HONORABLE REVENGE...(Authors Cut, Re-edited and formatted 11-13)
When John Locke sees danger screaming down on him like a banshee from hell: He not only grabs on and comes out shooting; he’s caught on an adrenaline ride that doesn’t stop until he is the last man standing. Locke’s world is filled with cruel and ruthless men that will kill and steal just for the rush it brings them: Dark places that normal people never go unless they are dragged in screaming, and never come out. Drug Cartel’s, that mutilate, then fast-freeze their competitors; secret Chinese Triads that think crime and business are one in the same, and murder is used to close a deal. Street Mutts caught unaware of the treachery going down around them, only to be cut down in the running gun battle that surrounds them.
John Locke spends his days in L.A., working the courthouse hallways and holding-cells, trying to catch a few clients that need to lawyer-up. His ten years inside a bottle left him with a marriage he vaguely remembers, a promising legal career in the sewer, and the fear that life is passing him by. He’s barely back among the human race, living in a three room apartment over a Chinese Take-out, chasing bottom-feeder cases to keep him in the legal game, and brings in a few extra bucks doing part-time work as a sleuth and muscle for a bail bond friend. He makes his rent, pays his bills and keeps looking for a way out.
When John’s way out comes, it’s from a darkened window overlooking the alley that runs behind his apartment. Locke witnesses a murder that sucks him into black evil places where a man’s soul is sold for a kilo of cocaine. He’s caught in a diabolical criminal plot by the Chinese Triads to corner the world’s diamond market, and trips up a double cross that brings down a billion dollar Mexican drug cartel. To survive, he makes a harrowing escape in the night piling up dead men, splashing blood trails through the streets of China Town and back alleys of L.A.’s underbelly. When the cordite stink from the gunfire clears, John walks away with a lot more than a brand on his back and a bullet in his side: He’s found that honor and revenge are the same; enemies in life, brothers in death.

John Locke is a lawyer. Not that he does any in the story, but you gotta have a job, right? He lives in The Grid, a ghetto which is overseen by Trey Big, a bad guy who really does care about his people. Locke lives in an apartment by Uncle Fats, owner of a Chinese restaurant. Fat's son is head of the Chinese triad in the States. Unlikely alliances. The real bad guys are the Mexican drug cartel. John witnesses a murder in the alley outside his apartment. The body, and the case it was carrying is hastily thrown inside a dumpster. Locke retrieves the case and immediately knows he is in big trouble when he sees what is in it, cash and diamonds! It is Trey Big's business to now what is going on in the grid and the Chinese mob isn't dumb either and all roads quickly lead back to John. This is cartel money and cartel diamonds, all a part of something much bigger. This is where the alliance comes in and it is all action all the time!

I wasn't sure what to expect when I started reading Honorable Revenge. I first thought it would make a pretty good 'airplane book' but, I have to say, that I ended up really enjoying it. Its the story of ex-Marine and occasional California attorney John Locke and his fight against one of the Mexican drug cartels. It is a suspenseful and violent action book but, it also has its characters speaking some pretty funny quips along the way. It's hard to put down once you start reading. The action is non-stop - But, there are also some tender love scenes between Locke and his girlfriend. There are a number of very colorful characters that add to the enjoyment - some are good guys and some are bad guys but it all seems to work out in the end.

I stumbled on Mike Pettit's character, John Locke, when I was searching for more books in the Donovan Creed series by author, John Locke.

Investigator/attorney, John Locke, is just a normal guy; so he says, but he manages to inspire murder and mayhem in his enemies. Filled with international intrique, Pettit's characters are real, his plot lines are plausable, in a fun read from beginning to end.

I have read: Honorable Revenge, The Body Broker, Little Tokyo, The Nine Monkeys, Jungle Rules, and am now reading Dirty Money...all supsense thrillers staring the character, John Locke.

As a novelist, I appreciate good writing that gives me a, "Guilty Pleasure," break from my own work. Pettit's stories are chocolate for my mind!
