Don’t Miss These Box Sets from Douglas Clegg:
Bad Places (Three Full-Length Novels of Horror) Coming of Age (Three Dark Short Novels) Criminally Insane (Books 1-3) Dark Rooms (Three Full-Length Novels of Horror) Halloween Chillers (Three Book Box Set) Lights Out (3 Collections in 1) Harrow: Three Novels The Vampyricon (The Complete Trilogy)
These books were every bit as excellent as I expected them to be. Douglas Clegg is a masterful writer. I got a kick out of noticing each homage he paid to so many other great books and great writers in the horror genre: Frost 'Crane;' The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson, for example.
Each book stands alone, but they also build on each other. It was a gift to have all three in one tome. There's another volume as well as two prequels that complete the set, however, so I'm off to find them and continue with the story of this terrifying, living home to the sacred and profane.
Sad, really, the potential for Harrow House to be a great series is missed. The author does a better than average job of developing characters, and is good/okay in scene settings; but falls short in the plot. My takeaway was that even the author doesn’t know what’s at Harrow House. His descriptions jump around from story to story and left me confused. Because the plot is so muddled, I won’t read anymore of it; nor can I recommend it to others.
