Is Your Family Ready For A Disaster? Can I ask you a few questions? If a severe thunderstorm left you without power for several days and your drinking water was contaminated because of heavy flooding would you be able to survive? What if you had to move your family to your roof due to rising floodwaters? Would you be able to last until help arrived? Be Prepared! Sadly, most people aren't prepared for any type of disaster. This book will change that by teaching you what you need to have ready-to-go in a Bug Out Bag to keep you and your loved ones alive for seventy-two hours until help arrives. Bug Out Bag Contents The problem I found with current Bug Out Bag books is the contents sugested are not needed or are outdated. For instance, some will tell you to have change available so you can use a pay phone. When is the last time you even saw a pay phone? Others will advise jamming a bag full of stuff like snares, axes and other items that really belong in a survival kit, not a Bug Out Bag... A bug-out bag is a portable kit that contains the items one would require to survive for seventy-two hours when evacuating from a disaster. It is also known as a 72-hour kit, a grab bag, a battle box, and other popular names include "Personal Emergency Relocation Kits" (PERKs) GO Bag and GOOD (Get Out Of Dodge) bag. The focus is on evacuation, rather than long-term survival, distinguishing the bug-out bag from a survival kit, a boating or aviation emergency kit, or a fixed-site disaster supplies kit. - Wikipedia This book is not a survival book; it is a book that show's you EXACTLY what you need to have in your bag to wait it out until help comes. The Right Stuff You see the key to a functional Bug Out Bag is having the right items while keeping the bag manageable. After all, if your bag weighs 60 pounds what are the odds you will be able to grab it and take shelter in an emergency? Bug Out Bag contains the essential items necessary to sustain life but as a bonus I also include Nice To Have items if you want to enhance your bag's contents and don't mind the extra bulk. Don't get caught like I did years ago when vandals sawed through power lines causing my family to be without electricity and water for two days. Buy this book and prepare yourself today!
this was a great read ! I enjoy the lists due to they are adaptable to wherever you are . ie~ in the city, live where back roads are most common, ect. Mr. Bennett gives "food for thought" as well as practical ideas to stay alive in common emergency situations. he also suggests good ~add to/ take away~ items to consider for your personal b.o.b. I highly recommend this book !
A good overview of what to consider, and why a bug out bag is different than a survival kit. Idea For first timers and people looking go make car emergency kit.
Glad to read a composite list of things needed and nice to have in a bug out bag. Most includes things that is for longer term situations. It is only for the immediate beginning. Thank you
A decent guide for a BOB. The book is explained well, uses simple language, and is not worded as a doomsday manual. It's a good guide for every reader.
Every home should have a bug-out bag that will keep the occupants sheltered, warm, fed and hydrated in the event that they have to leave their home suddenly. Scenarios for times that you might need a bug-out bag (also called a 72-hour bag, since it should have at least 3 days of supplies in it) are: a house fire, a chemical spill or forest fire that requires neighborhood evacuation, a damaging earthquake, or an unplanned trip to the hospital with a sick or injured relative. Having a bug-out bag with you if your car break down on a deserted stretch of highway during a snowstorm could save your life. The idea is to have everything you need, assembled and ready to grab and go without delay.
This book covers the basics of what to buy or gather from items already your home, and how to pack it. It covers the importance of having everything protected in waterproof ziplock bags, and addresses important issues such as lighting, drinking water, communications, food that stores well, first aid and Rx medications, clothing, shelter, tools, copies of important documents, and hygiene.
This book is a good place to start if you've never considered what you would do in an emergency, or haven't camped or hiked enough to know what you would need to survive. Depending on police and rescue services is a luxury you might not have if something catastrophic happens and thousands of people are also calling 911. Read this book, then get busy putting your own bug-out bag together. Hopefully you'll never need it, but you'll be glad you have it if you ever do.
He made the advice very simple, with good explanations. I also love that he stressed this was for emergencies, such as bad weather, earthquake, etc. I can see using his tips for the bags I keep in the vehicals.
Whether you've given this topic a lot of thought or just now looking into it, this is a very valuable book to use as a checklist. Strongly recommend this book. Good price, Great information!
