full stint in the armed forces, especially in such an exacting and high pressure job as a pilot conflicted with her personality.

Barone's writing has definitely improved since the horrifically bad last book (Eddie's Prize). I thought this story was very tender and believable, although I did think Connie's change of heart happened a little too quickly for my taste. 3.5 stars

Unrealistic, I wasn't particulary attached to any of the characters. A quick shifter futuristic and free read, but I feel a little numb toward this one. I didn't hate it, but I didn't like it either. Do I make sense ? Mmh, not really. I'm sure some people enjoyed reading this.

Now I would just be gushing if I wrote more here. Still an amazing series from book one to the end. Though I did find the numbering a bit odd. Though, I guess that goes more along how close their stories are in relation to the crash.

I was also curious why Connie changed her mind so quickly about Des... yeah I understand Richard/Dick was being as his nick name implies but... This series has been a great read and I can't wait to continue on my journey of learning more about the wolves and their mates
