Setting: Amphibian's natural habitat

Grade/Interest Level: Upper Elementary
Reading Level: 3rd Grade
Genre: Information Book

Summary:

The World of Frogs and Toads, written by Jane Dallinge and Sylvia A. Johnson, is an information book giving many facts about these amphibians. This book has a lot of information about frogs and toads and includes pictures and diagrams to show evidence of what is being told as well as a glossary in the back. A large component of this book explains the life cycle of frogs and toads, putting a large emphasis on how the eggs evolve specifically over time. Children and adults probably know that frogs and toads croak, but it was interesting to learn that this is done to attract females, which begins the reproduction process. Additionally, this book also gives information on the habitats that frogs and toads live in. Other facts this book gives is explanations of frog and toads' unique features; such as their webbed feet and long tongues.

Classroom Use:

This book would be effective in conjunction with a science lesson. The science lesson could obviously be about frogs and toads, but there are other ways to use this book in science. Some other ideas to use this book in science could be discussing habitats, features of animals/amphibians, life cycles, and much more.
