Breakaway: Clan of the Ice Mountains

Rate this book
When Attu begins dreaming of ice mounds attacking him and a beautiful girl calling to him across deadly open water, he realizes the spirits of the Nuvikuan-na are warning his clan. The Warming is coming. The ocean ice they have lived and hunted on for generations is melting, and they must flee to the safety of an unknown land before they all drown.
In this powerful tale of survival at the end of an Ice Age, the young hunter, Attu, must choose between saving his clan or saving Rika, the golden-eyed healer he is forbidden to love

This is a three-book series, Book One, in a genre much like the Children of the Earth series by Jean Auel. I love pre-historic dramas - what it MIGHT have been like for those who could survive untold hardships. I fell in love with these characters - the main hero being Attu, and his family and clan. Their struggle to escape the Warming - with their ice melting under them - and how their leaders are challenged to bring their people out of danger...

Great adventure story - one of those where you have to keep reading to find out how this is all going to turn out. I read it a few weeks ago and am now doing something I rarely do - rereading it - and enjoying every minute!
Can't help but wonder what this author will come up with next!

A very interesting idea for the book itself, but it just did't seem real enough for me. Do you know how it seem times happens with a book, when all is alive and breathing from the pages you read? Well, here it wasn't the case I am afraid...
Last pages were the best in my opinion, the descriptive there gave the book a smooth closure.
Can't say if I will be reading the next one in this series, may be I will try if the dialogue will become more lively and believable.
