Jess in on the hunt for yet another wanted man when he comes across a wanted poster on a woman by the name of Jane Lacey. She is wanted for the killing of Jethro Mercer. The reward money is being offered by Walt Mercer, a rich and ruthless businessman, and Jethro's father.
What Walt Mercer doesn't know, is that Jethro raped Jane Lacey and was about to murder her to keep it quiet when she kills him in self-defense.
Blind fate brings Jess and Jane together, where Jess learns that there was a witness to her rape and the killing of Jethro Mercer. When Jess hears the story about what happened, he sets off on a hunt for the only witness, who fled and is in hiding, afraid of what Walt Mercer might do to him.
It starts out as a simple enough job; find Rubin Fisher and make him ride back to Defiance, Texas, and tell Walt Mercer what really happened. But the job quickly turns out to be anything but simple. Mercer puts up twenty-five thousand dollars for anyone who brings him Jane Lacey alive.
Jess takes Jane on his hunt for Rubin Fisher and it takes a deadly turn with every gunslinger and bounty hunter in Texas hunting Jane for the twenty-five thousand dollars Walt Mercer put on her head. Strange partnerships are formed and a lot of men start dying along the way, and Jess is determined that Jane Lacey won't be one of the ones going down.

In 1990 Robert J. Thomas was sworn in as the full time mayor for the city of Westland, Michigan. He served twelve years, making him the longest serving mayor in Westland's history.
While he was mayor he wrote his first book titled, How to Run for Local Office, which has now sold over 25,000 copies worldwide.
He has written and published on Kindle, the Jess Williams Westerns series. Retired, he now lives in Mississippi with his wfe Jill.
Thomas takes Jess Williams in a different direction with this one. He's trying to protect a woman who has a $25,000 bounty on her. There are many sleazy types trying to collect so Jess has many opportunities to increase his personal body count.
Well why can't you find your sweet daddy these days? Of course you probably can if you look hard enough. But at 83! Getting over covic19 or hoping. But am going v after 21 Jess books. 2:00 am. Guess I'll take my BS and find Jess. Goodnight every one enjoy your find. I sure will. JD.
Jess is the hero and anti hero all in one. Fun fast read. The books are a fast read and fun. The cost increases for the next books in the series and because of this I'm going to find another series to read. The series priced itself out. A book a day is easy so $25+ a week is a bit pricey. Definitely enjoyed the stories.
Not the usual Jess Williams. As a loner, he acquires quite a group of folks to conclude the adventure. His group includes three bounty hunters, two women, an old man who can barely see, is hard of hearing and anxious to fire his rifle. All of these and two children as well.
As always this man doesn’t let me down.! He has one of the most interesting characters in the western books, thank you again for an interesting novel to read.
This story was better than the past few I've read in the series. It was the same in that Jess went after the bad guys but this time he was helping out a female with a huge bounty on her head. He teamed up with some very unexpected partners. What I really liked was this one wasn't filled with spelling and grammar errors like the last ones I've read. These books have grown on me and I can't stop reading them.
I picked this up because it was free, not really expecting much,to my surprise, it was witty, interesting, and a clean read. I will be reading more of this series. Well done!
A reread and still good. Good Samaritan Jess Williams helping out the downtrodden and disenfranchised in-between killing bad guys. Or maybe it's the other way around. Either way you've got to love the guy.
