Okay, so the title is completely misleading, and I feel I have to explain myself. This book appears to have been compiled by a very helpful crank, I think both an evolutionist and spiritualist. I don't remember exactly how I got it, although I think it was a gift from a friend, and there it was sitting on my shelf. I was on the phone one day, and my eye fell upon it. Getting off the phone, I pulled it off and opened it at random. There was a news clipping from The New York Times in 1924, describing how some road workers dug up the skeleton of a woman over eight feet tall, south of Lewiston, Idaho. That's right here in my neighborhood, so I decided to read the whole thing. The book is largely a compilation of news stories, letters, and reports from all over the United States, dating from the late 19th century to early 20th century, including newspapers like the Washington Post and the NYT, chronicling how various people had dug up gigantic skeletons, eight feet or more in stature. Lots and lots of reports of lots and lots of big bones. So I think a crank assembled all these accounts, but all the accounts themselves were written by regular folks, of the kind who would then write the Smithsonian.

Of course, for Christians, the issue is not the existence of giants, but rather the question of whether any of them made their way here. So, there you are.

This is mostly a compilation of archived articles of excavated burial mounds. It is fascinating but gets a little repetitive. Still a lot of work must have been done to bring this together.

(There are 2 "Nephilim Chronicles" books, so be careful ordering.) This, I think, is the most valuable of any book I have seen on the subject of a possible race of Giants that may have existed on the earth. There are 300 accounts of giant skeletons (7 to 14 foot) from Local Histories, Newspapers and 19th century scholarly books. I mean - really! - are all these people lying? One unique thing about Zimmerman's book is that probably 100 accounts come from Local Histories of Counties and Towns, which no one else I know of have compiled. (I have to say also, but forgive for a self-published book, that this is also about the worse book as far as proof-reading that I have seen, and Zimmerman should have given more complete references (page no., etc.) There are many diagrams and drawings of Native American Earthworks, forts and Mounds that are long victim of the plow, and also extensive explanations of Zimmerman's Theories about the cultures that built them from his wide study and research.

Science has rare cases of what is called "Giantism" or "Acromeglia" (?) in which occasionally someone reaches up to 8 and even 9 foot in Height. This is held to be the result of a tumor, and in a minor number of cases simply to genetics. Cases develop a thickening brow-ridge which is also present in most of the unearthed skeletons - and I wonder of this is actually an indication of genetic throwback to a previous state, as in some birth anomalies.

In the US, these old cases are perhaps the only ones we will ever see - as it is illegal since 1990 due to the North American Graves and Repatriation Act (NAGPR) to even look at or examine any skeletons found. This is an extreme just as originally no respect at all was given to Native American Remains - Now it is illegal to examine ancient discoveries, even if there is evidence they are not Native American at all. Additionally, today, no academic will investigate or report anything found "outside the box" of dogmatic Academia, from near certainty they they will ruin their future career and employment. It is a pathetic situation.

Most all the descriptions are that the bones nearly disintegrate upon exposure or are very fragile. The exception seems to be the skull, which lasts longer, and there are several accounts of discoverers putting skulls _over the top of their own heads!_

Besides giant skeletons, many other anomalies are described. My notes say in Zimmerman's book there were 6 cases with a double row of teeth, - Nearly all the finds were that the skulls were of the prominent brow ridge and sloping forehead, (and unrelated accounts of the same phenomena is evidence of validity) - Some were of very thick skulls, up to 7/8 inch, - A short skull horn above the ear appeared in 2 accounts (and I saw another account of this in "Am. Antiquarian," - and which we all still have a slight bump of behind the ear. ) - There was perhaps a couple dozen accounts of "sunburst burials" of bodies in a circle with heads to the center, - 2 accounts of 2 1/2 - 3 inch teeth, including the root, - Most the finds were not in "Indian Mounds" but accidental discoveries digging cellars, foundations, wells, etc., - 3/4 the accounts give no measurement - just "huge" or "enormous," - There's accounts of a 27 lb axe, a 17 lb. spearhead, etc., (elsewhere in "Am. Antiquarian," is a 40 lb copper axe find, etc.), - There are maybe a couple dozen accounts of anomalous-shaped skulls, 40 teeth instead of 32, molars in the front, a dubious "sheep-like" skull, etc., etc., etc.

There is nothing better that _physical evidence_ to lend credence to a the many ancient accounts of races of giants. The 3-foot "Hobbit" humanoids of Indonesia are accepted by academia - and "little people" are somehow not psychologically threatening to anybody, including Academia, the most cowardly of all. But Giants are another matter, and although there have been perhaps 1000s of accounts, none of them seem to materialize into public acknowledgment, collections, or in any of the 100,000's scholarly papers on Archeology or Anthropology.

Zimmerman's previous Nephilim Chronicles book (there are 2 different ones) - "Ancient Ruins in the Ohio Valley" is also a very valuable and has over 200 photos of Earthworks and Mounds that are still in existence, many on private land, but most in parks, cemetaries, Universities, etc. One comment that he made that stuck in my mind, was that of Academics being some of the worse in destroying and defacing still-existing mounds. Grad students, for instance, will dig up a mound looking for artifacts, and never bother to even rebuild it - of which he gave several instances.

The first part of the book was a little boring and exhausting.BUT towards the middle to end of the book was amazing and worth reading all the rest for! He cited his works well. He made it clear to the readers that he was citing either proven facts or that he was citing mythology i.e. the theories of mankind. When researching ancient cultures this is a vital skill one must display in order to authenticate ones work. I appreciated that Fritz made his citations clear in this way. His knowledge of the ancient world and his knowledge of ancient geometry in particular was breath taking! I met the author in person at one of the Ancient America Conferences. I highly recommend his work.

This book is more a professional codice of all of the accounts of giant burials in the Ohio river valley than an adventure or suspense book. It is extremely interesting for someone who has heard of these stories but never found them all put together in on resource.
