In this groundbreaking devotional book, Peter Scazzero introduces the ancient spiritual discipline of the Daily Office. The basic premise is We need to stop intentionally to be with God more than once a day so that "the practice of the presence of God" becomes a real possibility. This is a helpful series of 2 x daily meditations. Each morning / afternoon has a Bible reading, meditation, question and prayer.

The mediations are a mix of challenge, invitation and soul searching.

The author mines church history for quotes and provides a wide variety (sometimes too wide?) of spiritual nuggets.

I had given a brief review of this book on Amazon but wished to add a more complete account. Daily Office has on the front cover, “begin the journey” and it is an apt comment. My brief review said I appreciated the discipline of the book which is geared to help the reader think and contemplate one’s journey with God more than once a week or once a day. Based on the rule of St. Benedict, the 8 weeks of reading are divided into twice a day readings. The author states that it is a book to fit everyone regardless of race, religion, or personalities, and it does. He has given thoughtful attention to bringing the reader through a process of growing closer to God. It took me awhile to get into the rhythm of the book but I now treasure it. He has exposed me to many writers whose works he quotes. Though I am not a catholic, this is truly a book for everyone who wishes to grow closer to their God.

Great simple yet polished introduction to the Divine Office

Spirituality is not strictly found by reading, studying, memorizing the old and new testament if the bible. By incorporating the wisdom and reflections from the likes of the Desert Fathers, Thomas Merton, Richard Rohr, Henri Nouwen, Mother Theresa of Calcutta, we become exposed and enlightened by the rich almost endless store of additional resources to help you grow in your faith and spiritual direction.

After reading Emotionally Healthy Church, I decided to use the Daily Office as my devotional over the course of 8 weeks. It was a great devotional that challenged me and grew me in my faith.
