If Hollywood had decided to make a Saturday morning show or Disney Channel serial based on the Spy Kids movies, the episodes would likely be in the style of Freeze-Frame. Exciting and full of action, it is also forgettable and mindless. Young fans of the movie will surely enjoy this, but even older Spy Kids lovers who watch shows such as Kickin' It, VICTORiOUS, or Austin and Ally will likely find it to be fun reading.
Seeing as this book uses characters and settings from a popular family-friendly movie series, students can relate easily to this book and understand the underlying story of who is who and what is happening. Also, students are intrigued by spies and secretive, adventurous events because of the thrill, which this book provides.
An intriguing Spy Kids tale with all the usual elements: over-the-top gadgetry, over-the-top action, a criminal mastermind, sibling rivalry, and “fitting-in” conflicts, even though some parts are inexplicable, like Juni’s getting frozen by the boarders.
I loved these books as a kid. I am only missing one book from the series. These really are great adventurous books in my opinion for kids about the age of 10. It is got lots of action, not to mention just about the most coolest spy gear you have ever heard of.
