This is the most beautiful devotional book I have ever found. Each page is on slick paper which has been turned into an entire photograph with the bible verse or devotional printed on it. I usually pass my devotional books on to others (unless there is a lot of underlining in it), but this one I will keep just because it is so beautiful. I also liked the fact that the bible verses were all from King James. I haven't read King James for many years, but it was a nice memory to read it once again. I am including some pictures from a few pages so you can see for yourself what a lovely book this is.
Some are inspirational, but at times when the author forgets we are individuals and have been blessed with different gifts, it can be condescending. As the Director of Religious Education at my church, I will be hesitant about to whom I recommend this book, if anyone. Certainly, not for new believers nor anyone who may read the Bible but place less emphasis on things sick as a tidy housd and hosting parties/gatherings.
I did expect more Bible Verses, but why memorize them? A Verse out of context can be easily misunderstood....
There were some insights that were helpful in this book. However, this book seems like it would only relate to women who have children, or even those who stay at home with their families. It would have been nice to see more a plethora of lived experiences from multiple perspectives instead of one particular viewpoint that seems highly particular to one cultural and generational norm.
I picked up this little booklet and a similar one for my husband that is written by Elizabeth George’s husband Jim, mine being inspirations for women while his is insights for men. I was unaware of the fact her husband is also an author, so thought this little duo would be good for us to go through each day before the day gets going and life interrupts. Each reading is short yet powerful. They truly are one-minute reads (or maybe two to three depending on how fast you read). Regardless of how long it takes you to read, the entries are full of relevant information that the reader can relate to and learn from. I have yet to find an entry that does not speak to me in some way. I have found myself agreeing with author Elizabeth George (who, by the way, happens to be one of my favorite Christian authors) and feel that each day’s message is just as powerful as the previous ones. I love the fact that it is a super quick read because some days I simply do not have the time for a lengthy devotional time. On days like that I can still glean some new insight or experience new inspiration for my day. If you are short on time, but want a quality devotion, give this little booklet a try.
Elizabeth George is a wise woman who loves God. I find her wisdom invaluable and want to read all of her books. One-minute inspirations for women may only be one minute long, but they pack a punch. There is a lot of wisdom in each devotion. I like to underline things in devotions like this that I think are important and resonate with me. This small devotional is full of underlined sections. Each devotion is accomapanied by a prayer to finish with. I believe this will be a blessing to all women who read it that are seeking a deeper relationship with God. In my opinion, Elizabeth George is a true Titus 2 woman, sharing her wisdom with us younger women, teaching us how God desires us to act. I highly recommend this one. Being so short, there is no excuse not to read it. Everyone can spare one minute a day.
Reasonable advice-usual Christian life stuff like 'pray for your children', 'serve your parents and in-laws', 'be a faithful woman', 'dress modestly.' At the end of each page (it's a slim book and a small book, so the advice part is only 150 words each) there is a suggested prayer in italics you can pray. It's all reasonable except there is no scripture. The advice is not based on scripture, or if it is, it is not listed, not even the address. There are a few sprinkles of references to scripture within the advice paragraph, but no foundational verse to kick it off.
Most of the advice seems to come from her life experience as a Christian woman, and she uses personal anecdotes to cement her point. Really, you could get as much from this booklet as you do reading Dear Abby or Erma Bombeck. The advice itself is fine, just be aware it doesn't have a stated Bible basis.
Written by a woman but some of the advice seemed a little dated. I didn’t respond favorably to how important cleaning your house is or how you don’t want to embarrass your husband (or God) by how you dress. That was a little weird. Some of the advice was good, though. Often I feel like I could grow more in my faith if I had more physical spiritual presence in my life. I’m currently between churches and struggling with what my future should be. Books are great, but I don’t always sense the right tone or intent in the words. I’d like to hear someone speak them and feel their passion and conviction. Maybe that just got lost in a book like this. A perfectly fine book that I think was meant to be a comfort and source of support, so I appreciate that about it.
Mine didn't have the pretty pictures as shown in another review, and the tidbits shared were quite tedious to read- though I wasn't the intended audience...so that probably didn't help to be honest.
I didn't notice any typos, but either way I won't be reading again. Not a good read for someone who won't likely have kids or a husband (not a lesbian or anything, but it's like there are no good single straight men my age- so I have no faith in trying).
Elizabeth George shares nuggets of God's wisdom on topics such as family, friends, work, managing one's finances/marriage/children, and how women can follow God in all areas of their lives. Perfect for on-the-go reading. Its small size fits perfectly into a purse or backpack to take with you as well.
This is a great little book with short daily readings that will encourage you to put your faith in action by making small changes. It is often the small things done in faithful obedience that will make the difference in how we live life in service to God and others.
Loved the compact size. Read an inspiration anywhere you are waiting. Like having a thought for the day. I do prefer when scriptures are given, the same source be used. I would gift this with a Bible. Every scripture should be checked.
I added this devotional book to one I was already reading. The daily inspiration caused me to really consider the position of my heart and mind. I especially enjoyed the prayers at the end of each day.
Got a minute? Be blessed with this golden gem from Elizabeth George! "Life can deliver some touch blows, but God's marvelous grace enables us to go from strength to strength through all the trials." Oh, how I need to sit in that truth for a while. How about you?
Short and sweet devotionals but very centered towards wives/mothers which did not apply to me. Also did not have much actual scripture in it. Was expecting to see more real verses throughout. But a very nice way to start your morning/end your evening!
I liked this book a lot because, even though the lessons were short (hence the title), they held significant meaning that was supported by the Word of God.
