Let's Talk Turkey is a compilation of recipes taken from a variety of American magazines. This is a nifty little collection that takes all of the most needed and utilized recipes and keeps them together in one volume, which lessens the hassle of leafing through old magazines thinking "I know I saw it somewhere."

This book has a lot of tips and troubleshooting for how to host the perfect holiday. Let's Talk Turkey offers instructions on how to perfectly carve your turkey, helpful microwave cheat sheets, recipes for what to do with your leftovers (if you have any- I know my family doesn't!), and even a small section on how to decorate your table for the occasion. I found these tips really helpful, since I'm not the most artsy person around.

There was a good sampling of recipes here that vary from old classics to modern favorites. However, to me personally, there wasn't anything too new to try. This might be a great collection for others: there's a lot of dishes, easy to follow steps, and pictures that look tasty. I did see a few things I'd try making such as Cocoa-Spice Turkey and a sourdough stuffing.

This is good for someone doing their first Thanksgiving, or who is looking for new classics to add to their roster, but if you've been doing this for awhile like me, it's a limited resource.

Thanks to Netgalley & Open Road Media/Hearst for my copy. This review can also be found on my blog, Bitches n Prose.

More than just your ordinary cookbook. Let's Talk Turkey takes you from planning your holiday get together to the carving of the meat and the serving. No detail is too small to cover. Covered is the the guest list and planning a menu as is what to do when asked if a guest can bring a dish. Shopping and setting the table. Items to keep your younger guest amused, how big a bird should you get, how to thaw your masterpiece and checking the equipment you will need to prepare your meal. This book tells you different ways your microwave can help conserve time on turkey day, how to keep your meal warm before serving, and even how to pick the best wine to complement your meal. There are sample meals with recipes, table decorating ideas and table setting placements.

All that before getting to the main event fully tested and praised holiday recipes. I have to tell you if you can not find a turkey recipe that appeals to your taste bud, then they must be dead. I found more than one and am seriously think of serving turkey more often just so I can try some of them. Then lets move onto the Tart and Tangy Sauces and Relishes. You really have to try the Cranberry- Apple Chutney. As to the stuffing I cheated an had two. I stuffed the bird with the Cornbread, Bacon and Onion stuffing and served the Sourdough stuffing with sausage cranberries and apples on the side because it sounded so delicious. for sides I added Roasted squash with Walnuts to our normal family favorites of green beans, sweet potatoes and and mashed potatoes, which i changed up a bit with some of the recipes from Let's Talk Turkey. I changed my normal garlic potatoes for the Garlic and rosemary recipe, and as for my sweet potatoes, I exchanged mine for the Maple sweet potatoes with pecans. Sorry but if I messed with the green beans my family would kill me. That dish has been a tradition for nearly 100 years with a few tweaks along the time line.

As for the desserts I did not change any for my Thanksgiving dinner because, like the green beans, certain things can not be played with. On the other hand many of these recipes, the Turkeys included be made any time. Especial for a family reunion or Sunday dinner. For which I made Cranberry Orange Cake one Sunday amd Old Fashion Pecan Pie on another. Then lastly because I could not resist the recipe and the picture I made the Gingered Carrot cake for a Church Social. Lastly for those pesky left overs, Let's Talk Turkey thought of those too and offer you a few recipes to try out. This is definitely a cookbook that need to be added to regular holiday cooking collection, just remember it doesn't have to be Thanksgiving to pull it out. With health conscience individuals remember turkey is a lean meat you make all year round.

Turkey is a big deal for an American particularly at Thanksgiving time - and for an Englishman at Christmastime. Yet despite it being so commonplace not everyone really knows how to cook turkey and all the trimmings (and are often ashamed to admit it). Maybe this book can help?

Here is a information-packed ebook, published for the American marketplace with Thanksgiving in mind, that features 100 different holiday recipes, tips and ideas that have previously appeared in magazines such as Good Housekeeping, Redbook, Country Living and Woman’s Day. With the growth in ebook readers, iPads and the like, here is a great chance to take a fount-of-all-knowledge into the kitchen after you've perused it at leisure and get advice from the experts at your fingertips.

This reviewer is not usually a great fan of such 'recompilations' like 101 Soups or 50 Best Curries but in certain circumstances it can be argued that they have merit and just work. This is one of those examples. Everything you need for a clear, specific occasion. Ingredients and hard work not included.

One could be picky and complain that other celebrations involving Turkey have not been included, but one should just accept this is written for an American audience and features content from American magazines. But maybe an additional chapter about "other uses of Turkey" might have been worth a few electronic pages, possibly even bulking out the "recipes for turkey leftovers" section. Let's be honest, who doesn't invariably end up with lots of leftovers?

For what you get in this book, with its low price, you are getting a good deal if you need this sort of book. If you are an experienced cook this isn't probably for you. However the ebook does what it promises and does this well. A great little tutor to help the uninitiated cope with Thanksgiving. It can be a little secret between you and your ebook reader too!

Lets Talk Turkey
American’s associate turkey with Thanksgiving, where in Australia we tend to pull out the recipe books for Christmas lunch. Either way there are one hundred recipes and cooking ideas that have been published in American magazines.

The book is well illustrated, including colour photos of what the final product should look like.

Recipes include all the sides including Soups, salads, and vegetable sides; gravy and cranberry sauces; and desserts. There are also some great recipes to use up any leftovers.

The book also offers instructions on how to perfectly carve your turkey, plus helpful microwave cheat sheets, which very few cookbooks and even less chefs will ever let you know about.

I like the variety in recipes from old classics to modern favourites. I found the dishes easy to make, with the steps logical to follow. I found a few new things to try, and have tested them on the family and visitors alike over the past few weeks.

As an eBook, this is a handy book to have in the kitchen come the celebration time of the year. Lots of ideas, and things to try that have been tested previously.

If you've never carved a turkey before, no problem! It has step by step instructions with mouth-watering photographs to walk you through it. Do you want to have a gorgeous place setting for your table and don't know what to do? There's ideas in here with photographs so you can choose the perfect one. And what would a cookbook be without recipes? There's several different recipes in here for jazzing up your turkey so it's not the same old bird like everyone else has. Pick some more recipes from the book for your sauces, breads, stuffings, potatoes, salads, vegetables and desserts and you will have a great meal! Highly recommended for anyone that cooks a turkey or dishes that go with it.

This is a well put together cookbook that provides a compilation of good Thanksgiving recipes from a variety of different women’s magazines: Redbook, Woman’s Day, Good Housekeeping and Country Living. A photo is provided for each recipe (which I love) and everything is provided for a great Thanksgiving feast. There are a multitude of different types of turkey recipes to suit everyone’s taste: Roasted, Lemon-Sage, Cocoa-Spice, Orange-Scented, Pomegranate-Lacquered and more. And a great variety of side dishes: Brussels Sprouts with Leeks & Bacon, Broccoli with Garlic & Lemon, Carrot Ribbons with Cashews, Creamed Parmesan Spinach, etc. and a whole section on Potatoes and Sweet Potatoes. Also included are recipes on Simply Sumptuous Stuffings, Irresistible Breads, Decadent Desserts and more. And, you’ve gotta love the section on recipes for Turkey Leftovers. I’ve definitely found a few new recipes to try in this collection.
I received a complimentary e-copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for a fair and unbiased review.

First, I want to say I really liked the color photos for the recipes. I liked checking out the turkey recipes. I never would think of oranges added to the cooking turkey or sage gravy. I am not a fan of sage but I like the idea of fruited turkey. I love cranberries and boy are there a lot of recipes that look good.Yum-Ginger Cranberry sauce! There were recipes for squash and parsnip soups. I'll try some of those. All the veggie recipes look yummy-Spinach! Then comes the "Never met a potato recipe I didn't like" section. MMM! I don't even want to go into the Calorie Overload Desserts. You have to check out this book.

The cooking tips are great and always good to have in the same book you're cooking from. The recipes look amazing! I have made the Apple & Squash Soup and it was DELICIOUS!!! The recipe called for Fried Sage Leaves and that was the perfect finish for an awesome soup. The ingredients can be bought at any grocery store, so there's no need to drive all over town looking for them.

Thank you Hearst books for putting together this awesome collection of recipes, tips and ideas.

All of these recipes look delicious and I'm glad they're all in one place. The information at the beginning is helpful for any dinner party, but especially for holidays. If I hadn't been reading this before and after a meal, it would have definitely made me hungry.

Love the Ginger-Cranberry Sauce

So many unique make-ahead recipes that are short on ingredients and long on flavor. In addition, directions are simple, and colorful pictures are provided.
