The Drama Triangle

Rate this book
Many of us are on the Drama Triangle without even realising. We struggle to understand why people behave as they do, and why they choose dysfuntional, repetitive behaviours. We can't understand why some are habitually dependent, while others are exhaustingly self-sacrificing or unfairly unkind. If you want to improve your understanding of the Human race, the Drama Triangle will help.Once you understand three archetypal roles - the Victim, the Persecutor and the Rescuer, you can identify when you have been on the Drama Triangle in the past, if you are playing it now and who is inviting you to take up one of the roles in their Triangle.Essential reading for everyone, this book is easy to read and even easier to understand, providing a gentle introduction to this dynamic area of Transactional Analysis.

Short, concise and educational.

I wanted to learn about this concept because I can see the roles being played out so distinctly in my life. The book has showed me how my behavior enables certain victims (who also multitask as persecutors of others when convenient). I found ideas that will hopefully help me change my behavior.

I also realized that when I help too much I turn from rescuer (they're so helpless. I have to help them!) into a victim (there's no way out! I'm stuck! How could they do this to me?!) and then into a persecutor (feeling of entitlement to better friends). This whole cycle can be broken by knowing what I prioritize and assertively sticking to it. Yay for epiphanies.

Great Book!

Easy to read and understand. The examples and scenarios of each person on the drama triangle makes it real and help you spot it easily. I liked how the author showed you how to stay off the triangle or how to play. Choice. Love it. Will recommend to family and friends.

Interesting add-on to Berne’s Games theory.

Easily recommended if you read about Berne’s Games People Play.

It’s a quick read with good ideas about relationship dynamics. The author offers an interesting model for understanding where things can go awry. She provides a decent explanation of people’s motivations and how these can influence behaviour.

Ultimately - her stance is that “awareness” of the relational dynamic can help you navigate.

The lower star count stems from the fact that it’s positioned mostly in a personal perspective rather than as anything truly academically or empirically sound. It has value as thought provoking, but is largely untested and thus, ought to be taken with a grain of salt.

I’m happy I’ve read it.

Extremely clear and helpful

I am thankful to have found this resource. This short book gives a clear and precise explanation of the classic triangle pattern. The other books in her series have been helpful as well.

Saludos!

Brilliant. This book describes relationship dynamics that I see all around me, but have been hard pressed to fully grasp and deal with. I love short, inexpensive books that pack a lot of useful insight, and this is one of those.

Good short summary of the Drama Triangle

Good short summary of the Drama Triangle and worth the read. It is not detailed and very simplistic but achieves its purpose to inform the reader of victims, persecutors and rescuers.
