I'll admit, I'm surprised how attracted I am to your combative nature. But you're under my skin now. I don't want a compliant woman - I want you.

I knew just one thing going into this book; how much I absolutely HATED Layla in book 1. How do I even describe the way she came off in that book? Ahh yes!

Think I'm exaggerating here? Not even close. Then there was Layla's penchant of sleeping with pretty much every hot guy that crossed her path. Honestly!

She was selfish, arrogant, rude, and pretty much everything I should hate in a heroine. But see here's the thing, I have never anticipated a book more than with her. There's nothing more I love that a good story of redemption and imagine my surprise when I ended up liking Layla more than her sister Emma, from book 1.

After too much alcohol and a case of feeling sorry for herself lands her in the bed of yet another nameless man, Layla knows she's finished with that part of her life. She's done with meaningless sex and hookups. She's sworn off bad boys, but she knows that deep down she may not be the kind of woman that the 'nice guys' would go for.

But of course, life never quite works out the way you plan. So when Layla meets Ben, the super sexy cop that isn't shy about making his intentions known, she finds that resisting the bad boys is not as easy as it seems.

Ben was just...he was so....gah! *dreamy sigh* I frigging LOVED Ben. Did I happen to mention that along with being super sexy, a cop, the man also drive a motorcycle and has tattoos? Because let me just tell you, I about orgasmed from the sexy overload that was him.

When Ben first lays eyes on the outspoken and gorgeous attorney, he knows what he wants. He's not the type to settle down, but he wants Layla, even if it's only for a short while. But Layla is not at all what he thought her to be.

You’re the kind of girl who makes a list about her perfect man, and it has things like ‘dreamy’ and ‘sweet’ on it, and I bet every ‘i’ is dotted with a heart.”
Layla was only taken aback for a second. "How do you know my list doesn’t have ‘big cock’ and ‘filthy mouth’ on it?" she said, raising her brows at Ben.
His lips parted in surprise. “Does it?” he asked, his gaze darkening a shade.
"Fuck yes."

Knowing that the combustible attraction between them is going to be impossible to resist, Ben is determined to have Layla. So when he finds her weak spot with competition, he challenges her to a game that just might make them or destroy them.

This book was so much more than the synopsis. I did't expect to enjoy it as much as I did. Layla and Ben were both such strong characters, yet both of them had their own hidden vulnerability that threatened to destroy them.

The two of them together burned up the pages

But beneath the sexy words and sexual tension, there was a fantastic story about 2 broken souls. I loved the relationship development between Layla and Ben. I am not a fan of insta anything, and I was so happy to see that didn't happen here. Even though I thought my ovaries might explode from all the sexual tension at times, it was well worth the wait. Because when these two finally get together...

I loved that Layla was a converted bitch. It was a refreshing change from all the mousy and introverted heroines I've been reading about lately. She was confident, outspoken, and yet she had this layer of vulnerability to her that you couldn't help but like.

If you enjoy steamy contemporary romances with dirty talking, sexy heroes and confident and outspoken heroines, that you really need to check this book out. A big rec from this girl!

Going into this book…I hated Layla. I wasn’t looking forward to reading about her. After the crap she pulled and the way she acted in the previous book, I just didn’t care about her story. Even as I started this book, my heart wasn’t in it…Until I met Ben.

Ben was a HUGE bright spot for me. He was everything you would expect in an alpha male. And with my dislike of Layla, everything I would want to see matched against her. All the typical alpha behaviors that would typically have me reaching for my Irritable gifs worked with Ben.

I can’t say that I ever loved Layla (because I didn’t), but I warmed up to her…some…but that’s about it. The fact is, I hold grudges and I couldn’t forgive her for her actions toward Emma in book 1.

And speaking of Emma (and Cole by extension), I loved catching up with them. However. I didn’t like what happened to Cole. For me, he went from a guy that was strong and secure in his relationship to an immature, insecure guy that got jealous if another guy so much as looked at Emma. It just didn’t ring true for me. He wasn’t acting like a guy that secure in his relationship and living with the woman he loved. He was acting like a territorial guy that didn’t know where he stood with the woman he was dating and he wasn’t even like that back when he and Emma first started dating.

Another issue I had was the way Layla kept calling herself a whore. While I had similar thoughts during book 1, (but never used that exact word) it wasn’t true for this book. She had grown as a person and had stopped…seeing…so many men. So even if it had been true, it wasn’t anymore. But she kept calling herself that and it bothered me…and it bothered Ben. It just seemed to go against the “strong-woman-alpha-mean-girl” personality she seemed to have throughout the book.

I can’t say this book was awesome (aside from Ben) but it wasn’t horrible. It’s definitely worth reading.

ARC PROVIDED BY AUTHOR FOR HONEST REVIEW
**4.5 stars**

Now and Again by Brenda Rothert is the the second installment of the series Now. In the first book, we were introduced to Emma Carson's beautiful older and fiercely independent sister, Layla. She was basically portrayed as a slut and bitch in Now and Then. While most readers love to hate her in the first book, I was one of the minority of readers who actually liked her. I was intrigued by her spunky attitude and how she isn't afraid to speak her mind. But behind her strong personality, I know Layla is looking for what every girl hopes to find and that is love. And now we finally we get to hear Layla's story.

Now and Again picks up where it last left off in the previous book. Layla's relationship with her sister, Emma is still strained but its getting better. Layla is a young 26 corporate lawyer who decides that she needs to revamp her lifestyle. She decides that she's no longer going to have casual sex and make her career and herself number one priority.

While working on a case, Layla meets Chicago Investigator Ben Montrose. Ben is all man and isn't afraid of getting his hand dirty with manual labor. He is a former Marine who has worked his way up in the law enforcement ladder to become an investigator at the young age of 31.

The sexual chemistry between Layla and Ben are scorching HOT!! They perfectly balance and compliment one another. They are both fiercely independent, witty, strong and stubborn. I love the playful flirty banter they both exchange. Ben is intrigued that Layla is not like any other women he met. He was used to women throwing themselves at him but that was not in the case with Layla. As the two spent more time together, they decide to "date" each other for 4 weeks. Layla will get to be in control of the first 2 weeks and the last 2 weeks Ben would be in control.

Within the 4 weeks, feelings developed between them. Ben brings out Layla's fun and laid back personality. He accepts her past and always reminds her that he doesn't care of her past casual hookups and encounters. Their playful banters often include "dirty talks," which I found to be entertaining. What I love about Ben is that he protects and stands up for Layla's honor and doesn't let anyone disrespect or put her down. Also, he didn't jump at the chance to have "sex" with her right away. He waited till she was ready and knew for sure this is something she wanted.

"Ben..he gets me. He knows how to handle me. I've never met a man who complements me, but he does. When we're together, I don't feel like an aggressive bitch. I just feel like a woman who knows what she wants. And when he looks at me...I feel beautiful. In more than a tits and ass way."

Did I like this book than the first one? THE ANSWER IS A BIG FAT YES!!! I just like that the heroine isn't weak and afraid to speak her mind. Between the two sisters, I liked Layla the best. Her character was more lively and she isn't afraid to be a bitch. Ben's laid back alpha personality was just refreshing. I was never a Cole fan so I was so happy that the author finally gave us an alpha male who doesn't take bullshit. I think its cute that Ben calls Layla, Cupcake.

The only problem I had with this book was Emma. I'm sorry but if your boyfriend disrespects your sister and basically calls her a slut and whore... Ummm, I would slap and punch him in the face. I just didn't like that Emma would cover up for Cole's disrespectful behavior and justify it that he's moody because they haven't had sex in a week. Cole, where is Layla's apology????? In my opinion, Emma.. your sweet loving boyfriend was just simply an asshole in this book. Let me tell you, I loved that Ben didn't stand for Cole's harsh words for Layla and made sure to defend his woman's honor and character.

"Layla..I love you, too. I do, I want to be with you. I want to share the ups and downs with you."

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and devoured it in one sitting. This book had romance, playfulness, love, passion, sexual chemistry, a little angst, "dirty talks" and suspense all wrapped up. And to top it off, a HEA ending!!

For the final book of the series Now and Forever I'm hoping that Layla and Emma's relationship gets back on track to what it was before. In my bias opinion, I rather read more about Layla and Ben than Emma and Cole.

Cupcakes and sweet police detectives - 3 stars ☆☆☆
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
This book can be read as standalone, let me tell you this first.
It has some characters from book 1 (Layla's sister Emma, and her boyfriend Cole), but this now it is all Layla story.

So, Layla was a promiscuous girl, you already know...♫♪, then she decided it's enough of all that cr*p or else, she won't ever get married and find a nice guy.

Then comes, the man of the hour, to save the day - Ben!
 photo shirt.gif
Police detective and a crafty handyman,
big and hard as a rock, but with a soft side and respect for girls. He does seem sometimes like a Superman with all his abilities and talents :)

They flirt, go out and all that stuff...it's sweet. Nothing amazing, but sweet.

Naughty stuff were not that graphic [thank you!!!] and I wasn't in the mood, so I skimmed through some of it.

Layla has a dog and she's a lawyer, so, right on, girl power! I wouldn't mind if there was more stuff about her job, either! This way her characterisation seemed a bit superficial.

A little drama comes near the end, but won't tell you what it is,
drama queen fake gif
you guys hate spoilers, right?;)
I wouldn't mind if this suspense part was a little longer or more dangerous.

Ending is normal, no babies, no marriage proposal! Love that! ♥

Anyways, writing is fine, it's sweet, sometimes even a bit funny. This book was even free for some time for Kindle download, now I think book 1 is free on Amazon.

4.5 Bitches!

description

If you read the first book in this series, then you met Layla.. the bitch sister. Well, surprise surprise! This is her story. :)

Layla is tired of mindless fuck with random guys and promised herself that she's done with casual sex...

Gotta say that I love this bitch! Layla is the exact opposite of her sister Emma. She's edgy, strong independent woman that loves to sleep around with guys. I would say, she's a certified 100% WHORE. :)

description

But honestly, behind this tough independent is a woman who is so much more. Don't get me wrong, she's still a bitch here. lol. But You'll see a different side of her that by the end of the book you can't help but love the vulnerable-bitchy character. This kinda surprise me because helpless/doormat heroines are my thing but there's something about Layla that made me like her so much that I want to marry her myself!

She was disgusted with herself as she hung up. Emma didn’t have a mean bone in her body. Why did Layla resent her happiness? She was a strong, independent woman who had a full life of her own. She resolved to go to dinner at her parents’ house and catch up with her sister. So she had a boyfriend, and so it was Cole Marlowe. Layla could be mature about it.

I love her relationship with her sister. It was a little awkward at first but I enjoyed reading their interactions. It felt very realistic when she was trying not feel resentful and jealous towards Emma. I'm glad it was sorted out and wasn't the main focus of the story. :)

“Please … You’re so cocky.”
“Bet you can’t wait to find out just how cocky I am,” he said, winking. Layla looked away and laughed, but felt her cheeks warming.

Ben met Layla and find her different. He's used to women falling all over him so he was caught off-guard when Layla turns him down. Both of them likes to be in control, in so Layla doesn't think a relationship will work but Ben wants and her... He finds Layla’s weak spot – competition, which he happens to share – and challenges her to a game that could make them, or destroy them.

I love love Ben! Omigahhh!

description

He's sooo adorable I just want to lick him like a popsicle! He's swoon worthy, sexy, alpha. I love that he's a pushover but not a jerk. sigh. I find it really cute that he's a little unsure when it comes to Layla.

“I’d give you the best – cupcake – you’ve ever had,” he said, meeting her eyes. “You’d be begging for more. If you want an average cupcake, find someone else. I can only give you the best.”

Both characters were strong-likeable personalities and that's refreshing for me. I thought everything won't work out and somehow they would clash but the author did a great job on balancing Ben and Layla.

“You want a guy to be your wedding date. To take to your parents’ house. To show you affection. Love. To propose to you on a rooftop somewhere and cry when you accept. That’s not me.”

I wanted to kill Ben when he said these words to Layla.. lol. It kinda broke my heart! One thing I learned after reading this book? Every bitches deserves a HEA! They just need to find the right one. :)

Overall this is way better than the first book!! The banter between these two was entertaining! So if your tired of reading whiny heroines then this one is for you! It's a light read that has the right amount of everything. A little drama, sexiness and suspense that had me on the edge!

I freaking love Brenda Rothert! Review to come with my tour post on 11/7...

**FULL REVIEW**

“Writing her goals on a sheet of pink Hello Kitty paper as she started high school had seemed like a way to get everything she wanted, back then. As long as it was on the list, she believed it would happen. So far, she’d checked off “be valedictorian”, “become an attorney”, and “visit another country”. The list was tucked into a compartment of her wallet, and she hadn’t looked at it in a while. Since she was turning 27 soon, she knew there would be no check next to “get married by age 28”. But so what? Men were overrated anyway.”

Layla Carson needs to figure things out. When life throws a curveball that leaves her envious and still alone, she decides to swear off men for a bit and just focus on her. Having the reputation she does is a hard rock to crawl out from under, but seven months and a busy schedule definitely helps. Even though her life list has come to a stand-still, Layla pushes forward with other aspects; her career, her family, her friends…until one day, she walks into the office of Sergeant Ben Montrose. Holy sexy man. Nope, not going to happen. She has a job to do and he is going to be the one to help her get it done. That is it…except, maybe it isn’t. Layla doesn’t know it yet, Ben might not be what she wants, but he may be just what she needs.

“There was something about her that just sparkled. She was sharp and edgy, but he liked that about her. Women who fell all over him were a dime a dozen…I know, it seems weird. I’ve never in my life chased a woman until now. If they didn’t come to me, I always figured another one would. But there’s something about her. She’s got this façade of not caring, but I can tell that deep down she wants me to chase her. And damned if I don’t want to catch her.”

Classic game of cat and mouse, except Ben plays dirty. He has never been turned down by a woman before and he only hopes that he can convince Layla to let her guard down just enough to where he can get in…but she’s not so sure. The chemistry is there, and Ben makes her feel something she didn’t think she needed; safety. Being a strong and independent woman, Layla is convinced she can take care of herself, until she starts receiving creepy letters, and even worse, a sense of being watched…*shudders*

Will Ben prove to her that he can be more than just a protector, or confidant? Or is he just after what every other guy is after when it comes to Layla Carsen? Four Weeks. Set Rules. Limits. What will happen if and when both parties get what they want? And who is the creeper?

“He can’t say no to you and you can’t say yes to him. This is an interesting relationship you guys have.”

Brenda Rothert does it again in the second book of Now. I was so excited to read this book, I nearly jumped out of my seat when it landed in my inbox. I am forever fan and this book definitely did not disappoint! I am all for a sexy cop and a very strong female. What made me love this story even more is that Layla talks big, but she’s a girl. And at the end of the day, every girl wants the same.damn.thing…Love. Does she get it? Read and find out, you won’t be sorry!

After working hard and pushing others around to get what she has wanted her whole life, Layla comes to the point where she realizes some things can't be forced – like love. She decides she needs to take a step back and reevaluate her priorities, and when she does she realizes she doesn't like the person she has become. After taking a hiatus from her life, or at least her dating life, she starts to see things clearly for the first time.

I liked this story even more than Emma's, mostly I think because of the drastic change in Layla. In the beginning she was still the slutty bitch she had been in Now and Then, but over the course of the story we got to watch her grow as a person and watch as her personality morphed into someone she was comfortable with and eventually liked. I really hated her in the first book, hated the way she treated others, her sister, and herself. By the end of this book, she was my favorite sister. I also loved Ben. Super sexy, a successful career, and not afraid to go after what he wants…what's not to like?

The sexy banter between Layla and Ben was so much fun and had me laughing a few times. Additionally, the sexual tension in this book was off the charts.

The only thing that disappointed me about this book was Cole. I loved him in book one, but for some reason, though we didn't see a lot of him, he was pretty much a jerk in this book. I'm hoping that will be explained more in book three and he can come to terms with whatever his problem is with Ben. I am looking forward to reading the last book in this series.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

WOW, this book's steamy level was completely of the charts; I LOVED IT, I LOVED.

I received the book as an ARC and I was extremely exited seeing as I had read Now and Then a couple weeks before and couldn't wait to see how Layla's book would be.I wasn't one of those people who had disliked her in the first book; yes she was bitch, but not enough to hate. Not to give away too much but the book starts with Layla being Slutty McSlut but she's so ashamed of herself that she decides to stop.
What I really liked about the book is that the author really shows us that even the biggest bitch in world had insecurities and emotions. I actually liked Layla more than Emma. I happen to have a tad bit of an attitude myself and I tend to blurt out whatever I am thinking, so I felt like I could connect to Layla more.

Now let's get to my absolutely favourite part of the book:Ben. Ben you are sooo HOT. Every time he and Layla were in close proximity I started to fan myself because I knew something GOOD was about to go down. That man can dirty talk like no other. I loved the way the relationship developed though Ben's reluctance to be in a relationship kind of irked me.Overall though, this book was much better than the first one. There was just something about Layla and Ben together that Emma and Cole just didn't do for me. Looking forward to the next book.

Lindsay: Going into this book…I hated Layla. I wasn’t looking forward to reading about her. After the crap she pulled and the way she acted in the previous book, I just didn’t care about her story. Even as I started this book, my heart wasn’t in it…Until I met Ben.

Nikki: OMG! I hated Layla too! (to see our rants, click here) And you practically had to twist my arm to get me to finally read it! But once I got into it, I fell in love with Ben!

Lindsay: Ben was a HUGE bright spot for me. He was everything you would expect in an alpha male. And with my dislike of Layla, everything I would want to see matched against her. All the typical alpha behaviors that would typically have me reaching for my Irritable gifs worked with Ben.

Nikki: I'm surprised you didn't use them on Layla! She had so many moments where she was irritating and I was embarrassed for her!

Lindsay: Yeah, I agree with that. I felt like as much as she'd changed, she didn't believe in that change herself and she kept putting herself down. I couldn't stand that. If you say it enough, other people are going to start believing it.

Nikki: That annoyed me too. But at the same time, I was also calling her a Slutbag McGee for her actions! She was just unbelievable!

Lindsay: LOL. I can’t say that I ever loved Layla (because I didn’t), but I warmed up to her…some…but that’s about it. The fact is, I hold grudges and I couldn’t forgive her for her actions toward Emma in book 1. But, I enjoyed the little mystery/suspense story that was thrown in with the notes she received. I just wish there had been more to it. Because by time the end was nearing, I kept wondering if we would ever get a resolution of it.

Nikki: I also liked the suspense element! But we're both fans of romantic suspense, so we shouldn't be surprised by it. But I have to agree with you, I didn't like that there was such a big gap between occurrences of that story.

Lindsay: I can't believe I'm going to say this...but at one point, I actually felt sorry for Layla. Her "best friend" Lane was just awful. Layla walked away from the table for just a minute and Lane took advantage of that to hit on Ben. I was cheering for him when he turned her down but when he told Layla about it, she wasn't surprised and said as much. She accepted it as normal. And I don't care how awful Layla was, she deserved better friends than that. Melanie was a good friend. Melanie was what Layla should have realized she deserved in a friend. Not Lane. I wanted Layla to tell off Lane and end the friendship, but she didn't. So in that way, I think Emma was the stronger of the two sisters.

Nikki: Again, I agree with you! Emma has a great friend in Dani. I love her and their friendship. But Lane was awful! I was shocked that Layla just accepted Lane's actions with just a "that's how it is" attitude! What happened to the ball busting lawyer!?

Lindsay: I think she was so caught up in her own hype of being a "whore" and "mean girl" that she thought she deserved it.

Nikki: Yeah, I can see that. I really wanted Lane!

Lindsay: LOL. I was right there with you!
Well, overall...*said grudgingly* this was a good book. I loved Ben and had trouble putting this down.

Nikki: I was surprised at how much I like it. I laughed all the way through it...you know...even though I still don't like Layla.

Lindsay: Lol. So, what's your final rating? I hold grudges so I can' only give it a total score of a 3.5. Ben totally gets a 5 though.

Nikki: I would be willing to give it a 4. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

I received a copy of Now and Again by Brenda Rothert in exchange for an honest review.

Now and Again is the second book in the Now series by Brenda Rothert. The first book, Now and Then, was Emma's story and Now and Again is her sister Layla's story. While it's a series, Brenda Rothert gave enough back history on Emma and Cole, that you could read Now and Again as a standalone and be able to fully understand the story.

When I first met Layla in Now and Then, she wasn't easy to like. She was manipulative and superficial and just looking for a good time with whatever guy would give her a good time. But once she saw her little sister in a loving relationship, she decided it was time to stop her wild ways. She swore off casual encounters and concentrated on her law career. Somewhere in all of that, she became likeable and I found myself on her side, hoping that she'd be able to find what she was looking for in life.

Through one of her cases, she meets Ben Montrose, a detective with the Chicago Police Department. Sparks fly almost immediately between them. Neither Ben nor Layla feel that they are worthy of an exclusive, satisfactory relationship as they both feel that certain things in their past are not conducive to a relationship. Will they be able to overlook their own obstacles and be able to make it work together?

I really enjoyed Now and Again. It was a quick read, with plenty of steam and a little bit of suspense. Even though I went into the book without liking the Layla that I knew from Emma's story, Brenda Rothert did a great job in redeeming Layla's characters and made me want to root for her. Book 3, Now and Forever, should be out in a few more months and will be the continuation of both Emma and Layla's stories and I am going to be on pins and needles waiting for it to come out so that I can see how things work out for them.

Now and Again is book 2 in the Now series. It focuses on Layla Carson who is the sister of Emma from book 1. This is a different Layla then we read about in Now and Then. She's learned her lesson in this book. She is no longer trying to sleep her way to finding a husband. And just when she stops looking she managed to meet Ben.

Ben is a detective with the police department. He also wasn't looking to find anyone. But their chemistry is unmistakable. They have amazing banter. I love it when an author can write a witty conversation. I found myself laughing out loud like a weirdo a few times.

Besides being both steamy and funny we also get a mystery element in this book. Layla has a stalker. This brings a whole other dimension to the story. I don't want to go any further into this as I don't want to spoil anyone's fun.

Emma and Cole make a few guest appearances in this book so we get to see how they are doing. Plus, Emma and Layla's relationship is still strained ever since Layla lost Cole to her sister.

Ultimately, I loved getting into Layla's head. I actually found that I liked Layla better than Emma which I would have never guess after reading the first book.

I was very fortunate to get to beta read this awesome novel.

Bring on Book 3!!

We meet the sexy attorney Layla Carson again. This time Layla still angry over her baby sister snagging their hot sexy childhood neighbor, the object of Layla's list to the altar guy, she has decided to swear off of sex.

But what the reforming sexaholic is about to find out is her attraction to one uber hot Ben Montrose ex-marine turned sexy as hell detective will knock her off her game. But Ben is dealing with his own reasons for not wanting to be in a committed relationship.

Ben and Layla's non-relationship woes and attics kept me reading from start to finish. I liked that she finally woke up and realized that she is a prize. Continuing the characters from Now and Then kept the story intriguing. This could have been read separately and you would still have been able to follow why Layla was so distant with her sister Emma and her boyfriend Cole. I didn't like that Cole came off as an asshole but understood once we were given his reasoning.

These two sisters are everyday people. Their issues can be heard in any town where young people are single and trying to meet someone to fulfill their list of qualities.

Can't wait to read the third installment. These sister's have me hooked.

This book was amazing. After reading Now and Then, the first book in the series, I wasn't a fan of Layla. After reading this book, I love her. Layla is trying to reform herself after trying to sleep her way through men trying to find a husband when she meets Ben. The chemistry between them is amazing, and the sexual tension...wow. Besides the romance, there was humor which I wasn't expecting. I found myself laughing out loud a few times. And of course there is drama. Yes, I had tears. I loved everything about this book. The characters, the story...I can not wait for book 3.

Ok I will admit, I did warm up to Layla! I loved Ben, and sadly could only tolerate Cole and Emma. I don't know what happened to them in this book but they were not themselves! The story was good and even though I had to wait for freaking ever for the sex, the 'playtime' between Layla and Ben was pretty hot! I wish the 'suspense' aspect had been more draw out and played up because it was pretty interesting but other than that I have few no complaints! :D

Hated Layla in the first book of this series! Honestly, I almost didn't read this book because I wasn't sure she would be able to redeem herself & all her bitchiness from book one, but she totally did. And Ben....he was one sexy, dirty talking Detective. Loved this book!!

Layla Carson is back!! I wasn’t a fan of Layla after reading Now and Then I think I went as far as calling her a bitch, I didn’t really warm to her and didn’t like the games she played. However she had somewhat redeemed herself by the end of the book and I was looking forward to reading this book, and her story.

Layla relationship with her sister is a little better she has realized she can’t go on acting the way she does by have lots of meaningless sex with men, and she needs to focus more on herself, and what she really wants out of life. The more I got to know Layla in this one the more I found myself liking her, l saw a different side of her, and in some aspect I could totally relate to her.

Ben Montrose is a former Marine now working as a cop who Layla meets while working on a case. Now I’m not going to lie I definitely had a thing for him. He was an alpha male but not over the top was hot and sexy with his muscles, and had a way with words that would make any girl go weak at the knees. ;)

I really liked the storyline, I won’t say too much as I don’t want to give it away. But what started out as a fun challenge for 4 weeks turn into much more. The chemistry, and the sexual tension between Layla and Ben was off the charts. They work well together, and are so much alike both fiercely independent who like to be in control, and they have a few issues when it comes to relationships.

I liked how the relationship developed, and that they didn’t just jump straight into bed together, they waited hence there was so much sexual tension between them. Even I was getting hot and sweaty at one point.

It was great to see Emma and Cole back, but Cole annoyed me he was a bit of an asshole, and yes you have guessed it I wanted to punch him at one point. I like Melanie she made me laugh.

Overall this was such a great book, which I liked more than the first. Brenda Rothert has done it again, ‘Now and Again’ was an entertaining sexy steamy read that I had to read in one sitting. I loved the little angst that it had, the mystery, the romance, the banter and the dirty talk. I could feel the chemistry, the sexual tension, and the passion.

Like Now and Then there was no cliffhanger ending, but also no epilogue, but I didn’t mind it didn’t need it as I got my HEA, and discover that the third book and final book in the series Now and Forever is scheduled for release in January 2014. It’s about Emma and Layla, and I can tell you now I have my hand in the air waving as I’m looking forward to it, can’t wait!

Some of my favorite quotes

“You want to be the man who tames the untamable. We’re too much alike. Ben Both dominant and controlling. I don’t want to lay in bed passively while you amaze me with your skills I want to be on top amazing you with mine.” ~ Layla

“I’m surprised how attracted I’m to your combative nature. But you’re under my skin now. I don’t want a compliant woman _ I want you” ~ Ben

Ben…he gets me. He knows how to handle me. I’ve never met a man who complements me but he does. When we’re together, I don’t feel like an aggressive bitch. I just feel like a woman who knows what she wants. And when he looks at me… I feel beautiful. In more than a tits and ass way” ~ Layla

“She got this façade for not caring, but I can tell that deep down she want me to chase her. And damned if I don’t want to catch her.” ~ Ben

"Layla. I love you, too. I do, I want to be with you. I want to share the ups and downs with you." ~ Ben

“What are you going to do tonight? I’d tie him up and ride him till dawn”~ Melanie

"Neither one of us is perfect, but is it possible we're perfect together, Cupcake?”~ Ben

“LOVE is a leap of faith…It’s not always easy or smooth or comfortable. Only you know…enough to risk it.” – NOW AND AGAIN

Now and Then is the first novel in the Now series and we are introduce to Emma Carson growing up in the shadows of her older beautiful and popular sister, Layla Carson. Emma also had a crush on her neighbor across the street, Cole Marlowe, since he moved in the neighborhood when she was a little girl. Cole is handsome, popular, and closer to her sister’s age, so she always found herself in the shadows looking at Cole from afar, until 12 years later they run into each other at a coffee shop. Emma is has changed since her adolescence years, leaving to attend art school in Paris and returning as a graphic designer and artist. After Cole an attorney now really saw Emma for the first time, he can not stop thinking about her and is determine to learn more about her. Emma also thought she had forgotten about Cole, but it seems her heart has not forgotten the love she had for him 12 years ago. Unfortunately, his task was not going to be easy because Layla had told Emma she was determined to have him as her future husband. Unravel the twists and turns of a siblings love for the same man and uncover the challenges he has to faces between the two to fight for his love too.

Now and Again is the second novel in the Now series is about Layla Carson story about finding love and the novel begins immediately were we left on in the first book in the series, Now and Then. Layla is a cooperate lawyer and decides she is making a change her life because sex has been making a little messy, until she meets Ben Montrose. Layla and Ben have many things in common, like independence, hot & beautiful, stubborn, determination, and dominating. The chemistry is undeniable, so they arrange to be exclusive with each other for four weeks, but what they did not plan for was what journey their feelings were going to take them after the four weeks.

Author Brenda Rothert romance novels, Now and Then and Now and Again, has done an AMAZING job writing a BEAUTIFUL LOVE STORY that will capture your attention immediately and find yourself unable to put the book down. You will also experience a roller coaster of emotions from feeling SCARED, SADNESS, SUSPENSEFUL, SHOCKED, LOVE, SALACIOUS, and TENDERNESS.

Brenda Rothert will not have us to waiting too long to find out what will happen next, because she is currently writing the third book in the series, Now and Forever, the story of Emma Carson & Cole Marlowe and Layla Carson & Ben Montrose.

I rate Brenda Rothert’s novel in the Now series, Now and Then and Now and Again – 5 AMAZING STARS!

I loved book 1 in the Now series so much that I had to go immediately to Amazon and 1-click the second book! I'm a sucker for a soldier. I've said this a lot lately. I've been writing three of them over the course of the last year and I keep coming across stories with soldiers in them that I can't put down. So it's no surprise that I loved Ben when he's a former Marine. Then he's a detective, protective of his twin sister and of Layla (who, let's face it, could use a guy like him in her life to keep the jerks away, at the very least), willing to lend a hand, is good with a hammer, is a beast of a man at 6'5" and 240lbs, talks dirty, has tattoos, rides a motorcycle, likes to hike...need I go on? Because damn, I think maybe Brenda Rothert was inside my head while she wrote him and plucked all these traits I keep writing into my male leads. Didn't you know when women write romance stories they're writing out their fantasies to some extent? Uh huh.

Layla is the older sister of Emma from book 1. She's pretty peeved at the end of that story because her sister has effectively stolen the guy she'd had her sights set upon (though, said guy, Cole, wasn't interested in her). She and Emma have made a little truce, but the situation still smarts for Layla, and being around the happy couple is nauseating at best, painful at worst. She's sworn off men, particularly casual relationships (which for her, mean casual sex), because she had a bad experience on New Year's Eve, just a couple weeks after the Cole-and-Emma bomb was dropped. The majority of the story picks up the following summer.

On a task for the pro bono work she does with an agency that advocates for the mentally ill, Layla meets Chicago PD Sergeant Ben Montrose. The instant chemistry between them isn't anything Layla wants to entertain. She's holding out for the real deal this time around, and she's pretty sure Ben isn't the kind of guy to settle down. After a couple meetings, the two of them end up playing a little game of who's in control here, and eventually, neither one is sure if it's just for fun or getting far deeper than they had ever expected.

Overall, a fantastic read. It was quick and enjoyable and everything a great story wants to be. I'm excited to find a fellow author who likes to write in the frank tone of NA, but with a more mature set of life-changing experiences than that of the post-high school/college/immediately post-college characters typical of that genre. Eagerly anticipating book 3! And now I want to read more of her work! Dystopia? I'm there!

The sexual frustration was through the roof with this one!!!

Layla is a hoe. She knows that and everyone else does too. But she gets tired of doing the one night thing, so she tries to change it, going without satisfying her libido for 6 months!! For a sex-a-holic that is darn hard.

Ben, sexy cop with a body full of muscles; he is controlling and also a man whore. Not one for long term relationships he goes through women like dirty underwear. When he meets Layla, strong, very opinionated hard headed, controlling female attorney, he has to have her; but he met her after her promise of no more casual sex!

The pace is non stop, one thing after another. The sexual tension was crazy!! And it was like that throughout the story!!! The story flowed well, the editing was awesome. The plot was great, the twists and turns were unexpected. But what made the story were the characters, they were both great. Layla was confident and I realized that her quick comments and the way she was, was because she wanted to shield her heart. Toward the end, I kind of understood why she was the way she was and I was cheering her on to be happy with Ben. Ben was a man’s man, he was controlling and what was his was his and no one could touch! He had no problem in telling a woman what he wanted from her in the bedroom!! And I loved the fact that he loved to whisper in her ear a lot of dirty dirty things. Ahhh, that was great!!!

I will be waiting for the next one that will be out next year in January. I can’t wait to see what is in store for the two sisters!

I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion and review.

There is the Layla I saw lurking under all that bitchiness! All those little glimpses of kindness and goodness have finally come out into the light. She's growing up! Now if Lane can only grow up too, her life would be perfect.

Ben is the best partner for this independent woman. That he's self-assured and has an iron will apart from being a natural alpha male only makes him that much better. Totally admire that control! He knows that sexy isn't only being physical but pushes Layla into exploring the emotional and mental sides more. The man lives the meaning of the word intimacy.

Then there's the dynamics between these two and the lovebirds, Emma and Cole. Layla and Ben are competing who can hold out longest in their almost platonic friendship while Emma and Cole are entering a deeper phase in their relationship. I totally expected the pissing contest between the two males and was actually happy to see Cole acting the way he did. He cares for Emma enough to be wary of Ben (I don't blame him because of what Layla put them both through) and express the anger and insecurity that's building up inside him. I like that he's not portrayed as a stereotypical perfect guy, because he's not. His ugly emotional warts are a perfect foil to Emma's pure sweetness.

Layla deserves a life far away from what she's perceived to be because she's a lot more than what people (and she herself) think. I can't stand most of her old friends; they just pull her down and treat her like a slut, which, unfortunately, she also believes she is. I'm glad that her new friends like Melanie and Ben show her she is capable of a whole lot more than one-night stands and being used. She develops into a beautiful woman without being saccharine-sweet and finally realizes that she doesn't have to be Emma's clone to get her guy.

Finally the two sisters are living the life they deserve. I have high hopes for everything developing well in Book 3. Can't wait!

AUDIOBOOK REVIEW

I’m a huge fan of dual narrator audiobooks, so Now and Again by Brenda Rothert was pretty much perfect for me! Not only are Kirsten Leigh and Chris Ruen incredible to listen to, the actual story of Layla and Ben is sweet, sexy, and romantic. I love a good book with a hot man in uniform, and Ben is as hot as you could get. He and Layla are just perfect together – I highly enjoyed Now and Again!

I went into this audiobook without having read the first book, Now and Then, but thankfully I wasn’t lost at all. Now and Again is very firmly Layla and Ben’s story, though the other characters in the series make their appearances too. Layla is a 26-year-old lawyer who has managed to change her stance on casual sex. She’s no longer looking for hookups, but rather focusing on herself and her career. But all her plans seem to fall away when, for a case, she meets Marine-turned-police-investigator Ben Montrose. The two of them share some crazy-hot chemistry from the second they meet, but while Layla is hesitant to start anything between them, Ben is determined make Layla see that their chemistry is something worth exploring.

Layla and Ben are wonderful characters, both strong, independent, and very, very stubborn. It was so much fun listening to their story! Kirsten Leigh and Chris Ruen both did a fantastic job at depicting these two characters. Their narrations were great to listen to and it was easy to distinguish the dialogue between different characters. As far as audiobooks go, this one is another winner, and I would definitely listen to the audiobooks of the rest of the series!

Brenda Rothert has written an amazing series; The Now Series! Book 3, Now and Forever will be released shortly. I enjoyed both of these books so much, I can't wait to read the final book. Brenda Rothert was able to write an incredible story about two sisters, who couldn't be any different from each other, find the one who completes them. Although no happily ever after is complete without some drama, which Brenda writes very well. All the characters from both books pull towards you, you really start to care for them. I can't wait to read the final ending to all characters.

Now and Again (Book 2)
This book is about the older Carson sister, Layla. Layla is always getting everything she wants, she is beautiful and all the guys like to show her just how beautiful she is. Layla loves the attention and sometimes goes a little too far with her men, but if still looking for that one guy to marry so she can mark it off of her to do list. Layla decides to reinvent herself after she hit rock bottom with some random guy. Love finds you when you aren't looking, and these words rang true for Layla. She met Ben Montrose while working on a case for the law firm she works for. Little did she know Ben wanted to get to know her just as much as she wanted to get to know him. The thing was they are both hanging on to the past and get tangled up in it, so they end at a stand still. The only question is will either one be able to see they are pushing each other away when the pull between them is so strong. They also have the problem of both of them wanting to be in control, can they find common ground. I really didn't like Layla's character in Now and Then, but after reading Now and Again I really want her to find her happy ending. You really see a side to Layla that was absent in Now and Then.

I love Layla. A lot. As in I want to have little Layla babies. She made an incredible turn around- as in actually grew up! She meets someone that challenges her, makes her feel something! And it doesn’t hurt that he is in a 6’5″ gorgeous package.

Layla in Now and Then was the Mean Girl you wanted to hate, but there had to be something redeeming about her when you read of the amazing relationship she had with her sister. It was buried deep. REAL deep. And at the end of the first book I couldn’t stand her. She was selfish and just plain terrible to them. Now it is 7 months later, she is still mean. Selfish. But she has made changes. No more random hook ups. In fact no sex at all. She has thrown herself into work, and into volunteering. She is trying to have a relationship again with her sister. She has made a quiet life for herself and it works.

Ben is an ex- Marine, now detective for CPD. When he meets Layla he is instantly attracted to her, but wants nothing serious. Through lots of flirty banter they start to get to know each other. And admit they want to try- but no real strings or expectations.

There are a few twists and turns- stalker anyone? And who knew Cole could be such an ass??

I enjoyed the growth and maturity and really the smack of reality in how the world turns that Layla experienced. The changes in her character were gradual and realistic. Ben also made my heart melt. He feels so much for Layla but lets his fear and anger almost ruin everything. His relationship with his sister and terrible childhood make him real. He is dedicated to his remaining family and work. He is so protective of Layla. Love him too!

This was a fun and sexy read, and it had me falling in love with Layla–which I was sure I would never do. I really enjoy this series and cannot wait for the next and final book Now and Forever.

Holy freaking amaze-balls!!!!

There is not a single thing that I could pick from this book to say I don't like because I loved it all. The jealousy, bitterness, sneaking, desire, love, text, conversations, hot and steamy moments and angst. I freaking love it all.

How many people get to fall in,love with their hs crush when they were total, opposites, when the boy never acknowledged your existence and when your sister wants him?? Well one I know and that's Emma.

Cole, oh have mercy!! That man is a walking sex bomb ready to detonate. He had me twisted like a freaking pretzel. He was sweet, caring, unpredictable and a total caveman, which I absolutely love. The man had me swooning over and over again. I can't get enough of him.

After 10 years their paths finally cross unexpectedly and the girl who once was invisible is the one who he can't stop thinking about. Cole is having some trouble getting Emma out of his head. He doesn't do relationships, he stays too busy at his job being a lawyer but Emma Carson is driving him mad. He wants and needs to see her.

Emma has had a crush on Carson for years but always was unnoticed because of her sister Layla, who she thought had it all and after their unexpected run in, she is back to thinking of him again. Several dates per his request has her in fear of falling and having her heart broken. But she sure enjoys their time together.

Cole wants ebay one to know of their relationship but Emma needs it to remain secret for fear of her family. Afraid they would be mad because they always had her sister pegged to be with Cole and she fears her sisters reaction.

Let the craziness begin. It was so awesome I think I could to a cart wheel if I knew I wouldn't pull something so instead I just squeal in utter delight.

I'm sure Layla's story will be good but I want more of Cole and Emma. PLEASE!!!! I'm not done with them yet.

I Received An ARC Of This Book In Exchange For My Honest Review.

This is the second book in the "Now" Series and it's Layla's story. I'm a big fan of Emma and Cole's from the first book in the series but Layla and Ben blew them away. I fell in love with these two and couldn't put their story down.

Layla is harsh you could even say mean. She has spunk and can be known for running her mouth. She's easy and enjoys sex and has slept with lots of different men. That all changed seven months ago after waking up next to some lawyer and doing the walk of shame. Now Layla is starting to be noticed by the partners at the law firm she works at.

While working a case she meets Chicago Investigator Ben Montrose. Ben is an ex marine and a true Alpha male. It doesn't take long to wrap up the case but that isn't the end for them. Layla encounters Ben again when a mysterious one sentence letter shows up at her house sending her to the police station in a fit of concern.

Ben and Layla are attracted to one another. They enter into a four week deal that you know isn't gonna work out. They are both demanding, bossy, and crude. On these two people it's HOT and STEAMY.

I think one of my favorite things about this book is the way that they don't fall right into bed with one another. Don't get me wrong just because they don't have sex at the beginning doesn't mean they don't mess around cause believe me they do and those scenes are yummy.

Brenda Rothert's second book floored me. I look forward to the release of the third and final book in this trilogy. I can't wait for more Layla and Ben. I hope that the conclusion of the series also sees Emma and Layla's relationship restored.

Okay so here it goes and I know some are going to be like WTF????????? because believe it or not so did I after reading this book but holy eff what in the hell is wrong with Emma???????? Man we first get to meet Layla in Now and Then and I LOVED LOVED LOVED that book because it was about Emma and Cole and Emma is Layla's younger sister. So we got to see how the sisters were and they fought and then had a rocky relationship because let's face it Layla is a stone cold biatch which I loved. I was glad when Emma and Cole got together finally because they were meant for each other but then in Now and Again Emma and Cole were being total a-holes to Layla.

Layla is a strong, fierce woman who takes no shit from anyone. She is a high powered attorney and knows how to hold her own. So when she is working on a case and she meets the investigator Ben sparks fly but Layla is determined she is over the one night stands and the casual hookups because she is looking for more. She needs more because all those crazy sex hook ups were going no where and no where fast. But Ben he ignites something in her and she tries to fight it but Ben is an ALPH-MALE and he is not taking no for an answer.

They make a deal to date and see how things go but the longer they date and the more they open up to one another the closer they get to one another and decide they have to be together. But what happens when you have a past that is bad and quite frankly not lady like? What happens when you have had to have a heart of steel because people try and take your kindness for weakness? Well this is Ben and Layla's story and if you want answers to those questions you will have to read it to find out!

I really appreciate Rothert’s writing style. She doesn’t try to fool her readers with fancy words and eloquent phrasing. She lets her brilliant story captivate her audience. And her story is brilliant. It’s a realistic, down to earth romance with characters that complement each other, while at the same time standing in stark contrast with one another. Rothert had me on the verge of tears more than once with this one.

In this instalment in her ‘Now’ series Rothert picks up one of the characters that we met briefly and continued to develop her into a brilliant main character. She casts her opposite a strong, alpha male that you can’t help but love. I appreciate how these two characters aren’t perfect yet are individuals who try their best to be the best version of themselves that they can be. The supporting cast that we see in this novel serves to highlight certain aspects of the story as well as to provide deeper detail into the relationship between these two phenomenal leads.

One thing that I really love about this novel is the fact that you can read it as a standalone novel or as something that flows seamlessly from the previous novel. Rothert has created a remarkable, realistic world for readers to immerse themselves in. I definitely recommend it to one and all.

Please note that I received this novel free of charge from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Now and Again is book come to live vicariously through your middle school diary of sorts. The story is written in post past and present tense, hence the title Now and Then.
I very much enjoy the few books out of the market right how that do this style of writing, and also add in both main characters thoughts throughout.
The way Cole and Emma reconnected together was just perfect. I can see that as a real situation, other than blind on-line-dating. As the story progresses and we learn that Emma's ?Bratty? sister always gets what she wants and she is going to get Cole.

The wonderfully light and fun read made me pissed and irritated. I was completely irritated with every single one of them, except
Cole. Shocker.....I know.

Movin' on. Without giving the plot away, I will say that things became more tense between people/families, cafe's ect. Whoa, a bad time was had by all during this transition period.
My most favorite line/most connected with the book line would be: I didn't get and Manolos, I got this owl at a trade show. "Designer shoes are mass produced, superficial and not all that special But this..."he held up the art deco owl, "is unique, beautiful and alluring.

I am loving this author's stories and can't wait to read more.

I really wasn't sure about Layla after reading the first book in this series, and whilst I have certainly warmed to her character, I'm still not 100% certain she has redeemed herself and I know I'm in the minority of reviewers in that regard. It got a little old the way she kept referring to herself as a whore and that she wasn't worthy of a man taking her seriously in a relationship. Ben was fabulous and certainly swoon worthy but I didn't quite believe his reasons for not being 'relationship' material. I guess because it felt like that was thrown in at the end and we didn't get a lot of backstory to back it up. Sorry for sounding vague in my review but I don't want to give away any spoilers.

My review might sound a little negative but its not meant to be that way at all. I really enjoyed the second book in this series, and I'm extremely excited for book 3 because I really want to see Layla and Ben, and also Emma and Cole grow in their relationships. I was excited because the third book was due for release this month but when I went looking to pre-order I noticed the publication has been delayed by a few months. I am sure it will be worth the wait.

Highly recommend this series by Brenda Rothert.

Once again.... I was HOOKED! I read this in one sitting and didn't even realise its past 3 am!! Something about the way the author writing that just makes you want to read on no matter where the story goes.

I fall for Layla more than em in the first book and her story just don't disappoint either. She had inner strength despite her insecurities and she's not afraid to say what she wants to say. We also had a soft side about her that care about others in a genuine way even if it doesn't appear that way. The way she came straight for em and doing pro bono work in book one or when she offered to stay at home with her parents when her mom was waiting for her test result should have been an indication of just how unselfish Layla really is. And we see more of that side of her in book 2. I love it.

And Im glad that Cole didnt give in to her because she truly deserve Ben. I like it that Ben is full of confidence and get her when no one .. Not even her sister or high school friends gets her.

And I love that despite everything they both let each other in.

Can't wait for more of them I'm book 3 and hopefully more of them instead of Em and Cole.
