Ingenairii #7

Rescuing the Captive

Rate this book
In the seventh book of the Ingenairii Series, Alec has awoken in a strange land; he has no memories of his past or his powers, and no knowledge of the language in the Avonellene Empire. He knows his name and little more. He must learn to fend for himself and survive. His first day on land plunges him into the role of accidental felon, responsible for stealing an unimaginably rich treasure; with it in his posession, he must flee to save the treasure and himself from capture.

Along with the treasure comes a girl, a girl whose name sounds familiar to him, making him feel instantly protective of her, determined to use their new riches to make sure she can grow into happiness.

Their flight from Nordic Krimshelm takes them to the great city of Vincennes, where Alec hopes they can live anonymously, blending into the teeming crowds as they try to decide what they want to do in life.

Only Vincennes isn't big enough to hide a treasure as large as theirs, and political upheaval roils the city, and catches them up in its violence. Another flight, this time to the egalitarian mountain fortress of Black Crag, becomes their goal, but now they have another problem -- helping an overthrown Princess find allies and friends to fight a civil war against usurpers!

I found this one frustrating, but good. I really thought several decisions made by the Princess to be incredibly, unbelievably stupid. She was Wylie Coyote level dumb.
