I have searched extensively for a Bible geared towards men and this is the best in my opinion. This Bible offers thoughtful footnotes that help the reader relate concepts to their own relationship with God. It guides men to an increased understanding of the text and invites them to explore the lessons behind the stories. There are several short essays scattered throughout that also offer food for thought. Several sections offer select quotes. This is truly my favorite personal Bible that I own and I own several bibles.

Largest book read to date. The more I kept reading and spacing things out, plus complimenting with a couple of reference books - the more the main concepts and themes resonated.

[Short from Book] The Bible is a large book that covers everything from the beginning of the cosmos to the final scenes of heaven. It presents the drama of God’s love for humankind and his efforts to redeem them. But the men and women in the story don’t always cooperate.

[Short from BibleProject] The Bible story is all about the union of Heaven & Earth - how they were once fully united, and then driven apart - and how God is bringing them back together again. In the beginning, Heaven & Earth overlapped (Garden of Eden - a place where God & humanity dwelt together). But as humans, we wanted to do things a different way. We wanted God out and wanted to create a world apart from God. So, we have these two spaces now. [*] In the Biblical world you experience God’s presence by going to a temple - that is where Heaven & Earth overlap. There’s two types of temples described in the Bible. [a] One is a tabernacle, basically a tent that was built by Moses. [b] And the other was this massive building made by Solomon. We can now go and be with God again. But not so fast, because the temple also creates a problem. God’s space is full of His presence, goodness, justice, and beauty - but human’s space is full of sin, injustice, and ugliness. So, [*] how do these spaces overlap if they’re so different and in conflict with each other? This was resolved through animal sacrifice. What do animal sacrifices have to do with this? The idea is animal sacrifices somehow absorb the sin when the animal dies in your place - and it creates a clean space (so to speak) where you are now free to enter into the temple and be in God’s presence. In the New Testament - the Gospel of John, we hear this claim that God became human in Jesus and made His dwelling among us. The word “dwelling” literally means he set up a tabernacle among us. [*] What John is claiming here is that Jesus is a temple. He is now the place where Heaven & Earth overlap. What’s interesting about Jesus is that He isn’t saying Earth is a safe clean space. He’s running around hanging out with sinners, healing people of their sicknesses, and forgiving people of their sins. He’s basically creating little pockets of Heaven where people can be in God’s presence - but He’s doing it in the middle of the world of sin & death. And He keeps telling everyone that the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand. And Jesus even told His followers to pray regularly that God’s kingdom come & His will be done here on Earth just as it is in Heaven. [*] But lots of people are threatened by Jesus and they kill Him - which seems to spoil this whole plan to reunite Heaven & Earth. [But, we have to go back to a scene earlier in Jesus’ story where John the Baptist saw Jesus and said, “Behold this is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” So, Jesus isn’t just talked about as being a temple, He’s also talked about as being the temple sacrifice. So, the cross is now the place where Jesus absorbs sin to create a clean space that is not limited like animal sacrifices]. Jesus’ sacrifice has the power to keep spreading and reuniting more and more of Heaven and Earth. This is all really great but it leaves one big question in my mind, which is [*] what happens when upon death die? A few times in the New Testament we learn that Christians will be with Jesus in Heaven after they die - but that is not the focus of the Bible’s story. The focus is on how Heaven & Earth are being reunited through Jesus and will be completely brought together one day when He returns. [*] In the book of Revelation we get an image of the Garden of Eden - now in the form of a city, coming to end the age of sin and death by redeeming all of human history in a renewed creation - and God’s space and Human’s space completely overlap once again.

A lot of the side notes were fillers repeating the same message. This version was on sale, so I decided to give it a go.

This is an easy to read men's study bible. If you are male, an interested in reading and understanding what Christians want you to think and believe, this book is for you.

Pros: Descent price, easy to read bible.

Cons: Wants to make you think like a mindless automaton, if you're not intelligent you might take the word-per-word translation as fact.

Final Verdict: If you believe, or think you are dumb enough to believe creationism (i.e. the Earth is only six thousand years old) wholeheartedly without any doubts, you should be executed for you are no longer bringing the human race forward. Otherwise it is a great book to learn lessons from.

I got through 50 percent of my canonical reading plan with this bible, and the study notes that accompany each page are good, however the notes and the scripture (NLT) are geared towards grade schoolers.
I do appreciate the work and the time spent in this book.
I bought a new ESV Study Bible and so far it is awesome!! It is very similar to my Nelson Study Bible (NKJV), in that the notes are written with a little more thought.

A little long-winded and repetitive, but still pretty hilarious.
